If you missed our last newsletter, here it is
We have a medical emergency happening near
Ft. Worth TX, RIGHT NOW.
This concerns a little
eight year old female
who was surrendered
by her elderly owner,
last evening, to
their vet's office.
They were there with her, actually preparing
to make the decision to euthanize her when
her vet looked us up, online.
You see, they are
around 90 years old, and
can no longer care
for Abby, who is urinating
blood.
I just now heard back from the vet and this
little girl needs emergency surgery, today
and the cost would be $750.00.
I want to show you some of the correspondence
that took place yesterday afternoon around
5:00 P.M.
THIS is why we are
here.
Without us this little girl would have been
put to sleep.
First, the couple's son wrote to us through the
website:

"My parents are 88 and 89 years old
and have a Bichon that has a bladder infection.
They have taken her to the vet for treatment,
but have determined that they can no longer
care for her and are considering giving her
up. They live in Granbury Tx which is close
to Ft Worth Tx. They love the little dog,
but feel they are too fragile themselves
to care for the dog. Do you have any suggestions?">
I answered.

Yes. They are competent to make the decision.
They are both at the point when something
like this they feel it not in the best interest
of the dog. this has been their baby for
years and they want a good place for her.
I have had very good experience with the
lab rescue and know you and your organization
are really good at your jobs.>
Then, as this was all happening, we got this
is from their veterinarian. It was also submitted
to us through our website. This was becoming
most urgent. I called the vet immediately.

I have a 90 yro client who has a Bichon Frise
whom has recently developed a urinary tract
infection. We performed a urinalysis and
culture/sensitivity and started the pet on
antibiotics. The client has been giving antibiotics
for 1 week, but has to fight the dog to do
this. The pet has had stones in the past
and surgery to remove them. The client is
frustrated that he is unable to properly
care for this pet anymore and asked that
we place her in a new home or euthanize.
I wanted to know if your rescue would adopt
a dog with a medical problem. If so please
contact me, preferably by phone (817)xxx-xxxx."
I asked the vet to
please print our owner
transfer form that
I was e-mailing to her,
and RUN to take it
into them RIGHT NOW so
they didn't have
to go through another single
moment of thinking
they were going to have
to euthanize her.
I can not imagine the pain they were going
through, losing their baby as it was, much
less having to make that final decision,
over a bladder stone.
The vet just now called me and x-rays showed
a huge single bladder stone taking up most
of this Bichon's bladder. :(
She is "urinating pure blood" and
they need to remove this stone now, as this
has become a medical emergency.
The first price that
they gave me was
for
almost $1100.00.
I told then we would need to pick her up
( the Bichon, not the vet) and move her to
another of our vets in the area who gives
us a 50% rescue discount, and will do this
same surgery for around $750.00.
She said she would
match this as long as
the dog could get
surgery today.
I don't have a picture.
I only have a name
and an age.

We gonna have to use our 'maginations.
"Abby" is eight years old.

This is what one of these large bladder stones
looks like. A Bichon's empty bladder is about
the size of a walnut.
She needs surgery now.
Is there anyone who
can help us to help
little
Abby?
We don't have time
to do matching challenges.
This is a medical emergency now.
If you can help, below are instructions on
how to do that.
Also, please don't forget to visit our
Small Paws Rescue Spring Online Auction.
Last Spring we made around $12, 650.00 and
so far, we are way
below that. Help!
All My Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
