Gem Of The Day: "Well, it's a marvelous
night for a Moondance
With the stars up

A fantabulous night
to make romance

Remember little Bijoux whose tail was chopped
of at the shelter
and left in horrible condition?
Graphic Warning.
Click here if you want to see who bad it
was when we first rescued little Bijoux.
Now, thanks to you, Bijoux is ready to be
adopted!

Bijoux is a 6 year old female bichon who
was an owner turn
in to a kill shelter.
She
had skin allergies
which is presumably
why
the "vet"
at the kill shelter
cut
off her tail.
Her skin is all healed
and her hair is growing
back very nicely.
Sadly, the same can't
be
said for her tail,
but what's left,
has at
least healed.
She is really into human bonding, so she
would be fine as an only dog.
Bijoux is being fostered
in Illinois.

This is a special Saturday edition of the
Small Paws® Rescue Online Newsletter.
We have some last
minute matching donation
challenges, as well
as a couple of Bichons
needing foster or
forever homes!
First, we have these matching challenges!
From Deb Snider in
Norman, Oklahoma, we have
this challenge which
she will meet up to
$600.00! Thank you
Deb!

Subject: Matching
challenge for Daisy
Robin, if you are
still able to issue
another
matching challenge
for Daisy, I offer
this.
I’ve borrowed the
chorus from a song
by Tim
Lovell (with his
permission, in support
of
Small Paws Rescue).Tim
is an amazing songwriter/artist.
To help meet our
need for Daisy’s
ortho surgery,
and her other associated
expenses coming
into rescue. I know
from experience that
initial exams and
x-rays, wellness
tests/vaccinations/preventative
treatments, and boarding,
far exceed the
surgical cost.
I’m relying on Tim’s
inspiring words,
and
asking for six folks
who could contribute
$100 to Daisy, for
each line of the
“Little
Things” chorus. Or
from many, in any
amount.
I will match each,
up to a total of
$600.
Thank you, Small
Pawsers. We can get
this
done, for Daisy.
You send little things
to remind me that
you love me
Little things, to
let me know you’re
near
little things I take
for granted
are the very things
that show how much
you care.

And from Hawaii, we have sad news. And a
challenge in little FuzzyBear's Memory. Suzie,
we are so very sorry.

Robin, Suzie in Hawaii
(funteam@hotmail.com
) called me last
night. She lost her
little
FuzzyBear on September
11th, after a valiant
several month long
battle.

During the next year Suzie will be donating
$1,000 in Fuzzy’s
memory and would like to
begin with a $100
challenge to help Daisy
get the surgery she
needs.>
So those are our
challenges! Thanks to all
who issued them and
to anyone who can answer
one of them!
Next, remember little Bijoux whose tail was

condition?

Well, now, thanks
to you, she is ready

Bijoux's Story:
Bijoux is a 6 year old female bichon who
was an owner turn in to a kill shelter. She
had skin allergies which is presumably why
the "vet" at the kill shelter cut
off her tail.
Her skin is all healed
and her hair is growing
back very nicely.
Sadly, the same can't
be
said for her tail,
but what's left,
has at
least healed.
She comes in at about 15 #'s. She has a very
small frame as you can see from her pictures).
Bijoux is a very
sweet girl who loves to
cuddle with you on
the couch, play with stuffed
toys, and go for
long walks.
She has a face you'll fall in love with immediately
and she really wants to please and be loved
- you won't regret opening your heart and
home to this little girl who's looking for
a forever home to call her own. Bijoux is
done with her antibiotics and is currently
on meds for her resolving skin issues. She
gets a special bath with allergy shampoo
until her skin is completely healed, but
she is doing great.
Bijoux is being fostered
in Illinois.
If you would like to adopt little Bijoux,

Next, we need a foster or forever home for
a little Bichon named Ava, who has Cushing's Disease which is controlled with medication. If
she goes to a foster home SPR will pay for
her medications monthly, which run about
$40.00.
This is more about
Ava. She's at the
vet's
office and really
needs a foster home.
As her Cushing's
becomes more regulated
she
will become smaller.
There is no lay person on the planet who
knows more about Cushing's Disease that Cathy
Dirlam at CMDirlam@aol.com. She has offered
to be an advisor to any of our SPR foster
parent's with Bichons with Cushing's Disease.
Thank you Cathy!
From Sara Pace:

Meet 5-6 yr old Ava! Ava was dumped at animal
control matted, urine and stool stained,
lethargic and extremely uh, er, "fluffy".
She was on the list to be euthanized! She
looked up at me with her sad brown eyes and
I promised her, she would not have to stay
in that awful place any longer. Ava was taken
immediately to the animal hospital, she was
shaved, treated with antibiotics and spayed
(thanks Small Paws!) The dogtor did tests
and found that she has "Cushings Disease"
were she produces to much adrenal hormone.
Ava has been on meds for her Cushings Disease
and is a different fluff. She has dropped
1.5 #'s. She is on a special dog food. She
is happy and LOVES to play with her foster
siblings, yes, she can even chase them! She
is very vocal when she has to go potty and
will bark to tell you. She has a hard time
going up and down stairs but is improving
as she continues to become svelte. She loves
to go for walks. Ava could also be your only
dog. She is a great companion and just wants
someone to call her own. Ava had not been
observed with small children but does great
with kids 10 or older. Ava currently comes
in at 27#'s and is still reducing. She is
up to date on vaccinations, spayed, dental
has been done and is doing well on her meds.
Her meds are around $40 per month. This picture
is Ava shaved and SMILING!
She needs a foster home!

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
