Our Chipper is home, with his Mama and Daddy and his
brother, Spunky the
Monkey Pressnall!
He's home! Early! Dr. Skip went next door
to the ER yesterday afternoon and told them
he was taking Chipper. Then took him back
next door to the surgery center, and removed
the tube that was sticking into his side
to pull the air out of his chest cavity.
No more air was leaking out so the tube could
go!
He put Chipper down on the floor and he began
to wag his tail (Chipper, not Skip) and then
he headed for the door. He wanted to come
home.
Krista, Skip's nurse, called to tell me that
Chipper could go home YESTERDAY! Two days
early, and to come get him!! I was there
in 5 minutes!
He is now home, here with us, and he seems
to be none the worse for wear!
I asked him if he saw a white light (when
he had gone into cardiac arrest and had flat
lined for several minutes) and he told me
the only light he remembered was the one
to the Golden Arches on the Turnpike, from
OKC to Tulsa. Ok. I can take a hint!
I am so grateful
to each of you for
your
prayers, your phone
calls and for your
e-mails.
I have several hundreds
of them, so just
know that Dale and
I appreciate you
all so
very much! You are
our family!
I don't think I'll
ever forget Skip
explaining
to Dale, Chipper's
Dad, how he had left
us
for a while.
This was one of those
things that ca happen
to anyone, like when
a person has a minor
procedure and then
codes on the table.
I thank GOD that
my baby was with
Skip when
this happened.
Well, I have mail
to get to but we
wanted
to thank you all.
Our baby is home
and we
feel we received
a wonderful Christmas
miracle
this year.
We still have several Bichons needing help,
so I'll tell you about this one last one
in Ohio, before the Holidays.
We have a 3 year old darling little Bichon
named Hans (as in Hans Christian Anderson)

Hans
Hans has inherited juvenile cataracts in
both eyes but that's not the main issue and
the main issue is bad. We can either try
to raise the needed funds for this specialized
laser surgery or we can remove both eyes
at a cost of around $4000.00. He's only three.
It would be great if he can have sight during
his lifetime.
He can survive without
his eyes, but he will
be much easier to
place with his eyes.
This is from Hans' Foster Mom, Danielle Howe,
at unwellnumber@hotmail.com. Linda Fausey
and Sharon King are the Team Leader for Ohio,
where this is happening. We are using the
great speciality vets at Medvet Medical Center for Pets in Worthington,
Ohio.
The Ophthalmology Department is who is working
with us.
"They said he has cataracts in both
eyes (inherited), the right eye has cataracts
scattered about, but it is not blocking his
vision. The vet said those cataracts are
likely to get worse over time, but may not.
The left eye is far worse; the cataracts
have destroyed the lens and because of the
damage from the cataracts there is a small
retinal detachment on the bottom of the eye.
He would need surgery to restore vision;
they would remove both lenses and put new
ones in. They would also use a laser to scar
the area where the retinal detachment has
stopped to ensure it won't continue. There
is a 5% risk of inflammation, glaucoma, and
retinal detachment in the right eye w/surgery,
15% in the left eye. There is a 75% chance of those things if
there is no surgery. (95% success w/right eye, 85% success w/left
eye). 15% chance
of further retinal detachment
in the left eye w/the
laser retinopexy.
The laser surgery in both eyes is $4000-$4200 w/the laser to stop the retinal detachment.
They give a 20% discount to rescues.
Dr Web can be reached at 614-846-5800 if
you have questions).
Please let me know
what you would like
to
do.
Danielle>
This is how you can help us to save this
baby's eyes. Not just his vision, but his
eyes.
Again, thank you
all for praying for
our
Chipper! All My Love,
Robin

They have everything

it
in San Antonio the
last two years and
got
about $150 -$200

year we
also did it at the

lot
of fun and a great
way to let the public

merrier.
It is only for a

I can't take credit for this version of "T'was
the Night Before Christmas" and perhaps
you have already seen it or used it, but
here it is anyway. I just changed the name
of the group to Small Paws Rescue. There
was no name to attribute authorship, nor
any copyright marked. My boys and I are giving
$10 for each of the twelve days of Christmas
for a total of $120; please use this to meet

A Rescue Dog’s Christmas
Poem
Tis the night before
Christmas, and all
through
the town;
Every shelter is
full – we are lost,
but
not found.
Our names are hung
on our kennels so
bare,
We hope every minute
that someone will
care.
They’ll come to adopt
us and give us the
call,
“Come here, boy,
come, and fetch your
new
ball!”
But we sit here now
and think of the
days
We were treated so
fondly – we had cute,
baby ways.
Once we were little,
then we grew and we
grew,
Now we’re no longer
young and we’re no
longer
new.
So out the back door
we were thrown out
like
trash,
They reacted so quickly
– why were they so
rash?
We “jump on the children,”
“don’t come when
called,”
We “bark when they
leave us,” or “climb
over
the wall.”
We should have been
neutered, we should
have
been spayed.
Now we suffer the
consequence of errors
they
made.
If only they’d trained
us, if only we knew,
We’d have done what
they asked us and
worshipped
them, too.
We were left in the
back yard, or worse,
left to roam.
Now we’re tired and
lonely and without
a
home.
They dropped us off
here and kissed us
goodbye,
“Maybe someone else
will give you a try.”
So now here we are,
all confused and
alone,
In a shelter with
others who long for
a home.
The volunteers come
through with a meal
and
a pat,
But with so many
to care for, they
can’t
stay to chat.
They move to the
next run, giving
each of
us cheer;
We know that they
wonder how long we’ll
be
here.
We lay down to sleep
and sweet dreams
fill
our heads
Of a home filled
with love and our
own cozy
beds.
We wake to see sad
eyes just brimming
with
tears –
Our friends filled
with emptiness, worry,
and fears.
If you can’t adopt
us and there’s no
room
at the inn,
Could you help us
pay bills and fill
our
food bin?
We count on your
kindness each day
of the
year,
Can you give more
than hope to everyone
here?
Please make a donation
to pay for the heat
And help get us something
special to eat.
The folks at Small
Paws Rescue want
us to
live,
And more of us will,
if more people give.
Merry Christmas!

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
