Gem of the Day: The Bichon who started it
all, my Chipper Pressnall, turns 13 years
old on Saturday, February 19, 2011. He's
the happiest Bichon I've ever met, and I've
met thousands of Bichons! You can't get a
picture of him when his tail isn't going
90 miles a minute or when he isn't smiling.
Read below about his story of survival, and
how his rescue taught me all about puppy
mills, and about how the love of a Bichon
Frise can change your life, in ways you never
even imagined!
Happy Birthday to my eldest son, to our darling
boy, who is eight feet tall in dog years,
Chipper Pressnall!

Welcome! We hope

the Bichons and the
people who love them!
If you missed our last newsletter, here it
is.

Little "Smudge" had his first hip
repair last week and so far so good. He will
need the other side done after this side
heals. Both hips were out of socket. You
can see how much pain he was in. Hopefully
he is on the road to feeling better now!
Thank you for helping
us to help him!

McDreamy
And little McDreamy is almost ready to come
home! His new urinary opening became slightly
infected so Dr. Skip wanted to keep him on
antibiotics there for a couple more days.
He runs outside on
the leash and squats,
emptying his bladder
completely. YEA!
Then, they walk him to a bush and hikes his
leg, going through the motions, but nothing
happens. He seems to be ok with this ritual
and if he is ok, we are happy!
Debbie Archer in Arkansas is going to be
fostering this little "dream" of
a guy!
He loves everyone and everything. Anyone
who adopts him is going to be blessed by
his little angel spirit. He is just under
a year old.
I'll get new pictures
for you and maybe a
short video of his
new routine and "outdoor
adventures".
As you know it take
about $1500.00 a
day
for us to pay our
vet bills.

After paying our vet bills this week, our
balance was down to $917.00, which lasted
us only about 3/4 of a day. We are now below
zero.
Yes, I'm going to tell you that we need help,
but first, I want to tell you a story about
a very special little Bichon.
I try not to talk too much about my own dogs,
but this is a special occasion, one that
is really quite special for each one of us,
if you are reading my words now.
You see, Chipper Pressnall, the little one
who started it all for me nearly 13 years
ago, will turn 13 years old on this Saturday,
February 19.
Chipper's Story of
Survival from a Puppy
Mill
And, he is such great shape. He has no cataracts
or hearing loss and he plays like a puppy!
See the short video of Chipper and Spunky
the Monkey Man playing after a recent bath,
in our home.
Bichons are a long
lived breed. If you are
thinking about adopting
an older Bichon,
many of them are
happy and playful into their
later years.
Spunky Monkey is
now 12 and Chipper
will
be 13 on Saturday!
Don't let their age
stop you from experiencing
the love of a senior
Bichon!

Chipper , his Mama, and his brother, Spunky
Monkey Pressnall.
Chipper's the one
"singing."
(He
gets that from me.)
I'll never forget the first day I met our
Chipper, the horrid conditions at the mill
where his parents lived. The dead horse in
the front yard that had been there quite
some time.
I remember Dale telling me, as we drove up
that fateful dirt road, that he thought this
might be one of those "bad places"
called a puppy mill, and that he had seen
something on NBC Dateline about them.
This was all news
to me.
He asked me what
I wanted to do, did
I want
to turn around and
go home, or did I
want
to keep going.
What do you think??
Of course we kept
going and we have
been
going ever since,
thanks to the love
and
support of so many
of you who love this
breed,
all across this country
and in 28 others,
as well.
Now, because there IS a Small Paws Rescue,
we have another foster Bichon, named Rocky,
who needs bladder stone removal surgery.

Rocky
This is from Deb Fayhe, our Team Leader for
MO.

Robin, Rocky is a 7 year old diabetic boy
who now has a bladder stone about the size
of the end of your pinky. The estimate is
$500-600. This is a sweet little guy, who
keeps getting UTI infections and needs that
stone gone!<
And from his foster Mom, Christine Lewis:

Rocky is being seen by the North Main Animal
Hospital in O'Fallon Mo.
He is just adorable. If you don't pet him
when he wants to be petted, he will scratch
at your hand until it is sufficient!
He just wants to be loved that's all. He
is funny because he makes noises that you
would normally hear coming from a video game!
He gets along very well with my Bichon, Sophie.
He is just one big lovey cotton ball.
He really is quite chipper but today I could
tell he wasn't feeling well at all. He greets
me at the door like I have been his Mama
since birth.
The Hello is so Exciting!!
If only men greeted
me so. He is just too
yummy!
Christine Lewis<
So I'm going to ask something, and if you
are able to do so, it is so very much appreciated.
In honor of Chipper's upcoming 13th Birthday,
a Birthday that was an important day for
all of Small Paws, if you can make a donation,
those funds will be used to help Rocky and several others who need medical
attention right now.
Happy 13th Birthday to Mama's Big Boy, Chipper
Pressnall!
You have blessed
the lives of your
Daddy
and I more than you
will ever know.
We cherish each and
every day with you
and
pray there are several
more years to adore
your smile and your
happy nature.
I couldn't love you more if I had given birth
to you, myself. All My Love, Robin

Robin, sorry it's late but I just got home
from putting fuzzy to sleep. I can't type
anymore but please say some prayers for me
and my remaining fluff Suzie. I need major
prayers from folks that live in Gods word
including preaching Gods word. Please help
me find some peace. My parents don't care
and they have the "quit crying and pull
yourself up by your bootstraps. Please pray
for me and Suzie. Love, Leila>

Can you please have
all the mighty prayer
warriors pray for
Mischa, who we have
had
for 16 wonderful
years. She is in
kidney
failure and congestive
heart failure but
has been doing pretty
well on the meds.
Friday
night, she didn't
want to eat and started
coughing. We have
taken her to our
vet Saturday
and Sunday nights
for added meds but
she
just isn't getting
better. Tomorrow
they
will do an ultrasound
to see what is happening.
He did tell us that
she may not even
make
it through the night
but then again, she
may. At least she
is with us and is
sleeping
right next to our
bed so we can be
there
for her.
Mischa started us on our love of this wonderful
little Bichon breed. It is just breaking
our hearts to see her so tired and gasping
at times for her breath.
Please pray for Andy
and I that we can
make
it through this very
hard time.
Love, Lori and Andy

Subject: Re: Bailey
I wanted to let you know Bailey my 16 yr
old foster 101
failure was diagnosed with lung cancer. He
was sick last week and I took him to my vet
and I asked her to xray him because he had
passed a lot of blood along with diarrhea.
She saw some lesions on his lungs and sent
the
xrays over to Carolina
Vet Specialists for
their evaluation
and their radiologist
called
today to confirm
what she saw.
My Vet feels in will
only be a matter of
a few months. I really
need to focus on Bailey.
Yes, I would appreciate if you would let
everyone know - maybe the prayers will help.
I was really shocked
to get that news
and
we would not have
know until he really
started
getting sick. I am
glad we went ahead
with
the xrays. I will
look at the web sites
you
suggested. But the
cancer is wide spread.
But it would be nice
since Bailey was
originally
a SPR dog that everyone
knew what was going
on. Thank you

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
