Gem of the Day: "And it occurred to
me why I may prefer
the company of dogs
to
that of some humans.
I've never known
a dog
to take a person
to an execution chamber,
and leave him there."
~Robin Pressnall~

Remember little McDreamy who was hit by a
car in the Dallas area? He was taken to a
kill shelter. He had a broken leg, but even
worse, his bladder had been severely damaged
and had to be rebuilt by Dr. Skip, our surgeon
in OKC.

This is him today, now known as "Dante",
living with one of our Arkansas volunteers.
Debbie Archer, and her family. This is what
your donation dollars do.
They save lives and make memories!

If you missed our last newsletter, here it is.
Can you even imagine making the decision
to take your Bichon to a kill shelter, because
he or she was getting older?
That's what happened
to this little one.
Her name is Nala.
Now, we are her only
family.

Nala came to us 1 wk ago from a KY. kill
shelter. Nala is
estimated to be 12-14. Her
owners dumped her
at the shelter because
they "didn't
want her any more."
:( She is being quarantined
at Groveport
Animal Clinic and
when the vet examined her
yesterday she noted
a growth (approx 2 in.)
on Nala's back foot.
Dr. Franklin needs to
know whether to take
it off when she does
the spay and dental,
which is currently scheduled
for Friday.
That would bring
the total for spay, dental
and growth removal
to between $660 and $800
(the difference being
whether she needs teeth
removed or not).
Please let us know
if it's ok to proceed
with her surgery
on Friday.

We have two additional matching donation
challenges for this
little girl.
This week has been
a difficult one for our
country.
Watching the news
on TV is enough to take
away that "great
day!" feeling
right out of you.
This week has been
hard for Small Paws,
too.
Donations have slowed to a snail's pace,
and we don't know if it's due to August,
vacations, or Wall Street.
Still, my job is to come and tell you what
they need, so this is me, and I'm telling.
First, from Darla Alexander in Grand Rapids
Michigan, we have this challenge for $50.00.
This challenge is made in honor of Susan
Sebring's daughter, Lori, who was shot on
July 21 when she interrupted a home robbery.
Lori's partner, Natalie Gibson, was shot
and killed.
Nine people have
been charged with felony
murder in this vicious
crime.
Thank you Darla.

Subject: challenge
for Nala
Susan, please ask
Robin to issue a
matching
challenge of $50
which people can
match in
any amount up to
$50, for Nala, in
honor
of your daughter
Lori and in memory
of Natalie,
and in tribute to
the Topeka PD who
identified
9 suspects in Natalie's
murder. My heart
goes out to you,
your daughter and
Natalie's
family. I think Natalie
would want us to
continue helping
animals just as she
did
in her too short
life.
Hugs from a bichon
lover,
Darla Alexander
Grand Rapids, MI.<
And from New Hampshire, we have this matching
challenge for $100.00 from Michelle Morgan.
Thank you Michelle!

Nala
Hi Susan,
I wanted to issue
a challenge anyone
whose
ever loved, an old
dog, or cat. (or
other
furry beast) To contribute
$25.00 per animal.
We just lost 2 of
our babies of the
feline
persuasion. Both
reached the ripe
old age
20 years. There is
no way, I would have
parted
with either one just
because they were
old!
Please bill my card
on file an extra
$50.00

If you can't help right now, we sure do understand
that.
Please pray that
there is someone
who can.
Your prayers are
treasured gifts.

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
