And from one of our Florida Team Leaders, Susan Garrison, we have this challenge. If you have ever nursed a senior dog, you know what Susan is going through right now. Thank you Susan and we are praying for you and for little Spuds, your heart dog!

Subject: Have A Heart

From: scgmiata1@comcast.net

Money has been tight this month because for the last two and a half weeks I have taken my Spuds everyday to vet to get two injections because of a massive infection and he hasn't been eating much so we can't get pills down him.
But because so many have prayed for him, he is getting better and now has eaten for the pass three days.
So here my challenge;

"if you have a heart dog then save these 13 dogs have a chance to become someone's heart dog "Please donate $100.00 for any one and make your heart better.:

God bless you all for the prayers for Spuds,

Please issue a matching donation for $100.00 for those Bichons needing our help.

I’m issuing this challenge in honor of our Lucy, who recently went to the Rainbow Bridge. I have attached a picture of her from the 2012 Bichon Bash in Valparaiso. She’s the gray one. Obviously, wasn’t a Bichon but she was around other Bichons for so much of her life she really thought she was one.

Lucy was 18 when she left us so she lived a full life. We hope this matching donation will help enable another of God’s creatures to live their life as it was meant to be lived.

And from Dave and Leslie we have this challenge for $20.00. Thank you, you two!

DEAR ROBIN,
YOU MUST BE EXHAUSTED, BUT HAVE SEEN WHAT LENGTHS YOU WILL GO TO, SO THAT JUST ONE MORE PRECIOUS BICHON OR MIX, WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE SOMEONE'S LIFE SO MUCH MORE IN SO MANY WAYS AND THEY ASK NOTHING OF US. AS I TUCKED IN MY LUPINI, JETER AND LITTLE GIANA , I CRIED AFTER READING THIS AND FEEL SO SO SO VERY GRATEFUL I DO NOT HAVE TO SURRENDER THEM. THAT WOULD KILL ME. I CANNOT EVEN IMAGINE. SO MY 3 PRECIOUS FLUFFS OFFER A CHALLENGE OF $77.00 SO THAT ALL OF THE LOVING OWNERS OF BICHON'S WILL NEVER HAVE TO BE IN A POSITION TO HAVE TO SURRENDER THEIR BELOVED BICHON. MY HEART GOES OUT TO HER, AND I WISH I COULD HELP HER KEEP HER BEST FRIEND. SO MAYBE WE CAN ALL HELP TO DO THE NEXT BEST THING. GIVE HER SWEET BABY A CHANCE, AND LOVE FROM ANOTHER PERSON, SO HER SWEET BICHON CAN BE TUCKED IN EACH NIGHT AS I JUST DID WITH MINE , NEXT TO ME. I AM SO GRATEFUL TO YOUR UNENDING WORK, MAY GOD BLESS YOU ROBIN,
ANNE CATALDO >

Ok, this is last call. So many of you are either gone or heading out to enjoy the last burst of summer.

Have a wonderful and safe Labor Day Weekend!

All My Love, Robin

P.S. Below are pictures of four of the latest thirteen Bichons that need help and their stories.

From Sara Pace:

Hi Robin,
I have another bichon that needs rescue. Here is his pic. He was found as a stray in Indiana. He has been at Greenwood County Animal Control where he has been held for over a week to see if anyone claimed him. No one has. They need rescue to take him. They are very small and cannot hold animals long. They work alot with rescues. He is estimated at maybe 2 years old. He was extremely matted and they did shave him for us. He will need vaccines, neuter, HW, fecal test and 10 day quarantine.

When it rains it pours
Sara>

And this request came in today from one of the OKC shelters. This little one would be euthanized without us. It was an owner surrender so they know no one is going to come looking for him and they are full. That spells euthanasia. It is a fact of life in the shelters.

At the time that someone thought it was a good idea to have that one litter of puppies, they never imagined the day that because they had that one litter, one of the dogs descending from that one litter is about to be killed because there aren't enough good homes.

It is a fact of life. And it's a fact of death.

<Hi Robin,

From one of the OKC shelters.

I know this is a long shot but I figure it never hurts to ask. This guy was surrendered to the shelter yesterday, he’s very sweet. They said he’s a Poodle mix, they also said he’s 1 year old. He has the curly Poodle/Bichon like hair and he has his full tail. I was just wondering if you’d take a look and let me know what you thought. I know everyone is full and it’s hard to take mixes but I have to try. Thanks. >

And this one came in as an owner surrender request to take.

Where did you originally get this Bichon?: Pet store in Houston

Has this dog been Spayed or Neutered?: Yes
Can you tell us why this dogs needs to be rehomed?: I got him when he was a puppy. When he was 2 and a half my daughter begged to take him to college. She couldn't handle him and gave him away. To whom I dont know. Somehow 4 and a half years later he found his way back to my former house in Katy TX. Neighbors contacted me and friends drove him up to Lewisville. I was thrilled! Not only to have him but to see he had been well cared for since it was obvious he had very recently been groomed.
That's the way he should be cared for and I cant. 14 months ago I was in a very bad accident which has left me disabled, broke and unable to work. I am having to move next month and dogs are not allowed. I also can't afford to care for him properly even if I could bring him. He deserves so much better. I need to know he will be loved and cared for. The idea of taking him to the pound would break my heart.

Has this dog ever bitten?: No. Not even when my 10 month old grandson puts his fingers in his mouth!
Is this Bichon or Bichon Mix safe for the time being?: I will be forced to take him to a pound. Please help me to avoid this! >

And Our Arkansas Team Leader, Cheri Sisco sent this to us today as well. This makes four in just today. That means around $2000.00 in vet bills will be coming and not much is coming in because so many of you are away.

Robin, I got a call asking me if we could take this little girl in. Even though it is a humane society they do euthanize when they have to for temperament and health reasons. Because of her teeth they are considering her unadoptable as they don't have the means to do any more than basic spays and neuters, so her time is coming to an end. They say she even does the wave :)

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
