Gem of the Day: One of us has died.
Marian Elizabeth Steele, 50, of Culloden,
passed away
Saturday, November
27, 2010, at her
home.
She was born in Charleston
and was an employee
of TRG.
She was preceded
in death by her parents,
Marion Ronald and
Myrtle Rutledge.
Surviving is her
son, Ronald Coyner
and his
wife Suzan of Mechanicsburg,
Pa.
Last night, SPR paid $17, 153.63 for vet
bills for just one one week.
Dear Small Pawsers,
Welcome to our newest members of our Small Paws® Rescue Online Newsletter, especially to those of
you who have seen us on Fox and Friends in New York City, or on Animal Planet on "Dogs 101."
Welcome! We hope you enjoy reading about
the Bichons and the people who love them!
If you missed our last newsletter, here it
is.
Small Paws has lost a friend and loyal volunteer.
Marian Steel was a wonderful SPR volunteer
for many years.
She died leaving three of her own personal
Bichons homeless, as well as three of our
foster dogs.
Many hanks to Small Pawser, Debra Graham,
debra.graham@wvlegislature.gov, who physically
picked these dogs up from the shelter where
they were taken after Marian's body was discovered.
Debra then moved them into a boarding facility.
She has continued to take them to the vet
when they need it, but she has no room to
house them.
Initial vetting for exams, shots, etc, was
$789.00. Boarding is going to be $1500.00
a month if we can't find foster homes now.
Of course, wouldn't you know it, after being
in a small county shelter, some of them came
down with kennel cough and had to be treated
for that. They are healthy now and ready
to go to foster homes.
We are hoping we don't have to pay airfare,
$175.00, in order to get them to foster homes.
We have a new volunteer who is willing to
drive them to some foster homes.
Some of Marian's dogs have masses growing
and other medical issues and need over $4000.00
in veterinary care, still yet before they
can be adopted.
We need to raise those funds. I know. I know.
It's overwhelming.
Joanne Raus, our Team Leader for that area,
sent his out to her team last night.
Is there anyone near this area (West Virginia)
who can possibly foster one or more of these
little ones?
Please email Joanne
Raus if you can help
at neteamleader@joanneraus.com. .
Subject: Foster homes needed for WV bichons
Sugie, Belle, Shea, Felicity, Baby and Abby!

To all Northeast
and Mid-Atlantic
volunteers:
A few weeks ago we lost one of our volunteers
who not only was a super foster mom but a
genuinely nice lady. Two years ago her family
dynamics and financial situation changed
and her life fell apart. She managed to get
through the difficult time and survived the
hardship. She died suddenly leaving six bichons,
three of which were our fosters. I will miss
her!
So, we have the following bichons who need
our help. They are currently in boarding
and they told us they would love for Santa
to take them to a foster home for Christmas.
I hope to make their dreams come true only
if some of you can help me make it happen!
So Dasher Dancer Prancer Vixen Comet Cupid
Donner Blitzen and Rudolf, .let's get Santa's
sled ready! Alas! we may have someone to
get them to you!! We have signed on a new
volunteer this very day, named Mary Beth
Price who takes a trip via West VA to New
York during the holiday season. We may have
transportation to you if you can foster one.
Do you think I am a little excited!! You
betcha!
Here are the dogs
with a little description.
This is all I have
at this time about them.
Please meet WV Sugie, WV Belle, WV Shea(our
only boy), WV Felicity, WV Baby and WV Abby!
They all needed to be shaved but I promise
they are all handsome bichons once their
coats grow in.

WV Sugie - very sweet and friendly. Asks
for attention

WV Belle sweet, but very shy. A runner if
she gets loose.

WV Shea- the only male. sweet, but very shy.

W.V Felicity -very friendly. Loves to have
her belly rubbed.
Will paw at you for
attention.

WV Baby- very small and very sweet. Loves
attention - raises her paw
asking for it. Cute ears that stand up individually
at times.
WV Abby - sweet, but very shy.
Goes to the back
of the cage and scared when
you pick her up.
You may remember
a while back when
an animal
shelter in the area
burned. Rescuers
had
been in freezing
temps for many hours,
trying
to save the animals.
Marian Steele was the volunteer who went
to get supplies, food and hot drinks for
the other rescuers.
She fostered and
placed dozens of
Bichons
for Small Paws.
I would have let you know about this sooner
but it has taken
us (Thank God for
Debra
Graham) this long
just to gather them
up,
find a place for
them to be temporarily,
take then all to
the vet, and get
estimates
for their vetting
which comes to over
$4200.00.
Marian, rest in peace. You know we have them.
They are going to be ok. Small Pawsers who
never even met you are going to help us to
make sure they are ok, because we are family,
And that's just what families do. Especially
at this time of year. All My Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
