Gem of the Day: "Keep on going, and

Soon, August will
be but a memory.
August is the slowest month for Non-Profits
and it seems that as the month prepares to
make her Exodus until next year, Bichons
have begun making their entrances, in stellar
fashions and in droves.
They are coming from everywhere. From owners
who have died and are going into nursing
homes, not necessarily in that order.
They are coming in from shelters where they
are on the lists to be euthanized, and that
is exactly what would happen, without us,
without you.
Though there isn't
one who has been
hit by
a car, or one with
a rare disease in
this
latest bunch, they
do have one thing
in common.
They all need the
basic vetting that we provide.
It averages about
$500.00 per dog.
It includes, spay
or neuter, vaccinations,
blood work, Heartworm
Tests, Fecal Test,
removal of lumps
and bumps and pathology,
and dentals.
Dentals are always expensive, depending on
how many teeth are pulled.
So, I'm going to
take you on a tour
of the
last few days here
at Small Paws.
All of these babies need your help. It is
AUGUST and funds are extremely low.
We got this email
from a shelter near
Oklahoma
City, on Sunday.
<Hi Ladies,
This girl is at the OKC Shelter. She's a
matted mess but very sweet and she is spayed,
probably around 5 years old. Her stray time
is up so she can leave any time. Sorry for
the short notice, I've been in and out of
the office sick so I'm a little behind. Let
me know if you’re interested in pulling her.
Her ID is 121951.>

We named her "Summer" and she is
only five years old.
Bless her heart.
WE HAVE HER!!
Our wonderful volunteer,
Ginger Wetz, went
to pick her up and
whisked her to safety.
It will run right
at $500.00 to get
her ready
for adoption. We
have her!

I took Summer to
Westwood in Norman
yesterday.
She is a very happy
girl. So sweet! They
were going to bathe
her immediately to
clean
her up and get rid
of her fleas. I will
get
an estimate for her
treatment and boarding.
They are grooming
her on the 31st so
I can
take some pictures
then and forward
them
to you. >
Then, Sunday night,
late, I got this
frightening
e-mail.
<Please help this

Good Lord. Come to find out a brother and
sister shared a home and the brother died.
The sister was going to euthanize this precious
2 year old Bichon before a brave neighbor
interceded! Meet "Rocko"!
(It would have been premeditated murder,
I tell you!)
WE HAVE HIM!
Then, from a shelter that euthanizes in Chicago,
we got an urgent call to come for a 9 year
old female who was about to assume room temperature
if we didn't. Yipes.

9 year old "Babe".
WE HAVE HER!
She looks good for 9! Matted and dirty but
very sweet. She will need dental and vaccinations,
plus quarantine. Her eyes look good:) she
wghs 14 lbs. >
Then, while Sara was there keeping Babe from
being euthanized, she found this little 10
month old, and his time was up! She was grabbing
one with each arm!

Little "Huey" is 10 months old.
We couldn't leave him there. They were full
and we know what happens when shelters are
full.
WE HAVE HIM!!
From Sara: I pulled him today, when I went
to get the 9 year old. He is a 10 month old
bichon mix. Will need neuter, quarantine
and vaccinations. >
Then we got an owner surrender from an employee
at a vet office, for a five year old male,
and he was in danger.

Snoopy is five.
WE HAVE HIM!

Rob,
Mom has a form of Wegeners disease, an autoimmune
disease. You can Google it. Its the body
attacking itself. It can be successfully
treated if caught in time with steroids and
a chemo drug. We are going to Burlington
tomorrow for further diagnosis and treatment.
She's scared as are we but we are keeping
our eye on the end goal, to get her well
again. I have been here for two weeks and
will meet Randy in VT. On Wed. Please keep
us in your prayers and share with the Small
Paws Prayer Warriors. Especially Louie! Thanks
Rob, love Barb

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought
it was truly the epitome of what we do, and
why we do it. I wanted to use this black
and white picture of Humphrey, taken only
days before his death due to congestive heart
failure, to let those who may be new to Small
Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known
love. He would have died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
