Next, here are some medical updates! Many
thanks to all who helped these Bichons!
You all remember little Beau, down in South
Texas with Glennda Bruce.

8 year old Beau has a perineal hernia. This
is very painful and his surgery to repair
this is scheduled for this Friday, February
12. He's been sick up until now, and the
vet wanted to get him through this, before
he operated! Thanks to everyone who helped
Beau! His surgery is covered but we do have
an extra $500.00 vet bill that we were not
planning on having.
Everything you always wanted to know about
Perineal Hernias,
but were afraid to
ask!
Subject: Beau
From: glbruce@att.net
Beau is doing much
better. His blood count
was normal yesterday
and the diarrhea has
almost stopped. He
is here with me and the
pack. He is such
a good boy -- it is so obvious
that he was really
loved. You might want
to add an addendum
to the request for donations
for his surgery.
His vet bill was slightly
over $500 this week.
Next, we have this update about little Angel
in Georgia!

Good morning to you
both.
Since changing Angel's diet to Taste of the
Wild, she is a new woman! She has stopped
chewing her tail (for the past two whole
days), and is only licking/chewing on her
paws a little.
I also have been adding a teas of olive oil
to the food daily, I figured that can't hurt
anyone with dry skin.
Her treats have been dried sweet potatoes,
and dried venison jerky--those are both crowd
pleasers for the other dogs as well.>
So, thanks so much, Julie Chattin
Even though we are having good results with
having changed her food in regard to her
allergies, we are still going to have her
seen at the GA. vet school. This has been
something that has been affecting her for
much of her lifetime so we want to find out
what exactly, it is.
Dr. Laura Casteel, our Team Leader for GA.
and LA., tells us that Angel is a go and
set for her appt at University of GA Small
Animal Hospital (Internal Medicine) on Thursday,
Feb 18th at 10:30 am.
Thanks to all of
you who helped Angel!
Next, back on January
19, we highlighted
this little senior
guy, and his new home,
in our newsletter.
Remember little Snowy? He was between 16-17
years old, and we asked for a foster home
for him back in September.
Instead, the most
wonderful family
stepped
up and ADOPTED Snowy,
for whatever time
he
had left.
"Old dogs care about you even when you
make mistakes;
God bless little
children while they're
still

wine."

Vicki,
I just wanted you
to know that our
little
old man Snowy died
this afternoon. We
came
home and found him.
I have yet to tell
Jillian
as she is at a friend's
house. Shawn, my
husband, took him
to the vet to be
cremated.
We are all so sad.
My husband was in
tears
and my son, Alexander
is so sad. Jillian
is going to be a
mess I'm sure. We're
so
thrilled to have
loved him for a little
while
than never to have
loved him at all.
Ouch,
our hearts sure do
hurt today. Rest
in peace
our little old man.
Thank you Vicki!
Sincerely, Sheri

Subj: Re: old man
Snowy Small Paws
Thank you so much for your care and concern
regarding our adoption of Snowy. We feel
very blessed to have him be a part of our
family. My first bichon was a rescue from
my local animal shelter. I thought he was
a poodle mix, and little did I know that
I was given a treasured breed of dog. I had
him for approximately 10 years and when he
died I was devastated. I needed to have another
bichon in my life. I searched the internet
to find how to get another bichon and came
across Small Paws Rescue. Because we were
a grieving family we were given our sweet
little puppy Jack. His mother was a rescue
from a puppy mill and Jack was part of her
litter. We got Jack in the summer of 2006.
When I read about Snowy in the newsletter
last week I knew we could help if Snowy could
handle being around children and our two
other dogs, Jack and our rescued lab Cassie.
When Jeanine and Robin said that Snowy would
be ok with us we talked as a family about
what it would mean to have a dog that old
in our family. After all, my children are
7 and 5 and my husband and I were concerned
that the children would have a hard time
when Snowy dies. Realistically he has less
time on this earth than more. Our seven year
old summed it up for us when he said, "It's
better to love him for a little while than
to never love him at all, right?" That
did it, I made contact with Robin and said
that we were close enough so that Snowy didn't
have to get on an airplane to get to us.
We offered to drive to Los Angeles, which
was 90 min away from our house to get him.
It was love at first sight for all of us.
Snowy has put a calm in our house that wasn't
there before. Jack and Cassie are much calmer
as well. They seem to have a keen understanding
of the fact that Snowy is a little old man.
We are so thrilled with Robin and the whole
Small Paws team. Thank you Catherine for
your continued donations. People like you
help to keep the organization running and
to be a vital resource for bichons who need
to be rescued.
Sincerely,
Sheri Hunter
Bakersfield, CA

Here's one pic of Snowy on Monday. We set
him up a nice comfortable bed on the floor
because we were afraid he'd get hurt getting
on and off of the bed. The little blanket
that he's on is one that was made by someone
from Small Paws and sent with Jack in his
carrier when he was flown from Missouri to
CA. I've saved it all this time and now Snowy
was able to ride home in the car with it
and now sleeps on top of it every night.
:)>
So now you see why
they did it. What
a blessing
this family is!
Yes, we are still paying an average of over
$1000.00 a day in vet bills for these Bichons
in need.
If you would like
to help us to help
them,
this is how you can
do that.
All My love, Robin

Last Monday night
we paid vet bills
totalling
$4,590.84 for the
SPR rescued Bichons
across
the country.
We've paid vet bills for the first 8 days
in February
of 2010 totalling $8, 354.17, averaging $1044.27
a day.

When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black

Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small

do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never

died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
