Gem of the Day: "Love anything, and
your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly
be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping
it intact, you must give your heart to no
one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully
round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid
all entanglements; lock it up safe in the
casket or coffin. But in that casket, safe,
dark, motionless, airless, it will change.
It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable,
impenetrable, irredeemable."

I don't know what exactly is going on, but
owner surrendered Bichons are falling from
the skies all across the country.
Since last Sunday we have had SEVERAL owner
surrender forms come in, including one who
is for a licensed Therapy Dog.
I'm going to tell you about a few of them.
Look at the various reasons for their surrenders.
Without your help we can't continue to take
Bichons like these in.

Ozzy
1. Your City and State?: Alpharetta, GA
Name of Bichon/BichonMix in need of rescue::
Ozzy
Is this dog a Bichon
or Bichon Mix?: Yes
Dog's age:: 9
Sex of dog:: Male
How much does this
dog weigh?: 14 pounds
Where did you originally
get this Bichon?:
A breeder in Helen,
GA
Has this dog been
Spayed or Neutered?:
Yes
Can you tell us why
this dogs needs to
be
rehomed?: Our lifestyle
has changed dramatically
since getting Ozzy
as a puppy 9 years
ago.
My children are grown
and either away from
home or busy with
school activities.
Both
my husband and I
work full-time and
travel
for work so we do
not spend enough
time with
Ozzy or need to board
him frequently. I
feel
that Ozzy deserves
more time with people
which we can no longer
give him. >

Pete
2. Your City and State?: Hillsboro Beach,
FL

Name of Bichon/BichonMix in need of rescue::
Logan
Is this dog a Bichon

Bischon/Shitzhu
Dog's age:: 8 yrs old
Sex of dog:: Male
How much does this
dog weigh?: 24 lbs
Where did you originally
get this Bichon?:
Supposed breeder
in North mo
Has this dog been
Spayed or Neutered?:
Yes
Can you tell us why
this dogs needs to
be
rehomed?: Logan climbs
the fence outside
like a cat and is
gone, running the
neighborhood
for hours at a time.
He also urinates
in
the house. I have
tried belly bands
and using
a spray to neutralize
the odor. I am in
the
process of selling
my house to move
to an
apartment and do
not want to take
him with
me to take the chance
of ruining the carpet
there as well.
His good points, he is very lovable and good
natured. Loves to sit on your lap and snuggle.
(I'm currently working with Logan's owner
to try to find pet friendly housing in her
area that she can afford for Logan and his
Brother, Kota. See below. But the odds are
that we will need to take them.)

Kota
4. Your City and State?: blue springs, mo
Name of Bichon/BichonMix in need of rescue::
Kota
Is this dog a Bichon
or Bichon Mix?: Yes
Bichon/Shitzhu
Dog's age:: 8 years old
Sex of dog:: Male
How much does this
dog weigh?: 24 lbs
Where did you originally get this Bichon?:
breeder in north Missouri
Has this dog been

Yes
Can you tell us why

out a surrender form for
his brother, Logan
because he climbs the
fence and I am trying
to sell my home and
move into an apartment.
Kota is Logans brother
and I would love
to see them go together
if possible. Kota
has arthritis in his back
legs that makes him
slower than Logan, but
he gets around fine
otherwise. He is a lapdog
and loveable. He
is not on medication for
his legs, and has
had all his shots on a
regular basis. (I'm currently working with Logan's owner
to try to find pet friendly housing in her
area that she can afford for Logan and his
Brother, Logan. See above. But the odds are
that we will need to take them.)

"It's a Beautiful Morning in Paris"
is a Registered Therapy Dog.
5. Your City and State?: Florence, Oregon
Name of Bichon/BichonMix in need of rescue::
Paris
Is this dog a Bichon
or Bichon Mix?: Yes
Dog's age:: 7
Sex of dog:: Female
How much does this dog weigh?: 12#
Where did you originally
get this Bichon?:
We bought her in
Boise as a 2 yr.
old.
Has this dog been
Spayed or Neutered?:
Yes
Can you tell us why this dogs needs to be
rehomed?: Paris is a loving, quiet lap dog.
She has helped me through some hard times.
We love her very much. But my husband recently
retired. We moved last September. Now we
are ready to travel. We hike, fish &
cycle. Paris enjoys none of those. Our other
dog is Rascal, a 7 yr. old Papillion. He
hikes & cycles with us. She is quite
content to just sleep in the sun or go for
a walk. She hates to wear sweaters. (I think
she is ticklish) Her shots are up to date
at the Vet. She was groomed recently at Aloha.
She is a Registered Therapy Dog. We just
bought a travel trailer and will be leaving
soon. I had hoped to find a forever home
for her. I hope that you will be able to
help us with that. She has a special gift
to give the person that she loves. Whoever
takes Paris will have a lifetime, loyal companion.

April
6. Name of Bichon/BichonMix in need of rescue::
April
Is this dog a Bichon
or Bichon Mix?: Yes
Dog's age:: 7
Sex of dog:: Female
How much does this
dog weigh?: 20
Where did you originally
get this Bichon?:
Petstore
Has this dog been
Spayed or Neutered?:
Yes
Can you tell us why this dogs needs to be
rehomed?: I am a displaced unemployed worker
and need your desperate assistance. I was
diagnosed with HIV and have been unable to
care for my 7 year old bischon/bolognese
which needs medical and grooming upkeep.
She recently had a urinary infection and
I have run out of medicine and cannot afford
to take her to the vet. I really need to
put her up for adoption with someone who
can afford to take care of her. Please let
me know if there is someone who can help
in the Columbus Ohio area. I currently live
near the airport and I really don't want
to take her to the pound. I appreciate your
time and hope you get this email.
And this isn't even
all of them.
We have four matching
challenge donations.
Two were from last week and were not met,
so I'm going to issue them again in hopes
that someone can meet all of part of one
or both of them.
From our friend in Texas, Mike Bush, we have
this challenge for $1000.00 which may be
met in any amounts! Thank you again, Mike!<

Hi Robin,
First, great good
news that Chipper's
home
and mending. Everyday
is a blessing.\
Yesterday we celebrated
Bungee's birthday.
SPR's first heart
repair baby is now
13 years
old.
Please issue a $50
challenge to help
the
Texas fluffs. I want
them to have a chance
to make someone's
life as happy as
Bungee
has made mine. Love,
S
So these are our
challenges.
We were able to get
our operating budget
up to zero this week,
which is an improvement
from last week, thanks
to you.
But now we need to
get it up to a place
where
we can operate, and
help dogs like Paris,
Logan, Ozzy, Kota,
April, and Pete.
It's overwhelming at times, but with your
help, we can DO this!

Would you please
ask the SPR family
for their
prayers that my fluff
Snow be returned
to
me? My family gave
her away (without

or permission) while
I was in a nursing
home
recovering from a

Please tell everyone
thank you from Snow

Hello,
I received a call
from Nancy this morning.
Aly is coming home.
She stabilized yesterday
and her labs have
maintained a level
that
will allow her to
come home this afternoon.
The best news is
that there is no
sign of
cancer in the biopsied
tissue. She still
is in recovery and
it will be a week
or two
before she is semi
healthy but she is
going
home today.
Nancy thanks you
for your prayers
and concern.
The vet thinks it was either an infection
or an she has developed a food allergy. I
don't think they really know what it is,
but the antibiotics and food change are the
start of trying to treat the symptoms. Yay!
Best,

We had him for the last five years, He is
very obedient normally when we say "stay"
he will stop wherever he is, so some times
we are used to play with him in the yard
for he loves to run around the yard in circles,
during that time we did not put him on the
leash, this particular day he was not on
leash and did not yield to the command when
he saw some dog across the road. It took
off so suddenly the on coming driver did
not have time to stop the car. That is how
it happened.>
 Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought
it was truly the epitome of what we do, and
why we do it. I wanted to use this black
and white picture of Humphrey, taken only
days before his death due to congestive heart
failure, to let those who may be new to Small
Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known
love. He would have died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
