Gem of the Day: "No matter how little
money and how few possessions you own, having
a dog makes you rich."

The seven Bichons of our IL. and IN. Team
Leader, Sara Pace, and her husband Scott,

Saturday.

did that!)

If you missed our last newsletter, here it is
We had a great Bichon Bash in Valparaiso,
IN. last Saturday where $2480.00 was raised
for Small Paws.
A reporter was there and here is her story
about our bash.
"Small Paws, Big Cause"
Many thanks to Team Leader Sara Pace and
her husband Scott,
and Co- hostess, Rae Steebs.
The weather was lovely and so was the company.
Thanks to everyone
who participated.
I loved
seeing all of you!
Ok. We have two situations that need your
help and your prayers.
One is regarding the little Bichon who was
seen being thrown from a car in Arizona,
little Miracle.

Click here to see Miracle's Injury Pictures:
Graphic Picture Warning
We quarantine each rescued Bichon from shelters
for 16 days at a vet's office, as we have
seen parvo, kennel cough, or distemper, break
all the way up to day 15.
Yes, this is very expensive, but we do this
to protect the personal dogs of our foster
parents. Their health and safety must come
first.
There are too many strains of these diseases,
so vaccinations alone don't protect our foster
parent's personal dogs against all of these
diseases.
Unfortunately, our little Miracle has broken
with distemper. on day 12 of her quarantine.
The shelter that
she came from has sent several
dogs out lately,
with distemper, according
to her vet.
We have of course
opted to treat her,
as
she is not showing
any neurological
signs,
as of yet.
Her vet told us that 70% of dogs with distemper
end up being euthanized.
We are praying for her to live up to her
name.
The cost to treat
her is running over $500.00.
We do need help with
that.

Three year old little Snowball.
Then, this last week we took in a little
three year old with
a grade six heart murmur,
from another rescue
group who was not able
to provide for him,
after learning about
his heart murmur.
They contacted Small Paws, the experts in
heart murmur repair.
I was hoping it was
a PDA and we could do
surgery, as we have
done so many times before.
The Heart Murmur
Repair Bichons
Sadly, Thaibinh, our Cardiologist Extraordinare,
has called me from Medvet in Worthington,
OH.
Little Snowball has
a birth defect that is
not able to be surgically
repaired.
He has a very enlarged right heart, with
fluid building around it.
He is leaking fluid
into his belly as
well.
He acts like a normal young Bichon, flying
through the house and jumping up on the bed
as if nothing is wrong.
He can be treated
medically, for whatever
time he has left,
but that is going
to cost
some money as well.
He will need to be
on a popular drug used
in men's health,
and if I mention it, the
spam filters will
go nuts.
It rhymes with Niagara.
If anyone knows where
we can get this for
a cheaper price,
let us know.
Little Snowball is going to be going into
hospice care as he may have as little as
a year to live.
His testing at Medvet, is going to be between
$700-800.00
This is some of the
same testing that we
do in order to see
if they are candidates
for surgery.
Unfortunately, Snowball isn't a surgical
candidate, but of course, we still have to
pay for the tests.
Is there anyone out
there who may feel led
to help us with either
Miracle's distemper
treatment or little
Snowball's testing?
Below is how to do
that, if you can help.
All My Love, Robin

You weren’t kidding
in your last email
when
you said “let’s hope
she lives up to her
name”. I had no idea
it was something
so
serious. I can’t
believe how emotional
I
am over a dog that
I’ve spent all of
20 minutes
with. But she’s one
of those dogs that
immediately
endears herself to
you. And, of course,
I’m
still in a bit of
a fragile state over
Daisy.
If ever there was
a time for prayer.

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
