Gem of the Day: "Awesome! YouTube Pop-Up Hallelujah Chorus

heart!)
"Just this past
weekend, shoppers
at

Philadelphia (the
old Wanamaker

when over 600 choristers
who were there mingling
with regular shoppers
suddenly burst into

Dear Small Pawsers,
Welcome to our newest members of our Small Paws® Rescue Online Newsletter, especially to those of
you who have seen
us on Fox and Friends in New York City, or on Animal Planet on "Dogs 101."
Welcome! We hope
you enjoy reading
about
the Bichons and the
people who love them!
If you missed our last newsletter, here it
is.
Regular vet bills are costing us almost $2000.00
per day and that's with a rescue discount.
EEEK and no, there is no mouse!
See Vet Bills Paid by Small Paws® Rescue
for the first nine days of November, 2010
totalling $16, 997.38, which is an average
of $1,888.57 per day.
And that doesn't count emergency hip surgeries
like we have happening in Scottsdale AZ.
right now.
Meet 8 year old Koby, whose being fostered
in AZ. by Laura Peterson.
This is Kobe's Petfinder bio.
He is also diabetic
which only adds to
any
other medical issue.
It all started late last Saturday night when
Derek Phelps, our AZ. Team Leader called
me, to tell me that Kobe was on the way to
the Emergency Room. So we have that bill
to start off with. Kobe was in "extreme
pain" and the ER Dogtors wanted to put
him under, and go in and pop his unexplainable
dislocated hip, back into place for "$1100.00 and it could me more once
they got in there."
Something told me that wasn't right. Now
you can call it "woman's intuition".
You can call it 12 years of experience working
with vets all over the country, at all hours
of the night and day, regarding everything
from broken bones to infected or deformed
"winkidink" issues. (Editor's Note:"Winkidink"
is the word that you, as a group. chose for
me to use in these newsletters, when the
real word describing certain male body parts,
wasn't able to get past the spam blockers.)
You can call it all of those things, when
I make a medical call like this without medical
training. You can call it whatever you like
to call it. Listening to that still small
voice inside of you.
I call it the "Shut up Robin and listen"phenomena,
a God Thing, something that is difficult
to understand if it hasn't happened to you,..
yet."
I told the ER vet to load him up with pain
killers, as much as his little diabetic body
could stand without messing with his blood
sugars, and we would crate rest him overnight
until the next morning when our Board Certified
Surgeon at Aztec Hospital, Dr. Diego Flores, would see him.
Dogtor Flores had already agreed to come in the following
Sunday morning to see Kobe, for Small Paws.
Derek called Sunday morning to tell me that
if we had let the ER put Kobe under, while
spending $1100.00 to do so, it would have
stayed in place maybe 24 hours and then it
would have popped right back out.
Because, Kobe needed a surgical procedure
called an FHO, a Femoral Head Ostectomy.
(Dr. Skip in OKC did this surgery several
years ago for my Chipper, on both sides.
Now Chipper runs like a puppy at age almost
13 without a limp or pain!)
Putting Kobe's hip back into place would
have caused him more pain because it would
have popped right back out, wasted $1100.00
of precious donor funding, and we would have
had to end up doing an FHO surgery on him
anyway, in addition to that.
"Shut up Robin
and listen."
"Yes, SIR and
thank you God."
So, Dr. Florez got him stabilized with a
splint and good pain meds for three days
before going into emergency hip surgery yesterday.
Total cost for the FHO surgery was $581.00
with the huge discount they give us there.
All in all, our costs for little Kobe add
up to right at $1000.00 including the ER
visit.
Thanks to so many of you, even though we
still are not back
up to zero yet in
our
bank account, we
are close. But that
wasn't
counting "Kobe's
Weekend Adventure."
So, we have some

organization was built by 100 people donating
$10.00 each, not by 10 people donating $100.00!

Hi Susan,
I live in IL with a beautiful blessing named
Sammy Bichon. Sammy & I would like to
put out a $10 matching challenge for each
of the five bichons rescued out of the Chicago,
IL, shelters. If anyone can donate $10 toward
even one of them, we want to match it! We
figure 10 bucks isn't that intimidating of
a number for most people, and while it's
a small amount, it can still make a difference.
We also want to say
in the event no one
meets
our matching challenge
(BOO!!), we still
want to help our
cousin bichons, so
if our
challenge is not
met, you can still
put $50
on my card (on file)
to help those little
snuggle nuggets.

you Claire!

these little ones
If I had room, I
would have them all.
But,
as we all know, want
and can are two different
things. So in speaking
with the two fluffs
here, who run the
household budget
apparently,
we felt that Christmas
gifts can come later
and the Turkey doesn't
need to be as big.
So Tatter and Junie
Small Paws Miller
have
graciously (not to
sure about Tatter
and
the turkey size,
but he'll get over
it) offered
to challenge anyone
that can help to
match
at least $20 each
as they have. Tatter,
still
not sure about that
turkey being smaller,
and Junie Bug are
donating a total
of $40.00
to help where ever
it can be used.
I REALLY need to
have a talk with
Tatter
about the word share.
I promised him an
extra
tablespoon of Dogster
ice cream since all
these little ones
need the help. He
seemed
fine with that. So
I will have them
take
turns monitoring
the computer to see
if there
are any takers. Of
course I have to
check
history when Tatter
gets off the computer
to see how many little
females are out there
for his calendar.
Gotta really have
"that"
talk with him.
We all love you from

Again, below are just a few of the Bichons
I told you about earlier in the week needing
$4404.92 in regular vetting costs. And we
still have TWO, count them, TWO heart murmur
pups coming up for surgery soon.
And, we are not up
to zero yet but we
are
close!
All My Love, Robin
P.S. Thank you all for the kind thoughts,
precious words and most of all, for your
prayers. Yesterday I was diagnosed with having
a "cold nodule" on my thyroid gland
and will now go in for an ultrasound. 85%
of these are benign but it is causing my
TSH level to be very low to almost non existent.
I also have a swollen lymph node on the right
side of my neck, and that's a slight concern.
Earlier, right before we had the Okie bash,
they took blood and tried to grow a culture
of antibodies in a lab to see if it was a
hidden infection of some sort and of course,
you know me, I flunked that test! So now
we will move forward with more diagnostics.
Please know that I FEEL GREAT. Don't worry
that I don't feel well because I feel like
I could whoop every puppy miller in MO. and
Ohio and regarding the puppy millers in Lancaster
County PA, I feel so good that I believe
I could take them too. That's how good I
feel. So thank you for your prayers. I'll
keep you updated as we know more! Robin

Here is a little guy we pulled from animal
control today.

Kathy Macpherson and her husband went into
Chicago to get him. They are a very high
kill facility and put dogs down every day.
Every white dog they get there is a "poodle"
The new manager is very rescue friendly,
so they are trying really hard to get more
rescued, so their euth rates go down. A volunteer
there told me unfortunately they euthanize
dogs every day. They are the facility that
gets in about 25,000-30,000 dogs per year.
We named him Sonny. He is estimated to be
about 6 months old. Still has baby teeth.
He will need neuter, quarantine and some
vaccinations. The quarantine is $8 per day.
Estimated cost $500.00
Will keep you updated,
Thanks,
Sara (IL and IN)

Subject: Lulu Small Paws
Hi Robin and Bonnie,
I got an email yesterday that there were
3 bichons at Animal Welfare in Chicago that
needed rescue. This center is only an intake
facility. If rescues or no kill shelters
do not take them, than they are euthanized.
These 3 were running out of time. There were,
4 bichons at this facility but a small breed
rescue came through and only took the 1 yr
old bichon male, which left the other 3.
I picked up 3-4 yr old Lulu today, 2 yr old
Joey and 6 yr old Coco.
I am e-mailing you pics of all of them.
Here is Lulu. She is 8.5 #'s and thin. The
facility did shave her because she was her
fur was in such bad condition. She was a
stray. She will need 16 days quarantine @
$8 per day, spay, and some vaccinations.
They did give her a distemper and bordetella.
Her estimated vetting/quarantine will be
$500-600.
I will forward you pics of the boys in different
emails.

Subj: Beamer estimate
for approval
Hi Robin,
I got the estimate for Beamer (one of our
shelter pulls). He is estimated to be 1 year
old, 18.6 #'s. He has an ear infection that
needs flushed. His 16 day quarantine, neuter,
and ear cleaning is estimated at $545.12.
Just waiting on your approval for this one.
Thanks! He should go quickly once we get
him taken care of, the groomer was able to
save most of his hair, and they did it for
us for free. He's a handsome boy!

Okay, Mid Valley Vet estimate came in at
approx $729.90 (they put bonded pairs in
the same cage to save us money, aren't they
wonderful?)
That's for 16 days of boarding, neuter, cone
of shame, fecal and heartworm test, first
heartworm dose(free), Frontline (free), Microchip
(free), for both boys.
Do I have the okay on that one?

Here are the pics of 5-6 yr old Buttercup.(
I emailed an update on her a few days ago
but didn't have pics) She was going to be
PTS at a high kill animal control. She was
a total different dog when Kathy and I got
her out of animal control. She was backed
into a corner of the cage, shaking and terrified.
Once we got her out, we got kisses, tail
wags and smiles.(See below) She had been
at animal control since mid Oct. (not a nice
place). She is recovering from her spay and
is currently in quarantine @ the Animal Hospital.
Estimate is $500-600.
