Gem of the Day: "Spend the afternoon.
You can't take it with you."
~Annie Dillard~

Two Year old "Tucker" is in Houston,
Texas. He needs vetting estimated at $915.49
and that's with a rescue discount. He has
heartworms and he has a very infected scrotum,
which is bleeding, and he's sick on top of
all that. Yipes.
This is urgent.
From the Vet:
"Tucker - 14.1#'s, he is heartworm positive
and needs to be neutered. He is about 2 years
old and very matted. He had diarrhea yesterday
due to clostridium, so there is an estimate
attached to the email for his treatment.
He is not neutered and his scrotum was bleeding
yesterday. It looks like he has urine scald
on his scrotum and it is infected therefore
he will need to have a scrotal ablation of
which we use the laser for and that cost
is in the estimate. He did receive an antibiotic
injection that lasts 2 weeks because it is
pretty bad. I have estimates for vaccines/treatment/heartworm
treatment and his neuter. We would like to
go ahead and take the x-rays and run the
blood work for the heartworm treatment and
before we place him under anesthesia, to
make sure he is ok.
Right now the scrotum is still actively bleeding.
You have to think of it as a burn because
the urine that he was sitting in where he
was before has burned the scrotal area and
when he sits down he is irritating the area
over and over. We have placed him on a soft
fuzzy blanket to reduce the irritation to
that area, but it would be a good idea to
remove the scrotum to prevent any more issues."

We got a little one in from a kill shelter
in South Texas last
week and he's in
trouble.

Meet Two Year old "Tucker"
Tucker's is sick, has heartworms, and has
a badly infected scrotum due to urine scalding.
(Sitting in his own urine at the shelter.)
It's pretty bad and they want to neuter him
due to the scalding issue. but because he
is heartworm positive and he has this infection,
this is going to require a bit more than
normal.
Tucker needs help
and I'm here to issue any
matching donation
challenges that come in
for him.
This is an urgent situation and it's happening
now.
Of course it is.
Dale and I are taking
a few days off from
August 18-24.
Donna Brown, (Daisy1027@aol.com), a member
of our Board of Trustees, is going to be
looking at my e-mail for emergencies part
of the time, and Joanne Raus, our National
Team Leader, (Joanneraus@hotmail.com) is
going to look at it some, too.
I will have my phone
with me, in case
there's
something that comes
up that needs my
attention.
Dale and I were supposed to do this for our
25th wedding anniversary, which was last
September 20, but there was just too much
going on for us to be able do it.
And now Tucker needs almost $1000.00 in vetting.
One thing I really can't do while I'm going
to be gone is raise funds to keep these Bichon's
vet bills going.
That's what is bothering me the most about
taking any time off. That they will be in
trouble.
These Bichon don't know I'm gone and their
illnesses and injuries keep on going.
I'm hoping that we can build up the vetting
account some to cover our vet bills while
I'm away.
A friend and her
husband are coming
to stay
here at our home
with our babies.
Baby Reagan needs his eye drops and then
I have this groundhog that expects to be
fed each evening out in the yard by the woods.
So our friends will be staying here with
our dogs, and to feed Gracie. Yes, that's
a whole other story that I'll tell you sometime.
(YES, I LOVE A GROUNDHOG. DON'T TELL ME IT'S
NUTS. I ALREADY KNOW IT'S NUTS!)
We have only Tuesday and Wednesday to raise
funds this week for Tucker and others like
him.
Is there anyone who
might be able to
issue
a matching donation
challenge for little
Tucker?

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
