Bichons For Adoption By Nationwide Click Here

Thursday Evening January 13, 2011

Gem of the Day: "When I go home, I play with my baby dolls and strollers and stuffed animals, pretend like they're real dogs."

~Dakota Fanning, Child Actress ~

These are two precious dogs that we have in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
They are a bonded pair and can't be separated. And yes, they are kid friendly!

Their mother is a Bichon and the reason we know this is because Bonnie Ferguson and I delivered them on January 4, 2008, at our Tulsa vet clinic.
They just turned three years old. Their Mom came into rescue already "in the family way".

They looked like little Holstein cows by the way they were marked, so we called them "The Hosteins."

We believe the father was a Shih Tzu, which is also a non-shedding breed.
They do not shed!

The family that adopted them returned them to us due to financial changes in their home. They truly are darling dogs and love everybody and would love to be with children, as they had children in their first home. They have been together since birth and must be adopted together.

Being a bonded pair the adoption fee is "Two for One" ($150)

Six year old Angel had her bladder stones and her spleen removed last week. Though the surgeon said the mass on her spleen looked "highly suspicious", pathology reports came back clean. No cancer!

The bill for her surgery and post op care was $3,124.35 and we were able to raise about half of that.

Her foster Moms, Mary and Carol have issued this challenge for $200.00 to help us to pay the rest of her bill. This is in honor of one of our Team Leaders, Carrie Rogers who worked like a house afire ( southern saying meaning she worked hard and long!) to find the best price and an available surgeon for this little one! Thank you Mary and Carol, and thank you Carrie, for all you are doing for our girl!

Susan, please accept this $200 challenge for our first Small Paws foster, Angel, in honor of Carrie Rogers and all the hard work she does. Carol Miller and Mary Romeyn.>

We have been bombarded with Bichons coming into rescue. Bichons who were in danger of being euthanized at shelters. Bichons whose owners have passed away.

It is just overwhelming at times.

Sara Pace has taken 11 into her Team in the past 10 days. Each was about to be euthanized at a different shelter in either IN. or IL.

Each comes with a vet estimate of $500-600 dollars.

That's over $5000.00 just for these who include Miles, Teddy, Laurel, Harley, Chiquita, Dino, Pebbles, Bam Bam, Baxter and Sophie.

This is what Sara says:

I got a call from animal control in Chicago that they were going to euthanize a 4 yr old bichon male.
I put the leash on, his tail immediately went up and out we went!
As we were leaving his pavilion, they told me they had 2 other white dogs that were scheduled to be euthanized. The female approx. 7 yrs old was full bichon. The other was a 9 yr old bichon/shih-tzu mix (a supposed designer dog, a teddybear). I pulled all three. We named them Dino, Pebbles and BamBam.

It's January, the slowest month for not-for-profits.

For us, the need seems to be speeding up.

Don Rorschach picked up two Bichons today from the Arlington TX. shelter.

One of them has been hit by a car. We have them both at Cityview Vet in Fort Worth, accessing his injuries.

We need your help to be able to keep taking in these Bichons in need.

Below is information about how you can help. Thanks for supporting this effort. You are all life savers! All My Love, Robin

SPR's very own Mad Quilter made this beautiful set of Bichon quilts. One "human" size and one "fluff" size. Come to SPR's Ebay store for more pictures and details. These were made in honor of Chris Wierer, a Small Paws volunteer who was devoted to her Bichons and to the rescue cause. She will be missed.

I list new items as time allows so check back often. Please remember to leave SPR positive feedback on Ebay when the auction has ended to your satisfaction. Thank-you! Patti

Prayer Requests

(God loves you more than anyone else ever has,
and more than anyone else ever will!)

Subject: prayer request for my family
Date: 1/6/2011 11:01:35 P.M. Central Standard Time
From: auntcookierogers@hotmail.com

Hi Robin,
I wanted to ask you to send a special prayer request in your next letter, I don’t even know how to say it.

My husbands ex-wife (who I adore) has battled lymphoma for the last year, and she has fought bravely and elegantly. Today found out she has an extremely rare brain virus called PML, that basically eats the white matter of the brain, and she has less than 6 months to live. The diagnosing doctor says he has not seen a case of it in 5 years, and has sent a sample to 5 doctors for confirmation of his findings. He says if you think you see a unicorn, better ask someone else if they see it too.

I'm devastated and so is the entire family.

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
