If you missed our last newsletter, here it
is.

4 year old Dolly came into rescue about a
month ago. We've been trying to hold off
on her vetting until our funds were up some.
Now, she is in hurting and in pain and we
need to help her.
This is the owner surrender form that came
in with Dolly.
As you can see below, Dolly is a 4 year old
Bichon who was what we call "Red Flag.
At Risk."
At risk of assuming
room temperature, if
you get my drift,
here.
She needed our help as her owner was out
of options, and was talking about euthanasia.
<Name of Bichon/BichonMix in need of rescue::
Dolly
Is this dog a Bichon
or Bichon Mix?: Yes
Dog's age:: about
4
Sex of dog:: Female
Has this dog been
Spayed or Neutered?:
Yes
Can you tell us why
this dogs needs to
be
rehomed?: She was
abandoned at a golf
course
in Houston, TX, about
3 years ago, and
rescued
by the course owners.
They took her to
the
vet and found she
needed surgery for
bladder
stones (dr. estimated
her to be one year
old). I adopted her
a year later to be
a
companion to my male
bichon and my elderly
dad, and kept her
on her special food,
but
she still has gotten
more bladder stones,
as well as kidney
stones.
I cannot afford the
surgery, and the vet
says it will be better
for her if she had
it done before she
has symptoms, such as
blood in the urine.
Dolly is about 4 and
a half now, My dad
has died, my husband has
stage 4 breast cancer,
and I don't have the
emotional or physical
energy to care for
her anymore. I'd
like to find a home for
her where the people
enjoy her and can get
her the treatment
she needs. If I can't find
a home for her I
will need to put her down
when she starts showing
symptoms.>
So, she has kidney
stones, bladder stones,
and she needs a dental.
The perfect storm. Triple effect.
Dr. Laura Castel,
(thank you Laura for all that you do for
these Bichons and for Small Paws!) our Team Leader for the great state of GA.,

" The estimate I am getting from my
vet which gives the best discounts is between
$848.51 and $902.11.
This includes all
pre-op work-up including
x-rays, stone removal
of bladder and kidney,
and a dental cleaning.
Maureen mentioned the other night that Dolly
was starting to show signs of pain.
I know that there are a lot of other dogs
in need right now but do you have an idea
of when we can get her surgery done?"
This is one of the difficult things about
rescue.
With each dog that
we take in with medical
issues, we need to
be able to take care of
those issues. To
leave a dog in pain isn't
right for them and
it isn't right for us.
I know how I feel when one of my two boys
is in pain.
I'd rather it be
me, and I know that you
all feel the same
way about your dogs.
Dolly is ours now.
All of us are her parents.
We are all she has
and she needs our help.
This is what bladder stones look like. Try
to imagine these inside of the bladder of
a Bichon, which when empty is about the size
of a sewing thimble. :(

This is what little Dolly is dealing with
now.
I know she isn't
a cute young puppy, but
she is a Bichon,
so she is family.
You may never meet
her. You may never hold
her. But if we can
pull together for her
now, she will be
a blessing in the lives
of others who will.
And they'll know
that her life was
saved
by you.
I'm coming to you now, on her behalf and
thanking you in advance for helping us to
remove this pain she is living with daily.
I'm happy to issue matching challenges for
little Dolly.
All My Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
