Gem of the Day: “Help others and give something
back. I guarantee you will discover that
while public service improves the lives and
the world around you, its greatest reward
is the enrichment and new meaning it will
bring your own life.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Last night, SPR paid $17, 153.63 for vet
bills for just one one week.

Mattie Marie
(From Robin: This is not bladder stones.
It is a mass pressing against the bladder)
The vet sees a mass on her bladder and she
needs surgery ASAP. The vet can get her in
Thursday. The estimate is $1500-$1800 depending
on what he finds, and he will give us a discount
as well. Scroll down to learn more.
This is a medical
emergency.
Dear Small Pawsers,
Welcome to our newest members of our Small Paws® Rescue Online Newsletter, especially to those of
you who have seen us on Fox and Friends in New York City, or on Animal Planet on "Dogs 101."
Welcome! We hope you enjoy reading about
the Bichons and the people who love them!
If you missed our last newsletter, here it
is.
First of all many thanks to everyone who
helped little Maria
Noel who's jaw was broken
when she was probably
hit by a car out in
Los Angeles.
Thanks to you, funds have now been wired
to Jeanine Curcione, and Maria Noel is doing
well after surgery! Thanks to everyone involved
in saving her life!
Now we have another
one in trouble. She is
dripping pure blood
from her urinary tract.
These are not the usual suspects, bladder
stones.
She has an actual mass on her bladder that
must be removed and now.
This is from our
Team Leader, Deb
Fayhe:

She is scheduled for surgery this Thursday,
that was the soonest that they could get
her in. The vet gave her Metacam for the
pain in the mean time.
Maddie Marie came to her foster home in MI
with Jane Collins in Oct. She is a one of
the dogs that came from TX. She arrived with
a UTI and crystals, which were treated. She
started having blood in her urine last week
and now she has it more often and is painful.
She has drops coming out even when she isn't
urinating. The vet sees a mass on her bladder
and she needs surgery ASAP. The vet can get
her in Thursday. The estimate is $1500-$1800
depending on what he finds, and he will give
us a discount as well.
Please let me know
if you need any further
info.

I am concerned about
Maddie. She is basically
peeing blood.
She is not able to
make it through the night
and she doesn't sound
good when she wakes
me up. It's like
a combination of barking
and crying. Her bowel
habits are changing
too and she is straining
to go. I'm very
worried about waiting
very long to treat
her.>
i know we just finished
with little Maria
Noel.
I know it's Christmas.
I know that we have
over 250 in rescue
right
now.
I know we paid over $17, 000.00 in vet bills
for one week, last night.
I also know my job
is to come and tell you,
the members of Small
Paws, about these Bichons
and their needs.
It's then up to you all
if you want us to
proceed.
I am willing to send out any challenges for
Maddie Marie.
Folks, please pray
for this one. I'm
concerned
for her.
Below are the instructions on how you can
help Maddie Marie to be out of pain and get
her much needed surgery. All My Love, Robin

Prayer request ,some bad news from Alaska
Hi wonderful Small Paws friends,
Our beloved Josephine (Josie) who passed
away today at 6:20 am in my arms. That's
one of the prices you pay for letting pets
come into your life.
Josie was 15 and the mate to one of our other
bichons, Bonaparte who passed in August 2009
. YIKES! Two of them gone in 18 months. HUGE
hole in our hearts tonight, but I guess
that you all know about holes in hearts .
LOL In a way, you play Cupid and match owners
to these babies needing to be rescued. We
should certainly have our heads examined
for having three seniors all at the same
time .
That leaves SPR Skippy, a 17 year old who
came to us as a foster over 6 years ago .
We flunked and adopted him and now he will
turn 18 next month!
He's mostly blind
and gets stuck in
corners
every now and then
but is so incredibly
happy
and loved and if
he can just sit and
lick
my hand all
night then his little
world is just wonderful
and he has a smile
on his face and you
know
he is in total peace.
We also have Savon
(aka SPR Douglas
Fairbanks
Jr.) who came to
us as a 12-week old
Missouri
puppy mill waif.
No doubt, the light
of our
lives now. He'll
turn 8 on March 13th.
He's got the energy
of a Jack Russell
terrier
and is always bouncing
off the walls even
though his legs are
both made up of plates
and pins and screws
due to ACL tendon
surgery
done
3 years ago (4 months
apart).
Anyway, one other
thing I'd like to
ask is
that if you'd put
me in your prayer
circle
Robin for some powerful
prayers.
I've recently been
hit with breast cancer
and since I have
MS as well, they
are reluctant
to start me on chemo
which is going to
make
my neuropathy much
worse.
It looks like after
the first of the
year,
they'll have to do
surgery and start
the
chemo anyway. Right
now they're trying
to
shrink my tumor with
a hormone, Femara.
It seems to be working somewhat . YAY! After
all this is done, it looks like I'm going
to have to step out of my job and become
one of the unemployed . UGH ,
not a choice I'd
like to make.
Hope you guys gets
all the funds that
you
need to pay your
bills and that you
have
a big trust fund
fall in your lap
in the
near future.
Have a very Merry
Christmas and safe
holiday
season.
We love you and all
you do for these
babies!

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
