Gem of the Day: "I watch my dogs. They
throw themselves into everything they do;
even their sleeping is wholehearted. They

Baby Macy is going to be having heart murmur

just wanted to update
you on baby Macy!
OK. We got trouble. Right here in River City.
I think we need some garlic and a cross to
wave over Chicago, Illinois.
This is from Sara Pace, our IL. Team Leader.
These four will cost nearly $2000.00 to vet
them.
Is there anyone who can help with vetting
for the Chicago Four?
Yes there are more than these four who need
help, but I don't want to send you running
down the street in your nightgown, screaming
that the sky is falling.
(Not that I know
anyone who has actually
done that.)
There were three and then we just added a
fourth, last night, all from Chicago.

(IL)
Hi Robin and Bonnie
It has been a crazy
start to the week.
I
got a call from 2
different shelters
in Chicago,
both very high kill.
We ended up taking
3
bichons.
The third is Alicia Rose. She is a 2 yr old
bichon. This shelter did vaccinate and spay
her for us. She will need a dental. Her estimated
cost is 350 dollars.
Eric and Leila have estimates for approx
$600.00 each.
We do get a complimentary
exam at no charge
for each rescue.
The prices are all
very
good and we get a
30% discount.
Sincerely,
Sara Pace, SPR teamleader
IL and IN
pacess4@att.net

Vetting estimate $600.00
This is Eric. He
is estimated to be
4 yrs
old. He is a big
boy, weighs 22 lbs.
Also rescued from
being Put to sleep.
He
has been groomed.
The doctors are treating
his bloody tail with
antibiotics.
The first we named
Eric (Animal Control).
He was found as a
stray. They only
hold for
7 days. His time
was up. He is estimated
to be around 3 yrs
old. He will need
neuter,
dental and vaccinations.
He also had a very
bloody tail and bottom
from Chewing. The
vets office will
groom him, check
his anal
glands and start
antibiotics.

Vetting Estimate $600.00
Leila is a sweetie!
Leila is 2 yrs old
and 23 lbs. This is Leila.
Sorry the pic is
blurry. Leila was very excited
and hard to photograph!
She is a 2 year old
bichon-havaneese
mix (that is what the vet
thinks). Leila was
do to be put to sleep.
She is now safe and
sound, thanks to Small
Paws Rescue! Leila
weighs 23 lbs and is in
desperate need of
grooming. She is very lovable
and loves to play!!
She does good with other
dogs and has a very
peppy, puppy personality.
Leila will need a
foster home in 16
days.
She will be spayed
and vaccinated this
wk.
Her time was also up! She will be a beautiful
girl once shaved
and her hair grows
back.
She has a small hernia,
that the vet
will repair when
they do her spay.
She will
also need 16 day
quarantine,dental
and vaccinations.

Allie's Vetting estimate $300.00.
Alicia Rose is a 2 yr old, puppy mill dog
rescued from high kill shelter. She is already
neutered and vaccinated (they did it for
me, for picking her up)..this shelter will
do this for me, if we take them (very nice
people). She only needs a dental and boarding,
so will be around $350.
And then, last night, we got this.

Toby's owners moved away and took him to
a shelter that doesn't adopt to the public.
It's rescue or, well, it's not good.
I just got this email. We have another one
that will be coming into rescue. There is
an intake facility in Chicago (not a good
area). The dogs that are taken there either
go into rescue or are euthanized. They are
not a shelter that does adoptions. The coordinator
that called me to see if I would take him.
I told her I would get him Saturday. He is
safe now that he is coming to us. She told
me he is a surrender that was dumped because
the family is moving and not taking him with
them. He is 6 yrs old and neutered. Not sure
if he is up to date with vaccinations. She
will do his rabies and distemper for me,
for taking him. He will need a dental and
to be quarantined. His name is Tobias (Toby).
Estimate for vetting will be $350-400.00

We're also taking in an eight year old male
near Houston TX. whose 85 year old owner
is dying.
His son left this poor Bichon alone in the
father's house, for a week, before other
family members went to check on him.
He is so traumatized
he screams every
few
seconds if someone
isn't with him.
They told us they were considering euthanizing
him if we didn't take him.
The family says they don't think this boy
has ever been to see a vet and the father
groomed him, so he never went to a groomer
either. The two were never apart.
I imagine his vet
bill is going to be on
up there and his
little mind is going to
need help to heal.
So with the Chicago Four and little abandoned
Max, I guess the word for the day is HELP.
Please help us to
be able to help them.
Without us, they
all would have assumed
room
temperature.
None of them would have deserved that. All
My Love, Robin

Dear Robin, I'm writing to request prayer
for myself. Since I wrote to you a few weeks
ago to let you know my computer was very
ill, and in need of serious "medical
help", I have been diagnosed w/ a serious,
aggressive form of breast cancer. My testing
has been fast-tracted; and I am scheduled
for surgery next Tues. As a fellow believer
in our precious Savior, I am requesting your
prayers. I lost a sister to b,c, back in
the 80s. I was adopted, as was she,but not
by the same people; so I was fortunate to
even be able to find out about her existence,
and then tract her down. I got to spend one
short weekend w/ her at the home of my twin
brother, who God blessed me to find-and w/
whom I've had a great and ongoing relationship
since. You have my permission to rewrite
my request, w/ such details as you see fit.
I love your writing style, and know you will
do well!! I'm trusting that our Lord will
bring me safely through this ordeal, but
as I am not the most faith-filled believer
who ever lived, there is a fair amount of
fear. Please pray for me, my brother, also
named DALE, [lol], my surgeon, Dr. Jennifer
Manders, and the friends who love me, too.
Part of me wouldn't mind going to Paradise
to see all the dear little "fuzzy friends"
that have gone on ahead of us, and my adoptive
parents, and my niece; but part of me also
wants to stay here to hopefully be more used
of God, and be privileged to be taken up
in the Rapture. I don't want those who love
me to be pained by my early demise. Even
'though we've never met here, I truly am
looking forward to meeting you in Heaven.
I share your heart for animals, especially
the Bichon babies!! You truly are a VERY
SPECIAL LADY; and I hope you will not mind
my ending this w/ love and gratitude for
ALL you have been doing for the Lord, and
His special little creatures, whom I firmly
believe He specifically created to be our
precious close companions to help demonstrate
some of the depth of His great love for us.
By the way, the e-mail you sent to me meant
a lot to me. I was not expecting a reply;
and your reply showed even more what a wonderful
person you are!! Thank you so much for your
prayers and concern!! Sincerely, Kathy Campbell

Buffy in Las Vegas

First of all, I want
to thank you all for
your prayers and
support. I believe that
this is what's kept
her alive and well due
to what she just
went through.
On Monday, I went
to pick up the prescription
for the insulin and
syringes. When I
got
to the pharmacy,
a pharmacist with
an attitude
said that the tech
had to confirm the
prescription,
which was done. When
I went to pick it
up,
the same pharmacist
said that they didn't
have what the vet
had ordered, but
that she
had given me the
next best thing.
Yesterday,
when I went to give
Buffy her shot, I
realized
that the syringe
and needle were way
too
large. I was not
happy, but I measured
according
to what I had been
instructed. It hurt
and
Buffy spent the rest
of the morning basically
hiding from me. This
morning, I took her
to the vet for a
glucose curve, and
I showed
him what the pharmacist
had given me. He
was furious, because
her irresponsibility
had caused me to
give Buffy 10 times
the
prescribed dose.
Luckily, she's OK,
but her
levels were at 95
24-hours after the
shot.
Tomorrow I'm going
to take her back
to the
vet for the glucose
curve, and hopefully
we'll be able to
stabilize her.
My vet had told me
that often pharmacists
display an attitude
when it comes to
filling
prescriptions for
pets, but this ruthless
and incompetent pharmacist
could have killed
my Buffy.
I talked to the pharmacy
manager this morning,
who was appalled
(she's involved with
a rescue
organization) and
promised that she's
going
to investigate the
incident and let
me know
the outcome.
Robin, you don't
have to use my story
per
se, but I would really
appreciate if you
could warn others
about making sure
that
their pets' prescriptions
have been filled
correctly, so no
one else has to go
through
what I just went
through.

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
