Welcome! We hope you enjoy reading about
the Bichons and the people who love them!
If you missed our last newsletter, here it is.
We've been busy of course!
We still need foster homes for a few Bichons
who are in boarding in Texas and in MO.!
Several Bichons from the last newsletter
have been adopted. Thank you!
We still need a foster home for a few more,
including these.
One of them is Sally. (Sally the Bichon.
Not Sally Anne Pressnall, the Kansas Highway
Dog and attempted murderer of my groundhog,
Gracie, but I digress. For anyone who is
interested, I'm going to get another newsletter
out after this one about the latest antics
of Gracie the Groundhog!)

"Sally" Six Year Old Female
My name is Sally and I am a 6 year old girl
coming in at 16 #'s. I was turned into the
shelter by my owner. All my owner told the
shelter was my age, good with kids and I
had been spayed. I was picked up by a nice
lady from Small Paws and boy was I a stinky/dirty
mess. My hair was so matted and dirty so
the vet had to cut most of my coat off but
it is beginning to grow out so please excuse
my hair cut. I am a very sweet girl, walk
well on leash, HOUSETRAINED ( not a misprint)
and I will sit. When I get comfortable with
my surroundings then I am able to be at ease
and play. Once my coat grows out I will be
a very elegant girl. I am so ready to find
my forever home and give and receive love.
Please apply to be a much needed foster home
for Small Paws Rescue
Inc.

Another little one needing either a forever
home or a foster home is "Charlene". Charlene is finished with her quarantine
near the St. Louis area.
Charlene is 4 years old and was surrendered
to a kill shelter with another dog that was
adopted. She is very sweet and fully vetted.
She is fully recovered from her bladder stone
surgery and needs a foster home. Charlene
is shy but warms up quickly with her care
giver. She is a lover girl! She is looking
for someone to love and she should be adopted
quickly.
One of our rescues is down in Florida. She
now needs FHO surgery on her hip.
"Femoral Head
Ostectomy (FHO) is a surgical
procedure that removes
the femoral head and
neck from the femur.
FHO surgery is performed
to alleviate pain.
It is a salvage procedure,
reserved for condition
where pain can not
be alleviated in
any other way. It is common
in veterinary surgery.
"
It's little Daisy.
You may remember
her because
she had over 40 bladder
stones that we have
already removed.
This is a greatly reduced cost of $500.00.

Hi Robin, here is a quote from Jeannie Rothe’s
vet in Sarasota Florida.
It is the lowest
quote I have received.
Can we proceed or
do funds need to
be raised for Daisy?

Vickie-
I agree, based on these xrays, the right
appears worse, and an FHO will be the surgery
of choice to help Daisy. I will do it for
$500. Does that work?

So we need your help.
We really don't ask
for your help if we don't
need it.
We've been able to get by thanks to so many
who did so much over the Labor Day Weekend.
Thank you all for
that!
But now, these Bichons
are in need again.
After paying vet bills on Monday night, we
had only enough reserve funds to last through
yesterday at noon.

Now we need help!
We also had this
pair come in from
a shelter
in TN.
To Lori Foster, out
TN. Team Leader, THIS
WAS A GREAT SAVE!!
These babies were on the
verge of being euthanized.

Eight year old bonded pair, Rocko and Daisey
were in a kill shelter in TN.

Robin:
Small Breed Rescue
of TN let me know
that
there were two bichons
at a TN shelter.
I
called the shelter
and talked extensively
to an officer and
to a shelter groomer.
Said
that owner's husband
died and she is moving
and can't take the
dogs with her so
surrendered
them to the shelter.
She said that she
has
had them all her
life, great with
kids and
cats and made a nice
donation to the shelter.
Daisey is 8 yrs old, needs to lose wait,
(not misspelled. spam blockers won't let
us spell it correctly without flagging it)
very friendly, had a tumor removed but not
sent off, liver enzymes are elevated.
Rocko is 8 yrs old, needs to lose wait*,
friendly, may have had a torn ACL a year
or so ago and a vertebra compression in his
neck last year.
Both have now been groomed and up to date
on shots. Shelter groomer said there has
been no interest in the dogs and they are
a kill shelter and are full so they will
be put down. Shelter director will be back
in office on Tues and will decide who will
be put down.
Shelter is near Knoxville(other
side of state
from us) so I will
arrange to have a
volunteer
go to shelter on
Tues and assess them
and
pull them for SPR.
No fee charged for
rescue
groups.
Lori>
We need to get some funds in her to be able
to authorize surgeries and treatments for
these Bichons.
I will issue matching
challenges!

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
