Gem of the Day: "Life is fragile, handle

Dearest Robin, thank you for being with
us all the way! It's pretty hard to express
the warmth that one feels when someone is
there for you. Here is a note for all the
Small Pawsers who continuously reached out
to Walt and me;
To our friends at SPR-Walt is okay, Walt
is fine! He had a colonoscopy this morning
that is NORMAL!! He can start eating again,
running, yard work and all the fun stuff
we elders enjoy. Story is that an XRay of
2 1/2 weeks ago was interpreted incorrectly:
(Constricted colon with large mass behind
the narrowing")
In truth, there was
no constriction,
no narrowing.
We appreciate all your love, prayers and
support that has come to us. We felt it,
we knew you were in our hearts. And we thank
you!!
Now on to a NORMAL
day. Love, Rose and
Walt
Coward
(Rose is waiting for more orders from the
Small Paws Rescue Online E-Store
to celebrate this great news!)

Bichons are falling
from the skies, coming
at us from every
angle.
They need your help. We need your help.
First, it's August,
our slowest month of
the year for donations.
Yet homeless Bichons are popping up everywhere
AND they are sick or injured.
I'm not kidding. This is serious.
We have one who has been hit by a car in
Sara Pace's area (along with two others who
were saved from euthanasia) and one Bichon
who is bleeding and needs surgery who is
with Louie Bertolino.
This isn't even counting their regular vetting
that has to be done, oh and by the way, Sindy
Parsons in South Texas pulled a pair from
the La Porte, Texas Shelter, to boot.
All in all, $4100.00
needs to be raised for
their most immediate
needs.
I know it is overwhelming.
And I know it is
a lot to ask.
But they can't ask. They are depending on
me to ask, though it never gets easier for
me to come and ask you for money.
First, these are Sara's rescues near Chicago
IL.
We named them after Olympic Champions.
One of them has been hit by a car (one of
the Bichons, not one of the Olympic Champions)
and he is in trouble.
He laid there for a week with no pain meds
and was scheduled for euthanasia before we
came to get him.

INJURY)

From: pacess4@att.net

"Ashton Eaton" has been hit by
a car. He is only two years old.
We had 3 fluffs come into rescue that were
at risk of being euthanized. This is Ashton
Eaton. He is estimated at 2 years old. He
was hit by a car over a week ago and has
been at the shelter ever since. He has bruising
on his abdomen and is in pain. I took him
to the orthopedic surgeon today. This is
what she said, Ashton presented for lameness
and weakness in the rear end. He is painful
in manipulation of the hips. Radiographs
show luxated right hip and left ischial and
pubic fractures. There is abdominal bruising.
Recommendations are a CBC/Chem, pain meds
and a FHO (Femoral Head Ostomy) on the right side.
Ashton was sweet even though scared and in
pain. .>

Nathan Aidrian is one year old.
Here is one big, beautiful boy. Meet Nathan.
He is 1 yr old owner surrender that was at
risk. He comes in at 18 #'s. He was very
scared at the shelter. He needs neuter, vaccinations,
HW, Fecal test and 10 day quarantine. His
estimated cost is $450-500.
Will keep you posted
on them all!
Thank you

Ryan Lochte is 1-2 years old. He looks like
he just got out of the water, doesn't he?
This is Ryan Lochte. He weighs 10 lbs and
is estimated at 1-2 yrs old. He was wet and
very matted. Many kisses from him. Ryan will
need a neuter, possible dental,quarantine,
vaccinations, HW and fecal test. The estimate
is $500.00
Oh, I forgot to add. Naperville Animal Hospital
can do the FHO repair on Ashton for $600.00,
he will also need a neuter, dental, vaccinations,
10 day quarantine, HW and fecal test, a Cbc
and chemistry, which is an additional $500.
00.
Thank you!

Next, you all know one of my favorite people,
Louie Bertolino.
He's an auditor for the state of MA., and
he's the one who takes credit card donations
over the phone for Small Paws. He also sends
out Thank You and Sympathy cards for Small
Paws. He's a dedicated foster parent as well.
And both of his foster
dogs need surgeries.
Skipper needs something
removed from his
eyelid. The vets
wanted $800.00 to do that
small surgery in
MA!
It is so expensive in MA. for veterinary
care, that Louie's willing to drive several
hours away to save over $1000.00 for just
one of the surgeries.
So now, we need to raise funds so we can
authorize this surgery.
This poor dog has
sharp bladder stones near his urethra. OUCH.

Bladder stones

To: pup3@aol.com
Hi Robin,
I just was talking
with Joanne, and
came
back from the hospital
with my foster Charlie.

Charlie
Charlie was confirmed with multiple sharp
bladder stones, and the x-rays showed that
they are lower and close to the urethra and
is possible that they could block at anytime.
They recommended they be removed as soon
as possible. Charlie wants to run and play
very much, but he is only limited to siting
on the couch. He is being very good about
the situation even though it must hurt since
when he urinates, very little comes out each
time. His last vet prescribed some antibiotics
because he was urinating blood and had crystals
with epithilial cells in his urine when they
tested. They said its from the sharp stones
scrapping up the inside of the bladder. Ouch.
The hospital estimated $2360 and will give
us a 10% discount.

So, our Team Leader, Joanne Raus, got to
work to find a vet who would do this surgery
for less money in CT.
Dr. Osorio in New
Haven, CT. will do
the
bladder stone surgery
for $1000.00.
Then if that isn't enough, in La Porte Tx.,
Sindy Parsons (sindy@sindyparsons.com) picked
these two up yesterday.
These are the pictures form the shelter,
before we picked them up.

Estimates will be at least $500.00 each.
This is the little female.
This is the little male.
So that is what has happened just on Monday
and Tuesday of this week.
If I had room and more of your time, I could
go on and on.
We have multiple
heartworm cases going
on
as well.
It is just overwhelming and they need your
help.
I am here to issue
any matching challenges
that come in for
"The Dog Days
of Summer"
rescues.
Help.

Hi Robin,
I am writing with
a prayer request
for my
friend, Joan's Bichon
Rudi. Rudi is 14
1/2
year old and not
doing well today
at all.
I fear he will soon
be crossing the Rainbow
Bridge. So please
ask your Prayer Warriors
to pray for Rudi
and for his mom Joan.
It
has been a very hard
day. He sleeps continuously,
not eating or drinking
and having trouble
walking as his hind
legs do not want
to hold
him up. He cried
all morning this
morning.
I am spending the
day with Joan just
in case.
Thank you in advance
for the prayers.

Just a quick note
to let everyone know
we
lost our beautiful
Small Paws
Foster girl, Miss Suga today. She lost her
battle with Valley Fever and
Renal Failure. For those of you who got to
meet her and remember her
story, you know how special she was. I want
to really thank Small Paws
Rescue for giving
us the opportunity
to have
Suga in our lives
for almost
two and a half years. She was rescued from
a local Shelter where she was on
the Euthanasia list for having a large hernia.
I also want to thank all of our Small
Paws Volunteers, Supporters and donors for
everything that you do too.
Because without you, we couldn't do the work
that we do.
Peace and Blessings
to all

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought
it was truly the epitome of what we do, and
why we do it. I wanted to use this black
and white picture of Humphrey, taken only
days before his death due to congestive heart
failure, to let those who may be new to Small
Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known
love. He would have died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
