Dear Small Pawsers,

Welcome to the newest members of our Small Paws Rescue Online Newsletter!

Especially to those of you who saw us on Fox and Friends, last Friday. Welcome!

If you missed our last newsletter, here it is.

Thanks again to all of you for praying for our Chipper! (He has the nerve to look at us like nothing ever happened while he is snarfing down the garlic cookies, made and sent to him for Christmas, by his online girlfriend, Miss Daffews!)

And I guess we wouldn't want it any other way! His oxygenation is at 95% and Dr, Russell tells me that is better than HIS oxygenation number, so I think we are very pleased!

In order that our volunteers may spend time with their families during this Christmas season, the 'Home Office' will be on 'standby' until after New Year's, except for Blue Lights and Siren emergencies, so please keep your fingers and toes crossed that all stays calm between now and then!

But first, we have some final matching challenge donations for saving little Hans' precious eyes!

3 year old darling little Hans (as in Hans Christian Anderson)

Hans has inherited juvenile cataracts in both eyes but that's not the main issue and the main issue is that The left eye is far worse; the cataracts have destroyed the lens and because of the damage from the cataracts there is a small retinal detachment on the bottom of the eye.

He needs a special laser surgery in both eyes in order to save his eyes, themselves, not just his vision.

The laser surgery in both eyes is
$4000-$4200 minus a 20% discount given to rescues.

We have this matching challenge from our friend in Southern California, Sue Hodges! Thank you again Sue!

Robin: I am so happy that Chipper is OK!! Please issue a $100.00 matching challenge to help with Hans. The new surgeries are wonderful, and a young dog should certainly get it if at all possible.

You may remember (through thousands of dogs) that our first Small Paws adoptee was Lucky--9-10 at the time--and blind from VRA, and also had cataracts. Now, at 16+ he still does very well and is a lovely dog. At the time we adopted him, we were told there was no way to restore his vision. Now, it would probably be possible, but he is not a good candidate due to his age. But, were he 5 instead of 16, I would get him the surgery in a heartbeat, and I hope that we can do so for Hans! Best of luck.
Sue >

And from Deb Fahey, Team Leader to Wisconsin and MN., we have this challenge! Thank you Deb!

I thought I was done with donations for the year, but I can't stand the idea of this little boy losing his eyes and his sight. Please issue a matching challenge - anyone can meet any part of the challenge!! It is for $100.00

Robin I am so happy that your little guy is doing so much better. I know he will do great since he is at home.

Stephanie, as a former New Yorker, you will appreciate the fact that we are currently having a blizzard. By morning it will be well over 12" unless it slows down. A real white Christmas!!

Happy Holidays

And from The Villages in Florida, we have this challenge for Hans! Thank you Lynne!

Subject: Re: Dale & I need your prayers. Our Baby Chipper Flat Lined in the Emergency Room.

From: lmcgib@comcast.net

Robin,
I am so sorry to hear that Chipper had flat lined and I hope he is doing better; I cannot imagine what you are going through. Please issue a $50.00 matching challenge in Chipper's name for whatever bichon needs the most help. The last thing you should be worrying about right now is raising money when your own baby is so sick. Our entire family will be praying for Chipper.

And from Carol Easter, we have this challenge, Is there anyone who can match her?

Robin,

You have no idea how happy I am that Chipper is home and doing good, man did I ever Pray.

Now as for Hans.

Please, please save those wonderful eyes. I want to put out a matching challenge for everyone this Christmas Season.

I am sending $20.00 from each of my five fur kids(Ben, Faith, Boo Bear, Kate and Alex) to wish Hans Merry Christmas. It would take only 208 more $20.00 gifts from other fur kids (there are thousands) for Hans to see this world and all its wonders for the rest of his life.

$100.00 will get it started.

Carol Easter, Victory, VT>

Ok, this is how you can help little Hans! All My Love, Robin

I haven't stopped crying. My Mili, who's 13 has turned toxic. She's had congestive heart failure for the past 3 years and with meds and a herbal program we've had lots more fun together. This past 10 days she's taken the wrong road and I'm afraid it's the road to the rainbow bridge. Her kidneys are failing and despite everything I'm doing the values continue to elevate and she's not eating. We've had such a great life together and she's my heart beat so I'm asking for prayers for her and me that perhaps in this miraculous time of the year there may be one more miracle for her.

Thank you!

<Hello Robin

The Geller family has been hit with a few serious problems. My brother in law Patrick Geller who is only 59 yrs old is suffering liver failure and was just put on a liver transplant list. He needs prayers and my sister in law Ruth Geller called to say her husband Terry who is only 61 suffered a stroke and is paralyzed on his left side. Ruth, has been thru so much. Her daughter at age 16 was in a car accident and is paralyzed from the waist down but is married, living in Calif and works for the US Tennis Assoc because of her involvement in wheelchair tennis. Things can turn around and we believe in the power of prayer.

Thank you Robin for sending up a few extra prayers for these special people.

Take care, Mary Geller<

Robin -

I am so happy to read that Chipper has gotten to go home. I was just going to write to you and tell you that I was praying for him and for you, but got this good news first.

Brandy, age 2, with her favorite "hamburger" toy.

Please pray for me, I sent my darling Brandy home to God on Dec. 9. I am grieving and missing her so, and this holiday season is miserable for me.

Take care. Be well.

And Lastly:

Subject: Scooda and Dora Irene

Hello Fluff Lovin' Friends!

I just wanted to share our holiday photo of our 2 SPR family members. Dora
Irene (formerly Lil Darlin'-a 7 year puppy mill survivor) and Scooda
(formerly Max-a rescue from Kansas) are the best fluffs anyone could ask
for. We are so happy and blessed to have them in our family.

Both dogs work in my classroom for children with special needs. I would
have never thought a long time mill fluff would ever be able to work in an
environment like that, but she is so calm and listens to story after story
without any protest. Scooda, who is in training right now, is much more
animated and works with the kids on many of their speech, OT, PT and social
work goals as well as listens to a story or two (or ten).

I've also included a couple of pictures of them in action. I am so very
proud of them as they have such a huge impact on my students' lives. For
those of you who of my beloved Ralphie, he would be so very proud of them
for continuing his work, too.

I wanted to thank each of you for making it possible for Dora and Scooda to
be in our lives as each of you in some way, shape or form helped them get to
us.

Have a blessed and joyful holiday season!
Dana and Dave

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
