If you missed our last newsletter, here it is
We have some updates about some of our recent
high profile rescues here at Small Paws Rescue.
Everyone is still
hanging in there,
so far!
As you know, five Month Old Baby Colby is at the Aztec Animal Hospital in Scottsdale AZ. Dr. Flores is caring for him.
Last week little Colby was minutes away from
being euthanized in an AZ. shelter.
He was showing signs
of distemper, a very serious disease which is fatal about
70% of the time.
You all reached out
to him and I wanted
to
give you an update.
So far so good. He has definitely tested
positive for distemper, but the good news
is that so far, we have stayed this off and
he is NOT showing any neurological signs
of the disease. If it goes to the brain,
well, lets just say we need to pray it doesn't
go to the brain.
He will need to stay
in hospital for another
2-3 weeks.
Next, we have an
update on little
Miracle,
who is at the same
hospital as little
Colby,
in AZ.

Click here to see pictures of her injuries,
after Miracle was seen being thrown from
a car, by a Good Samaritan, who took her
to the animal shelter. They would not release
her to us for medical treatment until their
stray hold days were completed.:(
Miracle has tested
positive for distemper
too, and like Colby,
so far, so good.
She
has improved slightly.
She is not showing
any neurological
signs, and she is
into this
almost 3 weeks now.
Please pray she lives
up to her name! Fighting
distemper is not
easy for these little
ones!
Next, we have an update on little Blitzer,
the 3 year old who came into rescue with
juvenile cataracts.
We raised money for
him to have both of these
cataracts removed.
Now Blitzer is ok. He is alive and well but
there were complications and he ended up
NOT being a candidate for cataract removal
surgery.
This is what happened.
The kind of cataract
disease that Blitzer
was born with, causes
not only juvenile
cataracts, but also retinal
detachment.
Both of his retinaes detached and his eye
doctor told me that with this kind of disease,
they would have either detached before surgery,
like they did, or after surgery, which would
have made the surgery fail.
So, sadly, he is going to be blind. I'm a
mess over this but thankfully, this doesn't
seem to be bothering Blitzer too much.
We do need a home for Blitzer. Is there anyone
who is willing to give Blitzer a home? He
loves other dogs and people.
And he is HOUSETRAINED!
(not a misprint!)
Since we were not able to have the surgery
done, we want to offer anyone who donated
for Blitzer, a refund if they would like
it.
What we are doing for now, is moving the
money raised for Blitzer, over to several
dogs that were treated at Napier Vet Clinic
in Illinois, for kennel cough, and it was
expensive.
This is just one of the bills for $1372.00
for a little one named "Ricky"
and we had four Bichons from the same shelter
that were all treated for the same thing,
a nasty strain of kennel cough that they
brought in with them from a shelter.
This causes thick mucous to build up in the
nose and eyes, making it difficult for them
to breathe. This is why the nebulizer was
used.
This is also why we quarantine all shelter
dogs for 16 days. To keep them from taking
these diseases like distemper and kennel
cough, home to our foster parent's own personal
dogs.
Let us know if you donated to Blitzer's eye
surgery and would like to have a refund,
instead of your donation being applied to
the dogs with kennel cough who were at the
Napier Vet Clinic.
That's an update
of three of our recent
rescues.
Another update is that if everything works
out, all 20 of the recent Texas Bichons have
places to be fostered.
Thank you all with
your help on that!
It's summertime, and donations are slow to
come in, while Bichons are coming in at lightening
speed.
We always need help, but more so in the summertime.
Below is information
about how you can help
us to help them.
I think that's about
all for now.
All My Love, Robin
P.S. We're having a real heat wave here in
Tulsa, Oklahoma, like we haven't seen in
decades.
There have been more
days over 100 degrees
in June, than we
have in the last
three years
combined.
Outside, the temps are stifling as the afternoons
heat up to a steamy, oven-like existence,
but the mornings are still pleasant before
9 A.M.
I've been spending time out on my back porch,
where I am typing this to you now, enjoying
the magic of ordinary days, and being so
very thankful for all of the blessings we
have.
My dogs are all healthy.
Chipper 13 1/2, Spunky Monkey 12 1/2, and
Baby Reagan, one year, all had baths this
morning after their morning one mile hike
with their Dad.
How happy they are after looking like they
just emerged from the fish pond, still damp,
and needing to be brushed out as they air
dry.
Dale and I are healthy
and happy.
What more could a blonde woman from Oklahoma
ask for?

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
