Dear Small Pawsers,
Welcome to our newest members of our Small Paws® Rescue Online Newsletter, especially to those of
you who have seen
us on Fox and Friends in New York City, or on Animal Planet on "Dogs 101."
Welcome! We hope
you enjoy reading
about
the Bichons and the
people who love them!
If you missed our last newsletter, here it
is.
Well, we have a "situation". It's
sort of like having a perpetual full moon
around here.
I told you last week that we would have TWO
heart babies coming in soon.
Funny. That rainy day is here.
We knew it was coming
but we didn't know
that that the first
little one, a darling
five month old puppy
named Murphy, was going
to need to be moved
up as in TWO DAYS FROM
NOW.
It's ok. I can do this. I'm breathing and
would encourage each of you to do the same.
In with the good
air, out with the
bad.

His foster mom says: "Murphy is the
absolute best puppy. He is housebroken -
yes, you read that correctly. He loves to
be brushed, he knows the sit command, walks
great on a leash and is an all around sweetheart."
You see, the right
side of his little
heart
is enlarged and Thaibinh
wants to go ahead
and go in and repair
that PDA THIS Wednesday,
the 17th of November.
GULP.
For those of you who are new to Small Pawsing,
just what is a PDA heart murmur?
more.
Dr. Thainbinh Nguyenba is our personal cardiologist.
He was instrumental in designing the device
that is used to repair these heart murmurs,
thus saving these precious lives.

This is Thainbinh and I in front of the Medvet
Medical Center For Pets in Worthington, Ohio,
the morning we were filming for "Dogs
101" for Animal Planet.
If you are new and haven't see that episode
yet, here it is on Youtube.
(Our portion of the program is about another
heart murmur repair that we did!)
We get great service there at Medvet and
our Bichons get the best medical care available.
The price is roughly half of what it is anywhere
else for these PDA Heart Murmur repairs.
Dr. Thainbinh Nguyenba (pronounced Ty-Bin Win-Baw) and the Cardiology
staff at Medvet, keep me updated by phone
every step of the way with our heart babies.
I have Thaibinh's
cell and his home
phone
numbers, and he's
told me to call him
day
or night, if we need
him.
We've done this a
few times before,
you might
say.

So, since the right side of little Murphy's
heart is getting larger with each heart beat,
(the heart is a muscle. The harder it has
to work to pump the blood throughout the
body, the larger it becomes. If it becomes
too large, there is no more room for it to
beat, and we don't even MAYBE want to go
there as it involves assuming room temperature
and other not so nice things.)
I know it's Monday
night. I know we don't
usually raise funds
on a Monday night.
But this is something where they don't want
to wait. And if THEY don't want to wait,
we don't WANT then to wait, right?
Baby Murphy needs your help. WE need your
help to be able to help him.
We have the following
matching challenges
that came in over
the weekend before we even
knew we were going
to have to move Baby Murphy's
surgery up.
But I know these challengers would want their
challenges to be issued right away.
The first one is LIVE, from Manhattan in
NEW YORK CITY, from Deborah Berger and her
infamous Bichon, Groucho, er, I mean, Boris..

Hi Aunt Robin,
Please issue a $200.00 challenge for all
the fluffs. I've been perfecting my disguise
since my last appearance on Fox and Friends, so I'll let you word the challenge anyway
you see fit. Your devoted friend forever,
Boris Berger.
And how many of you have ever opened your
heart to an older fluff ball?
If so, this one's for you. Thank you Brenda,
for loving Pickle's so very much, and for
giving him such a loving home during his
last years on this earth.

Prayer Requests
(God loves you more

This was sent to me this evening. Wanted
to share as it's so touching. My brother
is out of ICU again but not holding my breath,
but he can nod yes and no because of the
trach and now has been in the hospital going
on 2 months on the 22nd of this month. He
was moved out of ICU again this past week.
He is awake more now but still on antibiotics
for the pneumonia. He will probably be in
this new hospital for 3 to 4 more weeks.
He has along way to go to get weaned off
the trach and vent and then get to eating
again as he's on a feeding tube now. The
physical therapy to get to walk again is
on the agenda also.
Also on Mick, we had blood work again a week
ago and again 100% perfect but his protein
was a tiny bit low. He had a titer test and
did not need to have his parvo and distemper
shots. He's still eating chicken and noodles
and veggies. He munches dog food when the
mood hit him. He plays with the others and
has good days and bad but more good. Dr Carlson
said in "western medicine" it would
probably be called IBS.
Thanks so much for
all the prayer for
Mick
and Tom but still
they are needed.
Would it be possible to ask for cards to
be sent to Tom? He's been in for almost 2
months and possible for another 3 to 4 weeks
and then a convalescent home to get his strength
back. He has been in bed almost all of that
time. I am sure its going to take quite a
lot of time to get back to totally being
Tom. Hospital rooms are kind of bleak and
dreary and I would love to poster his wall
he can see from the bed with cards if possible.
(This is from his wife) Linda Collins
"By the way, Tom is very "touched"
when I recount to him all the well wishing
coming his way. to send a card: Thomas Collins

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
