Gem of the Day: "When you jump across
a canyon, cautious small steps and vacillation
won't work. Sometimes you just have to go
for it."
~RICK WARREN, Ladies' Home Journal, Oct.
2008~
"Remie" was attacked by a big dog

Dear Small Pawsers,
Welcome to a special Saturday Edition of
the Small Paws® Rescue Online Newsletter,
If you missed our last newsletter, click here to read it.
We are still dealing with a medical emergency,
happening down in Northern Texas.
Remington ("Remie")
was found as
a stray in Fort Worth
and she was attacked
by another dog.
I've just spoken with the emergency vet,
and our Remie is definitely not out of the
woods yet. Please pray.
She wanted permission to do some extensive
blood work to check her proteins and to make
sure she hasn't turned septic on us.
They are really concerned
about her wounds.
The good news is that she looks brighter
in her eyes and she does respond to baby
talk. They said she seems to know her name!

Remie has severe wounds on her shoulder,
and chest. These were the pics taken when
we first got her to the vet, yesterday.

I can't even imagine what this feels like.
It's a miracle that she survived this vicious
attack. I'm halfway wondering if a coyote
may have gotten her and something may have
distracted it, allowing her to escape. It
could have been a large dog. Either way this
was a vicious attack.
She is receiving 24 hour emergency care at
the The Animal Emergency Hospital of North Texas.

They sent these pictures of her this morning.
They will know more in a couple of hours
when they get her blood work back, about
if she has turned septic or not. They are
treating her with strong antibiotics and
pain meds.
We have some amazing matching challenges
this morning!
First, from Byron Byrne, we have this generous
challenge that he will match up to $2000.00
for little Remie! Thank you Byron, so very
much!

I will match all other challenges up to the
total cost of Remie's needs up to 2000.00
(my share). It's been a while since I have
given to this GREAT CHARITY but this little
one got me off my butt. THIS CONTRIBUTION
IS IN MEMORY OF "SHADOW" (6/28/92-5/29/02)
who was not a bichon but a toy poodle. I
found Small Paws Rescue while looking for
a tombstone for shadow after his death from
lymphoma. I still miss him.
Thanks,
Byron>
Then we have a second generous challenge
for $1000.00 from Mike Bush in North Texas!
Thank you Mike, again!

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought
it was truly the epitome of what we do, and
why we do it. I wanted to use this black
and white picture of Humphrey, taken only
days before his death due to congestive heart
failure, to let those who may be new to Small
Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known
love. He would have died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
