Gem of the Day: "Many of us are more
capable than some
of us, but none of us is
as capable as all
of us!!
~Tom Wilson~
We have an estimate from the surgeon to repair
the damage done by a car to this precious
little 8.5 pound Bichon, Pippin. The surgeon
is aging him at between a year and a year
and a half years old.

I had the opportunity to talk with Dr. Keith Curcio with North Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Buford. They recently moved their practice
from Gainesville,
GA down to the Atlanta
area. YEAH for us!!
So we have a fractured
left leg (call this
the bad leg) and
then there is the
right
leg (good leg). He
has some concerns
with
the good leg as well.
He noticed that he
has some pain in
his hip area of the
good
leg. When he tries
to stand he buckles
at
the ankle area and
he walks like he
is "tip-toeing".
Dr. Curcio stated
that there is no
instability
of his ankle (which
is good) and his
collateral
ligament is fine.
He also has some
discomfort
on the top of his
pelvic area (back
by his
rump). Could be some
soft tissue bruising.
He does not see any
obvious fractures
of
his pelvis from the
x-rays that were
sent
over but he wants
to take a few more
xrays
of the pelvis and
ankle area to make
sure
nothing is being
missed.
Pippin was fed this
morning at the vet's
office therefore
surgery is out for
today
but is tentatively
scheduled for tomorrow.
Typically they will
keep the dog for
about
1 to 2 days post
op to keep them quiet
after
a fracture repair.
He stated that the
fracture
was a little higher
for cross pins so
he
is planning on trying
a small plate.
He also mentioned
he has some skin
issues
but at this time
the fracture is the
most
important.
Their "medical
boarding" which
is isolation costs
$50/day. I told him
once
Pippin is cleared
we are going to move
him
to another animal
hospital that can
do it
for $20/day.
Their estimate is $2800 to $3300. As an added
bonus (or discount if you will) they will
also neuter him at no charge while he is
under anesthesia.
To move ahead with
the surgery we need
to
call in a deposit
of $2500.00.>
"Pippin" has a very painful fracture of the femur at the stifle joint
on his back left leg.

He is darling with a sweet temperament.
The actual estimate from the surgeon is for
between $2800.00- $3300.00.
As you know, I'm leaving tomorrow morning
to go to the Small Paws Midwest Bichon Bash
so I will only be here for the rest of today.
This is going to need to be last call.
We have these new matching donation challenges!
First, from Sandy
Sowell in Northern California,
we have this challenge.
Thank you Sandy!

Robin, Please issue
a $50 challenge for Pippin.
One small donation
can make a difference
if enough will meet
that challenge. Thanks
with love, Sandy>
And from June Cheema in Southern Texas, we
have this challenge!

Hello Robin,
We can only afford
$5.00 each for our
fluffs
right now which is
$20.00 total. We
are hoping
if we make a challenge
to others to send
$5.00 each per dog
then the end result
will
grow into a much
bigger amount to
help Pippin.
Hopefully he won't
have to suffer much
longer!
Love and sloppy kisses,
June Cheema and the
"furry kids">
He is in good hands now with a Board Certified
Surgeon.
The reason we use
Board Certified Surgeons
for ortho issue is
that they have seen it
all.
This is all they
do, each and every day.
They know when to
use a plate or a pin.
They know if it's
a hit causing issues that
may LOOK like a leg
issue.
A good surgeon will
save you money in the
long run on an ortho
injury.
So that's where we are with little Pippin.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
All My Love, Robin

Paws Rescue
We had him for the last five years, He is
very obedient normally when we say "stay"
he will stop wherever he is, so some times
we are used to play with him in the yard
for he loves to run around the yard in circles,
during that time we did not put him on the
leash, this particular day he was not on
leash and did not yield to the command when
he saw some dog across the road. It took
off so suddenly the on coming driver did
not have time to stop the car. That is how
it happened.>
 Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought
it was truly the epitome of what we do, and
why we do it. I wanted to use this black
and white picture of Humphrey, taken only
days before his death due to congestive heart
failure, to let those who may be new to Small
Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known
love. He would have died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
