Gem of the Day: ""We are what we
repeatedly do.
Excellence, then,
is not an act, but
a habit."
~Aristotle~

2 year old "Christmas Eve" is one
of the Bichons that a good Samaritan stopped
from being shot by her commercial kennel
owner in Missouri, back in December.
He saved them and brought them into the Joplin,
MO. Shelter.
We came to get them
the next day.
"Eve" is
only two but she has a
grade 5-6 PDA heart
Murmur.
OF COURSE SHE DOES!
With all that is happening, one critically
ill Bichon right after the other,
well, I couldn't make this stuff up if I
tried.
This is from Linda Fausey, one of Ohio Team
Leaders and Eve's foster Mom.:
Subject: Eve
From: LFAUSEY@COLUMBUS.RR.COM
"I think she
likes it here! Except
she
will not willingly
go out into the snow.
She sets her whole
body to resist at
the
doorway. I have to
carry her our. Of
course,
she doesn't know
what to do out there.
Eve is a funny little thing. She seems to
be getting close to me. If I go down to the
lower level for something she cries loudly
at the top of the stairs until I come up!
She's skittish, but if I'm very slow moving
and talk quietly to her she will stand still,
then cower when I reach for her, poor little
girl. She likes me to scratch behind her
ears and will relax on my lap. Linda"

Welcome! We hope you enjoy reading about
the Bichons and the people who love them!
If you missed our last newsletter, here it
is.
How can this be happening? I don't know ,
but it is.
As you know we have
done over 80 PDA heart
murmur repairs over
the past 12 1/2 years.
We've been highlighted on Animal Planet,
twice, for our work in this field.
The Heart Murmur
Reunion Page (Some of the last surgeries are not listed
yet. Sorry! Note to self!)
Dr. Thaibinh Nguyenba
D.V.M. is our cardiologist, extraordinaire. This
is a picture of he
and I together in July
of 2009, as they
were filming our last show
on Animal Planet.
He's at Medvet Speciality Hospital in Worthington
Ohio and he is just
plain good.
He helped to design the "plug", a device which they use to plug up the
holes in the hearts of these little ones.
And, he loves us and these little Bichons.
He gives us a huge
discount for their
heart
surgeries.
Even with this discount,
it costs us right
at $2000.00 each
time.
Without the surgery, Eve's heart will continue
to enlarge and one day, there won't be enough
room for it to continue to beat.
She can't help it she was born in a puppy
mill in Missouri with an owner who bred her
and then planned to shoot her, right there
in front of God and everybody.
She can't help it that isn't a cute 10 week
old puppy. She is an adult.
But she is also something
else.

Eve is is a BICHON and that means that she
is family to us.
Her last name is SMALL PAWS and that, my
friend, means something.
Her life has value. Her life has worth.
She will be able
to give and receive
love
to a human being,
if we can get this
hole
in her heart repaired.
Have I ever told you how I'd rather have
a root canal than
to come and ask for help
again?
I keep thinking that you all must be thinking,
"Does that women ever give it a REST??"
Each time I try to
give it a rest another
one pops up, RIGHT
THERE IN FRONT OF ME BIG
AS LIFE.
I'm minding my own business and then BOOM.
There they are.
I couldn't make this
stuff up if I wanted
too.
It's too bizarre
how it all happens.
As if it's being orchestrated by Someone
else.
And then I find myself saying, "Yes
Sir. Yes Sir. Yes I will try. Thank You for
letting us have the opportunity to try. I
will go and ask them. I'm your girl! Have
mouth! Will travel!"
She was in line to
be shot dead.
The neighbor heard
the shots and saved her.
She came to Tulsa
where she was diagnosed
with a heart murmur.
We flew her to Ohio
where she was double
diagnosed with a
heart murmur.
Now, they want to do this surgery this FRIDAY.
The same day McDreamy
is supposed to be sprung
from the ER in OKC.
Oh Joy.
I'm bleary eyed and
I know you are too.
I don't even know
another way to ask you.
Different words.
Better words.
All I know to do is to come and tell you
what is wrong and what Eve needs to survive.
If we can't raise
funds we will need to postpone
her surgery until
we can.
I'm hoping to be
able to tell them to take
her on in that operating
room on Friday and
fix her little broken
heart.
I'm hoping that is what you all want, too.
All My Love, Robin

I need prayer warriors
right now. Fuzzy
has
cancer that has spread
and I have to take
him back later to
go to the bridge.
This
is so hard for me.
I only had him for
two
wonderful years after
buddy was killed.
I
can't type anymore
bc my eyes are all
teary
and swollen. I have
him here for only
the
next few hours then
we go to the clinic
where
they will give him
night night serum.
Please
pray for us. These
are my children.

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
