If you missed our last newsletter, here it is
We have THREE heartworm positive Bichons
in rescue right now, in South Texas.
Sindy Parsons (sindy@sindyparsons.com) and
Christina Waterman, our South Texas Team
Leaders, have been busy.
We've recently rescued
five Bichons from
local shelters in
their area, and wouldn't
you know it, three
of them are heartworm
positive, and that
may go up to five.
We are testing the
other two today.
Juno, Samson, and Zeke, all have heartworm disease.
(If you are brave, click here to see heartworms
in the heart of a dog. Yes, left untreated
they are fatal, as in stone cold dead.)
Where is Heartworm Disease?
The estimate for heartworm treatment in this
area is right around $500.00 each.
That's $1500.00 needed
just for heartworm
treatment alone.
This doesn't cover vaccinations, spay/neuter,
or dentals or the FHO surgery that one of them will need.
This is an update

Subject: Update on Sam and Zek
Date: 6/18/2011 11:09:44
A.M. Central Daylight
Time
From: sindy@sindyparsons.com

Samson is 12 and is heartworm positive.
Spoke with both Drs. Wil and Jen yesterday.
Tested Sam’s eyes for dry eye which he has
and will begin a drop treatment on Tuesday
which will be a lifelong treatment for chronic
condition. He has green stuff in both eyes
and could not get it to clear so was determined
he might have dry eye—no tears that would
cause him to pick up infection more easily.
Want his eyes clear before he leaves for
foster. He will begin HW treatment on Mon.
Waiting now for estimate. Each time he is
bathed coat looks better. Next time we will
round his ears. Attaching picture from yesterday.
He is a very sweet mature guy and walks better
each time being more comfortable to move
forward. Trying to find a good foster where
he can complete HW treatment. One that likes
the mature pups and give him lots of love
for the remainder of his days.
Zek: blood count
is up to 29 so they
feel
he is ready for neuter
and hip/leg surgery.
Next Tuesday. He
uses that leg about
70%
of the time then
lifts due to pain
from the
hip ball rubbing.
Once he is ready
we will
begin the therapy
under the direction
of
Dr. Wil to strengthen
that leg and help
to
heal . Then he will
be ready for HW treatment
also. No dental—he
has the whitest teeth—gained
some weight. He was
so frail and sickly
when
we brought him in.
He is going to have
a
nice white coat as
it is growing out.

Just these three are going to cost between
$3500-4200.00.
And there are many
others.

We just got this picture last night, of either
a Bichon, or a Bichon-a-wanna-be, outside
in the heat at an Arkansas shelter.
We are working today,
on getting both of
these dogs into rescue.
It only takes time and money.
Time, we can supply.
Money, is where we need your help.
Summer is here.
Bichons are showing
up in shelters all
across
the country.
We are there as the
last resort, after
all
other options have
been exhausted.
If we go into a shelter to get a Bichon,
it's because it's either ill, injured, out
in the heat or cold, or about to assume room
temperature, without us.
This is the work
you support.
We are giving it our all, but we can't do
it without you.
Below is how you
can help us to help
them.
I will issue all matching challenges for
the "Dog Days of Summer." challenge.
It;s a short week
for me as I will
be travelling
to Valparasio IN.
on Friday, for this
weekend's
bash, hosted by our
Team Leader, Sara
Pace,
and Small Pawser,
Rae Steeb.
We have only today,
Wednesday and Thursday
to help these guys.
They are falling from the skies, and they
have heartworms.
All My Love, Robin

>Robin, We are requesting prayers for
Stanley, our SPR rescue from a kill shelter
in Shelbyville,TN several years ago. This
dog sleeps with me. Today, at a campground
near our house, he was eating some grass.
I had him on a leash. I pulled him away from
the grass, and a few minutes later he was
rubbing his face in the dirt. I fussed at
him, brushed the rocks and dirt out of his
face and a few seconds later he was doing
it again. Then I noticed the fishing line
hanging out of his mouth. I looked inside
his mouth--and it was going down his throat.
I knew better than to pull on it, so we ran
to the vet. X-ray showed no hook, THANK GOD!!But
the line was tight. In surgery the line had
moved into the small bowel; it was attached,
by a knot, to a clump of grass. Mike had
never seen anything like it before. But Stan
had to have major surgery because someone
threw a piece of fishing line in the grass.
He will be hospitalized for 3 days. We were
fortunate. I told Mike I was terrified. He
said he was really worried, too. It is bad
enough; it could have been much worse. I
feel so guilty!!
So, we are requesting
prayers. But also
send
a warning. Don't
take your dogs where
people
fish!!

Hi Robin,
How are you? Just
a short catch up
time.
My last communication
with you was when
my
husband was very
ill with Esophageal
Cancer
in '09. It was complicated
with undiagnosed
Celiac Disease, and
he was near death
until
blood test showed
Celiac. Once on Gluten
Free diet, he has
recovered nicely,
Cancer
free now and all
of these with the
help of
prayers from everyone,
you included. We're
starting to recover
also financially
as he
was out of work for
a year.
So on today's auction, I bid over $300 for
the Pet stair, 3 steps and I won!! Our small
way of showing support to your organization,
you are near and dear to our hearts. Kerrie
or SPR dog is now 7, well behaved and is
just adorable. Our other 2 Bichon's are equally
beautiful, giving us loads of happiness.
Dave ( hubby) is
an example of one
of God's
miracles. He gave
a us a 2nd chance
in life.
Thank you for what
you do,
Sincerely,

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
