Bichons For Adoption By Nationwide Click Here

Wednesday September 16, 2015

Gem of the Day: "Life is like a diamond in the rough, every cut or break only reveals more of the beauty and brilliance we all have waiting to expose."

Six year old Sophie came into us last night as an owner surrender. Her former owner could no longer afford her care. She has a torn ACL, horrendous teeth, two large bladder stones and a bad knee.

It's going to take $4500.00 to get her ready for adoption, and that's with our 25% rescue discount. Help is needed. We have matching challenges below for little Sophie.

Last night we took in a diamond in the rough, named Sophie.

Six year old Sophie came into us last night as an owner surrender. Her former owner could no longer afford her care. She has a torn ACL, horrendous teeth, two large bladder stones and a bad knee.

It's going to take $4500.00 just to get her ready for adoption, and that's with our 25% rescue discount. Help is needed. We have matching challenges below for little little Sophie.

This is what her owner surrender form said.

<Name of Bichon/BichonMix in need of rescue:: Sophie
Is this dog a Bichon or Bichon Mix?: Yes
Dog's age:: 6
Sex of dog:: Female
How much does this dog weigh?: 10-12 lbs
Where did you originally get this Bichon?: From my grandmother, who purchased her in North Carolina
Has this dog been Spayed or Neutered?: Yes
Can you tell us why this dogs needs to be rehomed?: We adore our dog Sophie but, she has cost us more than we can spend. We originally got her at age 1 from my grandmother who was moved to assisted living and unable to care for her. She recently had a torn acl that we could not afford to pay for the surgery and a hip that pops out of place sometimes, and a both knee caps. 4 weeks ago she was leaving large blood and urine puddles in our house so I took her to the vet. She has had a history of urinary tract infections, but now she has two large stones in her bladder that need to be surgically removed. She is currently on pain meds and we tried adding a mineral to her food to hopefully dissolve the stones with no luck. We are not financially able to care for her health needs. The doctor said she would continue to be in pain until the surgery is done. We do not want to have to put her to sleep because we can't afford what she needs and my sister who fosters many dogs, told me about this website and that you can find her a foster home and potentially care for her medical needs.
Housetrained?: yes, but since the bladder stones, she goes wherever.
Has this dog ever bitten?: no
Is this Bichon good with children?: extremely, loves to cuddle.>

Hello Robin: I would like to make a challenge for $150.00 to help pay for precious Cloud's medical bills. There is another fur baby coming in that needs our help.

My darling little Coleman had to be put to sleep in August 2012 due to the same problem. I still miss him everyday.

Prayer Requests and Reports

Subject: Please keep praying! Robin Faith is a very sick little girl
Date: 9/16/2015 12:19:41 P.M. Central Daylight Time
From: living_floor_mops@yahoo.com

Hi Robin! Sorry not to update before now. Robin Faith is now hospitalized at my regular vet clinic but will be transferred to the emergency vet after hours for overnight care, and then transferred back in the morning. There is no telling at this point how long she will have to be hospitalized.

She is suffering from another bout of pancreatitis but this time complicated by a blood sugar spike to over 700 and suspected cholangiohepatitis. Robin Faith has never before been diabetic or had difficulties with her blood sugar, and she may or may not continue to be diabetic after this episode. And her white blood count is over 4,000. So they've got her on IV antibiotics and are gradually administering insulin to get her blood sugar down.

At this point her prognosis is 60/40. A lot will depend on their ability to get her blood sugar regulated.

John will be with her this evening for her transfer to the emergency clinic and I will go see her when I get off at 9:30.

Thank you for your ongoing concern and prayers. It means a lot to me!

Love,
Bekye

>When these folks applied to adopt, and we asked how their Bichon was killed by a car, this was their response. We hear this on an average of once a week.

(These are NOT Bichons adopted from Small Paws.)

PLEASE don't take a chance with the life of your Bichon!
We do not adopt to people who allow their dogs to run loose.

We had him for the last five years, He is very obedient normally when we say "stay" he will stop wherever he is, so some times we are used to play with him in the yard for he loves to run around the yard in circles, during that time we did not put him on the leash, this particular day he was not on leash and did not yield to the command when he saw some dog across the road. It took off so suddenly the on coming driver did not have time to stop the car. That is how it happened.>

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
