Here is the post I just made to friends about
our Becca, originally named Pecca and rescued
from the Missouri puppy mills at age 9. She
never truly healed from her mill experience,
but was happy and made us happy for six years.
Let me say, to all the Small Pawsers out
there, foster, consider a senior, consider
a mill dog, they need you so much and, while
the mill dogs are a challenge and the seniors
leave us too soon, it is MORE than worth
the trouble and the pain at the end to help
them learn, grow, be loved in their final
years.
Most of you didn't know Becca, even if you
met her. She was almost 15 and spent 9 years
in the Missouri puppy mills. She was our
eighth foster fluff for Small Paws and not
one person was ever interested in adopting
her. We finally adopted her officially as
our own and watched her slowly grow to trust
us until, just this year for the first time,
she took high value treats directly from
our hands. She loved to follow us around,
talk to us, learned to beg and was very happy,
though she never ever wanted to be touched
or held. She had been losing #'s for no reason
over the last couple of months, but otherwise,
she was her happy self. In fact she had a
wonderful 3 weeks getting lots of treats
from her grandpa while my parents came to
visit this summer. Yesterday afternoon, she
took a sudden turn for the worse and was
in growing distress until by 9 pm she would
actually let us hold her, which we both did
off and on until 1:30 this morning, when
she left us. She was a happy dog for those
last few years, and we are grateful to have
been blessed with being her parents for her
final years. She is now cuddling in a fluff
pile with her fellow SPR rescue and mill
survivor, our beloved Lisa, who left us 15
months ago.

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
