Dear Small Pawsers,

Welcome to the newest members of our Small Paws Rescue Online Newsletter, especially to those of you who saw us live in New York City, on Fox and Friends, last month!

Welcome!

If you missed our last newsletter, here it is.
http://www.smallpawsrescue.org/newsletters/images/jan0710.html

My heart is sad, and soaring at the same time, this morning.

Last night, I got word that one of our precious Small Pawsers, Marguerite Clower, of Diana, TX., passed away Tuesday night. She had been recently diagnosed with liver cancer.

My heart is soaring because I know that Marguerite got her crown and heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." upon her admittance to Heaven.

I'm sad because she had become a dear friend to me over the past several years and I will miss her.

She loved Small Paws with her whole heart and soul.

She went through many trials in the last years of her life, her husband's illness, and subsequent death, her own health issues, but she always took time to send an encouraging word to me.

She leaves behind her two precious Bichons, Toughy, (Formally " SPR Captain") and "Lil Joe."

Vicki Furstenburg, our North Texas Co-Team Leader, is picking them up and will foster them both, herself. Thank you so much Vicki.

I found a couple of e-mails from Marguerite, that I know she would not mind if I shared them with you.

Dec 22. 2009

Steph, please run $50 thru for Hans, match a challenge if you can.
Robin, I prayed hard for Dale you and Chipper. Can't imagine how bad this was. Thank you GOD for answering prayers for Chipper
We MUST save Hans eyes!!
Thank you,
Marguerite

Dec 11, 2009 (Regarding our recent Fox and Friends appearance.)

Robin, I got up at 6 am, Maybe five mins the first tease. then the second, and finally "the show" You were "fab looking" and smooth talking. The babies were just precious.
What a treat!!
Bless you,
Marguerite

10/20/09
Robin, my foot is healing good. So glad its over.
You know I live in the country. We are flooded in, have been since Thurs. It will get worse with the coming rain. One person will go out thru a pasture to get mail and whatever is needed, but all is well. So glad its not in houses, just over the roads.
My prayers are w/you and all babies.
Marguerite>

I will head that way tomorrow, to attend the visitation at the funeral home on Friday night, and the service on Saturday morning.

Godspeed Marguerite. You are already missed so much. I love you.

My heart is also sad because of the earthquake down in Haiti. Dale and I have been to the very poor country of Santa Domingo, in the Dominican Republic, which is only 150 miles from the center of the earthquake, Port Au Prince.

This is the newsletter I sent about the time Dale's former company sent us on a Caribbean cruise, including writings about the island where Haiti is located, right next door to Santa Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

This is a part of that newsletter with a picture of the countryside, the poor white horse that was stuck carrying me, "Mohave", and the two child guides they sent with us.

My white horse, Mojave, my guide "Jesu", Dale's Horse and Dale's guide.
No, Dale didn't ask his guide's name or his horse's name. I think his high school Spanish must have suddenly failed him.
I immediately asked my horse ,"Como se llama?" and both kids answered "Mojave." Either his name was "Mojave" or they were telling me there was a llama in the desert somewhere.

I know Small Paws always needs funds. But I also know how very poor this part of the country is.

We saw starving babies, naked, in the streets. And that was on the GOOD side of the island, the side they let the tourists from the cruise ships see. The images haunt me still today.

So, if it is between supporting Small Paws, or helping the earthquake victims, just this once, I'm going to include the link for the Red Cross, who is helping with the relief effort for survivors, helping the wounded, and yes, even dealing with the dead and diseases which come after a disaster of this magnitude.

To Donate to The American Red Cross

I'm sure there are many worthy charities which are involved in this rescue efforts.

I'm sending you the link to the Red Cross because I KNOW it is legitimate.

Thanks, everyone.

Ok. We have one little guy down in Houston, Texas with Col. Glennda Bruce, our Team Leader for South Texas. He needs our help. Is there anyone out there who can chip in to help him get his eye repaired? He just looks miserable.

Regarding Duncan and getting his cherry eye fixed. I'm going to go get him (Jingles and Peluche also) on Saturday and bring them here. My vet's estimate was between $473 - $575 depending on which procedure he needed to do (remove gland or repair it). Marsha Stenger who lives here is going to take Peluche and Jingles can come to my house at least temporarily.

And, we still need foster or adoptive homes for these little ones and now, we can fly one to you as it has warmed up a bit! Help?

Abbie is a little female who was born December 3, of 2006. She is a puppy mill baby and will need to go to a home or a foster home with at least one other socialized dog and no children under ten years old.
"Rehabilitation of a Puppy Mill Dog."

Ollie had ear surgery with Dr. Skip in OKC last month, all thanks to all of you! He is now ready for a foster home! He has poor vision due to age cataracts. He is nine years old and he really is darling. He has a precious little personality!
If a new owner wanted to, he could probably have cataract removal surgery.
(We aren't able to provide cataract surgery for the dogs who have cataracts due to age. There are just too many of them.)

Meet Schotzy and Sassy! They are both darling and are a bonded pair. They may be siblings. They were surrendered to a kill shelter in MO.
Got room for two more??

Has anyone got room for either Abbie, Ollie or for Schotzy and Sassy?

And if anyone can help little Duncan's eye to be repaired, this is how to do that.

And please keep the people of Haiti, in your prayers.

Thank you all! All My Love, Robin

Last Monday night we paid vet bills totalling $7,377.55 for the SPR rescued Bichons across the country.

We've paid $14, 844.52 in vet bills, for the first 11 days of January, 2010.

Robin,
My little 11 year old mill girl Delphi is being sent to the Washington
State University Veterinary hospital, most likely for disc surgery.

Delphi has been having trouble since New Years Eve and we've been
treating her with confinement and medication but it just doesn't seem to
be helping. She has reached a point where she is not eating and is just
miserable.

I don't yet know the details of when we leave but I sure would
appreciate prayers for a safe trip and for a successful outcome for
Delphi. She is such a sweet undemanding girl. She deserves to spend
the last years of her life pain free and happy.

Subject: Kay's surgery

Hi Katherine, just wanted to let you know that I am having surgery Friday, 1/15. I have a herniated disk in my neck that has to be removed. I'll be out of work for several weeks and will have to wear a neck brace for six weeks. This is the second disk that has gone bad on me and I hope that I have as good an outcome as I did eight years ago. Anyway, that leaves me unable to foster any more fluffs right now. Maybe by the time I have healed the weather will be warmer and I can offer a home to one who needs a place to hang his little hat.
Hope you had a great holiday season. Stay warm.
It never hurts to have extra prayers.

Please pray for my husband is having some surgery on monday. I will be living with my mother in law for that time. with luck he will have day surgery and come home altho it may turn into five days. My dogs are with my vet who called me and told me not let this be a worry to me. Easier said than done with all that's going on and my own health. I believe the prayer warriors can help get me through this. I really would appreciate it. I will let you all know when its over and we are back to some type of normal.

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
