Gem of the Day: Attention All Foster Parents and Dog Lovers!

This is about a FREE App for your phone, called Goodrx, which allows you to save HUGE amounts on meds for you or your dogs. It was also top rated by Consumer Reports. And it will save Small Paws money for their foster Bichons!!

It was also mentioned one of our local news stations this week.

This e-mail came to me from Dr. Hodges, our Veterinary Internist, here in Tulsa. Some of you heard him speak at the last Okie Bash.

Barbara McKelvy is using it for her Bichon, Henry's meds and she gives it a big thumbs up!

From Dr. Hodges:

Robin,

The discharge instructions should've summed it up pretty good. Not major changes in the gall bladder but enough to start on Ursodiol.

FYI, Ursodiol and some other meds that we call in to a "human" pharmacy can be quite pricey. We have discovered an App for the Iphone and Android) that prints coupons for significant savings on a lot of drugs. The app is "GoodRx". Download the app to your phone. Open the app and search for the drug, strength and quantity. It will give you prices at the local pharmacies, price with "membership" at the various pharmacies and price with coupon if there is one.
Example: Fluconazole 100 mg qty 30 at Walgreens was $250.00. With the app, it cost the client $35.00.

I think this could help all of Small Paws possibly save a lot of money.

Dr Hodges>

7 Year old "Bella" came into rescue with four large bladder stones, and two smaller stones. Her owner couldn't afford to have them removed. She needs our help, urgently. Please see the matching challenges for her below.

As you know, we have a darling little female Bichon who has four large bladder stones and to smaller ones, and she needs surgery.

Her vet records indicate she is 7 years old.

She was an owner surrender because they were on a fixed income and could not afford this surgery to remove her bladder stones.

If we can raise the needed $800.00 for her bladder stone surgery and her dental, (she REALLY needs a dental), it would be done by:

Dr. Jeffrey Phillips (859-734-2245)
Commonwealth Animal Hospital
1058 North College St.
Harrodsburg, KY 40330

This is from her Foster Mom, Kay Myers at kaymyers40@yahoo.com:

"I am not a medical person in any sense of the word, but when he put the X-rays up, I immediately saw 4 rather large stones and he pointed out 2 smaller ones also. I would like to schedule her as soon as we can for surgery to give her relief."

These are our matching donation challenges for little Bella!

First, from Kathryn Smith, one of our great Team Leaders, we have this challenge for $50.00. Thank you Kathryn!

We had him for the last five years, He is very obedient normally when we say "stay" he will stop wherever he is, so some times we are used to play with him in the yard for he loves to run around the yard in circles, during that time we did not put him on the leash, this particular day he was not on leash and did not yield to the command when he saw some dog across the road. It took off so suddenly the on coming driver did not have time to stop the car. That is how it happened.>

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
