Bichons For Adoption By Nationwide Click Here

Gem of the Day:"The plain fact is that human beings are happy only when they are
striving for something worthwhile."
~Author Unknown~

Remember little Jingles is the Bichon who had been hit by a car and also had bite marks on him as if something had attacked him. Here he is after surgery. His tail had to be amputated. But he is going to make it and he is a little LOVE!

Robin, Here he is after his surgery. He's sleeping peacefully and without pain
(I want some of whatever he's taking..lol).

They said his tail WAS rotten, poor boy, can't imagine the pain he must have been in. It won't be the only thing he finds missing when he wakes up!

If you look at his little tail stump, they were able to save some of his tail, at least. Look at those beautiful halos around his eyes, makes me wanna pet him.
What a sweet little boy.

Dear Small Pawsers,

Welcome to our newest members of our Small Paws® Rescue Online Newsletter, especially to those of you who have seen us on Fox and Friends in New York City, or on Animal Planet on "Dogs 101."

Welcome! We hope you enjoy reading about the Bichons and the people who love them!

If you missed our last newsletter, here it is

As you know, our next big medical emergency is little Furby's heart. He was found as a stray with a grade 5/6 PDA heart murmur.

This means he was born with a hole in his heart. Usually, this closes when mammals take their first breaths. Furby's did not.

Now his heart has to work much harder to pump the blood because there is a hole, a leak. All of that extra work, makes the heart enlarged and there is only so much room in a little Bichon's chest. That's the problem. And Furby's heart is already pretty enlarged!

Baby Furby is about 9 months old and he is presently being fostered with one of our Ohio Team Leaders, Sharon King, near Worthington Ohio.

We have done this same PDA heart murmur repair surgery many times before.

The last time we were on Animal Planet, it was about one of our heart babies, little Binti.

We have these matching donation challenges for Baby Furby's heart. They need to know they can do this surgery on FRIDAY, December 10! We need to know there is money in the bank to pay for it!

Many thanks in advance to all who are issuing challenges. I'm hoping there are folks out there who have been blessed and are able to meet them!

First, from Sue Hodges in Southern California, we have this matching donation challenge. Thank you again Sue! Is there anyone who can match Sue? If so that will be $200.00 more towards the $2000.00 needed to save this little guys life.

Boris collected his Hanukkah gelt and would like to put a $100.00 challenge out to the furballs who are waiting on their Christmas gifts. Sometimes you just have to pay it forward. Deborah and the Big B.<

And what better challenge than one from an adoptive Mom of one of our Heart Babies whose life was saved by all of you.! Thank you Jackie for issuing this challenge!

Hi,

This cold morning I read about Baby Furby's heart issue. I got on the heart reunion page to see what was written about our Pansy SPR, who had heart surgery two years ago! The initial outlook wasn't totally optimistic, so I am super happy to say her outlook for Christmas 2010 is GLOWING! If she could speak she would say Thank you!! So, with our fingers and paws crossed for this baby, we would like to issue a $50 challenge for Furby's heart surgery.

Keep up the good work, Jackie Richard>

And from Claire, the lazy quilter we have this challenge for $25.00! Thank you Claire!

Dearest friends that I haven't met yet. But you all know who you are. Christmas is coming, but all of my children and grand children are over 21 yrs of age.. that makes me.. old.

Susan, all of us are running on fumes, we all know that. But do we really need to spend that much more on grand children? They're not going to know who gave what anyway. So please issue a $25.00 challenge.

To all a Good Night, and as they say in the military, everyone comes back to table for a meal. As for Small Paws and other rescues, again from the military.. every morning we wake up, it's boots on the ground. May God help us as we try so hard to "bring" these little ones to a loving home.

hugs
Claire with Tatter & Junie>

And we have this challenge for $35.00. Thank you Melissa!

Dear Robin,

Buffy needs to take a medication every month now, and it cost $35 a month, so please issue a matching challenge of $35 for Baby Furby. Thank heavens for Dr. Nguyenba!

Blessings,
Melissa Swoager<

Ok, if you want to be happy in a million ways, there nothing like saving a life for the Holidays! All My Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
