Gem of the Day: "Providing food and
shelter is not proving
love for your pet.
Those too, but proper
care and protection
from harm make the
truest sense of responsible
pet ownership."
John D. Carraway, D.V.M.

One and a half year old "Sophia Rose"
was thrown away by her owner.
Alive. Into a trash
dumpster.
Her case has become an official animal cruelty
case. We were asked by a Police Chief in
North Texas to take her into rescue with
Small Paws. Help is needed for her care.
She is heartworm positive. There is a matching
challenge for her, below.
She was actually
thrown away, alive.

"Sophia Rose" after being groomed.
I wanted her to have a beautiful name, so
that she would know that she is not trash.
She is a beautiful life that God created.
Read more about her, below.

Thank You In Advance!
What do you say when you hear that an owner
has thrown her dog away, into the bottom
of one of those large trash dumpster, like
they have at apartment complexes?
The owner asked if she could turn her dog
into the local shelter, but there was a $25.00
fee to do so.
Many shelters now
have a charge for owner
surrenders.
The owner told them "No way." and
took her dog back home, and dropped her into
a trash dumpster. Alive.
The law enforcement officials are going forward
with this as a case of animal cruelty.
I would have told
you about this earlier,
if I could. But this
has been under investigation
and we wanted to
make sure that we
didn't
endanger that.
Sophia Rose could have been crushed alive,
if one of the garbage trucks had lifted the
trash dumpster into the compacter.
Her bill so far is $634.19. That includes
boarding since April 10, vaccinations, dental,
extractions and spay. Of course she is Heartworm
positive.
The estimate for
that is $381.00.
This is a total of $1015.19 that it will
cost to save saved this precious life.
We have one matching donation challenge from
Jeanne Montross, of The Villages, in Florida.
Jeanne is making this challenge in honor
of Maggie Duffy, one of our precious Blanketeers who recently
passed away.

I know this is a
hard case to read about.
Here are some more pictures of Sophia Rose
before and while she was being groomed. Bless
her heart.

Sophia Rose partially groomed, while still
at the shelter.
There are no words.
This is how you can help us to help Sophia
Rose.
She isn't trash.
She is treasure.
All My Love, Robin
P.S. Please pray for Vicki Furstenburg, (Omalou@aol.com)
who helped to facilitate Sophia Rose's rescue.
Vickie's husband Jim, is in critical condition
in ICU, on a ventilator. Please pray for
them both.

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought
it was truly the epitome of what we do, and
why we do it. I wanted to use this black
and white picture of Humphrey, taken only
days before his death due to congestive heart
failure, to let those who may be new to Small
Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known
love. He would have died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
