Welcome! We hope
you enjoy reading
about
the Bichons and the
people who love them!
If you missed our last newsletter, here it
is.
When it rains it pours. Literally.
Folks, we have flat been busy here at Small
Paws Rescue.
That's why you all
haven't heard from me
for a few days.
We've been putting
out fires and swooping
up Bichons. Some
of them were involved in
the recent flooding
situations in Arkansas
and MO.
We have now accounted for our Alabama Team
Leader, volunteers and foster Bichons, although
we don't know if Sue Bosco, our AL. Team
Leader, even has power back on yet.
Bichons are coming at us in droves, and yesterday
we got seven owner surrender forms from a
shelter and a vet's office, in MO., alone.
Last Monday night was the highest for one
week's worth of vet bills that I can remember,
almost $20,000.00 for one week, and no I
am not kidding.
See Vet Bills Paid by Small Paws Rescue for
the first 2 days
of May, 2011, totalling
$19,828.56.
We got this desperate email about a Bichon
who had been displaced by flooding in Arkansas.
Flooding Victim
"We are in a desperate situation here
in central Arkansas - tornadoes and now flooding
have left many families uprooted or homeless.
Our shelter here in Arkansas is over-run
with lost, abandoned and surrendered dogs
as a result of all the storms. They will
have to begin putting dogs down in the morning
if relief does not come. It's heartbreaking,
it really is.
A Bichon was surrendered earlier today and
is not coping well at all - anxious, barking
non-stop and keeping the other dogs upset
at this point. I know very little about this
dog, don't even know it's sex. I'm hoping
you can please, please find a place for this
poor Bichon.
My name is XXXX. My cell is 501-xxx-xxxx,
but email may be the best way to reach me.
Here is the information for our shelter:
They work with rescues groups and would be
grateful for some help. I'm just a dog lover
and concerned citizen, and my heart is breaking
for my community.
Thank you for listening
and caring."
We now have this Bichon in custody now, safe,
sound and dry, thanks to our Arkansas Team
Leader, Cheri Sisco. She got right on it,
of course.
Then, this is one
of the owner surrender
forms for FIVE Bichons
who are out of time
in a shelter in MO.
These are not dogs who MAY be taken to a
shelter, but dogs who are IN the shelter
now, and are out of time.
This is the kind of thing that we save our
spaces for. We are the last line of defense.
The vet bills for
these five puppy mill survivors
will run right at
$3000.00.
We do not have those funds in our checking
account at this time.
We need your help.
We also need help in transporting these five
little ones from near St. Peter's MO. to
near Peoria IL.

Hi Robin, Bonnie
and Team,
I have a couple prayer requests. Debbie Perrotti,
(with permission) a IL volunteer was diagnosed
with Leukemia. She has been doing chemotherapy
(oral medication). The prognosis is good
and we are hoping for remission. She is a
wonderful woman and great asset to SPR. She
is currently fostering Coco. The Perrotti's
fostered and adopted Dolly, who passed last
year. I spoke to her the other day and her
white count is better. Please keep her and
her family in your prayers.
Becky Rednour, another amazing woman and
volunteer is in the midst of flooding. She
is in Cairo, IL where they are evacuating
everyone. Becky is Sally's foster mommy and
adopted Sugarman last year. They are trying
to stay in their home and have moved everything
to the upper levels. If the levy breaks and
it floods they could loose everything.
I am also sending
this to them and
the team,
so if they need anything,
they know, all
they have to do is
email or call.
All my love to you
both (Becky/Jerry
and
Debbie/Jimmy!

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
