The Small Paws Rescue CT. Bichon Bash, hosted by our National Team Leader, Joanne Raus, was a great success and over $1700.00 was raised for Small Paws Rescue.

Many thanks to everyone who participated. If anyone has anymore pictures, please send them to me and I will share a few of them.

Dear Auntie Robin,

I had so much fun today at the SPR Bichon Party!! I met lots of nice fluffs like myself, and I wasn't too afraid. Charlotte had fun too and tried to play with a few fluffs.

The best part of my day, though, was seeing you. I will always remember my dear Auntie Robin who pulled me out of the mill and gave me a new life. I like to listen to your CDs; it makes me happy:-) I am so glad you have a new baby fluff too.

Thank you again for being you and being such a wonderful voice for the bichons who need rescuing. Never think that you are unappreciated; we all cross our paws at night and pray for you and Small Paws and the bichons in need.

I have such a great, happy life!! I love getting up every single day cuz you just never know what might happen:-)

Hugs and lots of love,
Snoopy (SPR "Weed" 2002) Pyne

We are being inundated with owner surrenders, where Bichon's owners have either died, or have been evicted from their homes and left their Bichons in their vacant homes and no, I am not kidding.

I'm going to tell you about a few of the NINE owner surrenders we have gotten in the past two days. NINE. They are coming in, in groups of two and three at a time.

I can't believe this is happening all at once. May has just been horrendous for us.

From Derek Phelps, Team Leader to Arizona.

Three at once.

From: phelpsdd1@cox.net

It has been a very quiet month, yeah! We are down to 5 Dogs here in AZ in foster care.

With that, I had a message waiting for me when I got home today from work. Richard XXXXs' Mother passed away a few days ago and she had 3 Bichons.

Two year old brothers whose Mom passed away.
There is also a five year old female.

The 2 brothers are 2 yrs. old and the little female is about 5 yrs. old.
Richard would love to keep them but his large German Shepherd wants to "eat" the little dogs so the Bichons currently are being kept in the Moms now vacant house. No other family members are available to take the dogs so he has turned to me for help.
They are in danger of going to the pound if something can't be done her real soon.
Thanks, Derek >

Then this from Michigan. Uh Boy. Two Bichons running loose on a farm. Not good.

"Hello - I have a friend who had 2 male Bichons (they appear to be brothers) wander into their farm land in Eastern Michigan. I can send a photo if you need to see them. The bichons are not tagged and are being fed by farm owner, however, he already has 4 dogs and cannot keep 2 more. He is currently taking them into his home at night. Our guess is that someone abandoned them due to economic hardship. Do you rescue Bichons in Michigan? I have 3 female Bichons of my own (I also groom my own) so, unfortunately, I am not in a position to adopt 2 more (although I'd love to help ensure these dogs are placed together in a new home).
Thank you!
Kim."

And from Kentucky:

Mercedez' Mom also passed away.

Your Main Email Address (enter only one valid email address):: XXXX

Has this dog been Spayed or Neutered?: Don't Know
Can you tell us why this dogs needs to be rehomed?: My mother died this past Tuesday, I have rescued a dog little over 2 yrs ago from you all and I knew you were a great rescue group. I currently have 2 dogs and do not have time or space because we live in a small 2 bedroom condo to home another dog. Mercedez is super sweet, but my mother was never able to fully potty train her or groom her. I was unaware of how bad the living conditions were until my mother passed away because we were not on speaking terms. I am the only child around to handle all the after care needs of my mothers estate. Currently Mercedez is still at her house and my son is living there, but everything is about to go into probate and he will need to leave and I cannot take Mercedez. To the best of my knowledge I do not think she has been fixed, but I could be wrong. I do not think she is up to date on shots either. Due to me being financially responsible for all the funeral arrangements I am unable to spend any money on Mercedez. I do love Mercedez, her and my mother lived with me about 3 yrs ago so we have bonded. I just cannot take her.
I do not want to give her away to a stranger that may abuse her or breed her, she will need TLC and time to potty train her.
Your phone number and the best times to reach you?: XXXXX it is a business line, the funeral is tomorrow so if I do not answer please leave a message, I will be the only one retrieving them.
Your relationship to the dog?: Relative of Owner
Housetrained?: Puppy Pad somewhat
Is this Bichon good with children?: Yes,
Is this Bichon or Bichon Mix safe for the time being?: Unknown>

Hi Robin,
This quote rings so very true on so many levels
" The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?" ~Jeremy Bentham (1748-1832) English philosopher~
Working with rescue often shows us the dark side of humanity, the ignorant side, and the apathetic side. We try to create awareness of humane treatment of all creatures. This is a quote from my sister's rescue, .with that please
put out another $100.00 challenge.Deborah and Boris>

Those are our needs.

Donations are really down with the tornadoes and we realize that the victims of that tragedy need help too.

These things never happen at a "good" time, financially.

If you can help, we need you.

If you can't help, please pray that there is someone who can.

All My Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
