Subject: Austin Pup had emergency--Pearl

Austin's Pearl
Christina picked this little girl up at the
shelter last night. She is 2-3 and is about
10#'s. She looks like she has had several
litters of pups and she has bad dermatitis
on her neck. They gave her the rabies shot
right before they left the shelter. They
got into the car and she immediately started
vomiting. Christina thought she just didn't
like car rides. It got worse and the poor
little girl was heaving. Then she started
to have diarrhea. And then both became bloody.
She took her to the emergency clinic. The
thought she was having a reaction to the
rabies shot. They started her on IV fluids
and gave her something for the vomiting.
Christina stayed for several hours, but they
decided Pearl needed to stay the rest of
the night.
Christina called me, but I didn't hear my
cell phone last night, so I didn't call her
until this morning. The bill is about $800.
Christina had just
picked her up and
was
taking her to Premier
when I called her.
She had finally stopped
vomiting, but they
wanted her to still
get IV fluids because
she doesn't want
to eat.
It is a good thing
we picked her up
because
if they had given
her the rabies and
put
her back in the pen,
she might have died
before someone noticed.

The clinic just called
and said she is doing
a little better.
She is eating small
amounts.
They are giving her
metronidazole for
the
bloody diarrhea and
she is still on IV
fluids.
I asked if she could
have Parvo, but the
tech said that her
symptoms were typical
for that and that
the doctors hadn't
mentioned
it. She said she
would asked them
about it.

Ok, so that vet bill
is continuing to rise
for the Pearl of
Austin.
I'm going to be bold and see if there is
anyone out there who can pay for maybe half
of Pearl's bill and maybe someone else can
cover the other half. I know it is a lot
to ask but if I were to tell you all that
happened today and how many Bichons are involved
you really would not be able to digest it
all. Trust me on this one!
The sky is falling, Chicken Little, and a
piece of it is hitting me on the head, over

From: bonnie@smallpawsrescue.org

Subject: Favor to

Hello all,
Please be praying
for Fuzzy. He was
titer
tested last week
for Rocky Mountain
Spotted
Fever.
Doc Maria said that
the lab she uses,
doesn't
record readings over
256. Fuzzy's titer
test
came back at 256.
A good titer reading
is
under 64.
I brought him in
to see Maria last
week because
he just woke up old
one morning. Yes,
I know
he is 14 but he just
seemed to age over
night.
Going from a playful
puppyish dog, to
an
old, arthritic dog.
Maria has seen an increase in cases of RMSF
this year and tested him for that along with
his other blood work. His other blood work
came back ok except for two results that
were a little high.
Even if you use Frontline,
the tick can bite
your dog before falling
off dead, from Frontline.
Fuzzy also has some
bacterial skin thing
going on which may
or may not be part
of
the RMSF. He's taking
an antibiotic for
that.
My concern with that
is his sensitive
tummy.
He's always had digestive
problems and I
just hope that taking
two drugs at the
same
time, doesn't upset
him. He's eating
really
well this week but
has lost almost two
pounds
in the last few months.
For a 13 pound dog,
that's a lot to lose.
This morning after
a nudge from Robin,
I
called the internist
we use for our dogs.
Dr. Hodges was kind
enough to talk to
me
without bringing
Fuzzy in.
He confirmed that
Maria is on the right
track
and said that he
wasn't concerned
about the
high platelet count
in this particular
case,
but would be more
concerned if the
count
was low.
I'll start Fuzzy
on the doxi tonight
and
have anti nausea
meds and Pepcid AC,
if the
meds upset his tummy.
Please be thinking
of us. I know you
all
know what I mean
when I say that Fuzzy
is
my heart dog.
Thanks
(God loves you more
than anyone else
ever
has,
and more than anyone
else ever will!)

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
