3 Year Old Lucy has
been hit by a car.
This is a video of
her FULL of pain drugs
that aren't touching
the pain.
We have some new matching challenges for
her surgury. This is as urgent as it gets.
First, a text came in from Joan and Pat Borders
at jpborders@aol.com to issue a challenge
for $1000.00. Thank you so much Joan and
Pat! Is there anyone who is blessed enough
to match this gracious challenge, to save
Lucy's life?
"Wow. C.C., Lily (our Chicago girl),
and Cassie just heard about Lucy. They promised
that they wouldn't track up the newly shampooed
stairway carpet for a whole day if we could
issue a $1000.00 Challenge. So please issue
it! The carpet isn't worth it but Lucy is
worth far more!!"
Joan and Pat Borders
And from Rick and Jan Battan at janbattin@runbox.com
we have a matching challenge for $100.00.
Is there anyone who can match Jan?
Thank you Jan and
Rick!
"Please issue

No time for a Gem Today. We have another
medical emergency happening. A three year
old female has been hit by a car in Chicago.
She has four broken pelvic bones, two on
each side, and a broken sacroiliac joint as well, and she needs surgery or her surgeon
says she will need to be humanely euthanized
because she is in such pain.
Her owners couldn't
afford veterinary
care
so they surrendered
her to the shelter,
and
they called us. She
needs our help.

3 year old Lucy was HBC (Hit by car). She
needs surgery to fix broken bones.
Small Pawser Linda Ochsenfeld, rushed "Lucy"
to the Animal Care Center of Plainfield, a 24 hour
Emergency Care Hospital in Plainfield Il. on Saturday morning for emergency care over
the weekend until we could get in to see
the surgeon, today.
14411 S. Rt. 59
Plainfield, IL 60544
(815) 436-8387
This was the estimate just for emergency
care and and meds
for the weekend. $647.03 and that was with a 30% rescue discount.

Dear Robin,
This is my estimate for Lucy through the
weekend. I have tried to anticipate the overnight
clinics charges as best as I can. We have
a 30% discount on all day clinic services.
I will call you with
an update this afternoon
on Lucy's status.
Thanks
Daniel Erjavec DVM
Each time they called with updates, they
said she was in SEVERE pain and they were
trying to stay ahead of it until she could
see the surgeon earlier today.
So today we took her to one of our surgeons,
Dr. Andrea Hayes at Boone Animal Hospital.
4720 Commonwealth Ave.
Western Springs,
IL 60558
Phone: (708) 246-5445
This little girl
is badly hurt and needs
surgery ASAP.
This letter is from Dr. Hayes to all of you.
Lucy - Pelvic Fracture
To whom it may concern,
"Lucy was presented for a bilateral
pelvic fracture, an injury sustained from
being hit by a car. The patient is in an
extreme amount of pain even with pain medications.
Without surgery, it is our recommendation
to humanely euthanize Lucy.
Very Respectfully,
Andrea Hayes, VMD,
DACVS"
The estimate for
this extensive life saving
surgery and for today's
consult is for between
$4,582.27-$5390.14,
minus a 20% Rescue Discount.
This is a letter
from the Small Pawser who
took her to the surgeon
today, Christy Aggio
at chrisaggio@hotmail.com.
Christy was a
nurse in the NICU
at a hospital so she knows
what she is talking
about.
"Robin and Sara,
I have been a volunteer with Small Paws for
the past 6 years, and today was one of the
worst days of my life! I was asked to transport
Lucy to an orthopedic vet today in order
to evaluate her broken pelvis. Lucy was hit
by a car on Friday, October 12th, and her
family was unable to pay for her vet bills.
She was given up to a Chicago shelter and
it was discovered that she had a broken pelvis.
She was rescued by Small Paws on October
13th. Due to it being a weekend, we were
unable to find an orthopedic surgeon to see
her, so she was placed with a local ER and
given IV pain medications over the weekend.
I was asked to take her to be evaluated by
an orthopedic vet today. Lucy cried in pain
throughout the 40-minute drive to the surgeon,
and I cried along with her! She was in excruciating
pain! I have never heard a dog cry like that
before! As I sit here and write this email
to you, the tears are flowing down my face!
This poor baby doesn't deserve to suffer!
As we were waiting in the exam room, I leaned
in close and told Lucy that we would take
good care of her! She closed her eyes and
relaxed for a few minutes. My heart is breaking
for this poor baby!! Please consider donating
whatever you can to save this sweet baby
so that she can have surgery tomorrow morning,
and give her the life that she deserves!
Thank you so much!
Sincerely, Christy"
So Lucy needs around $5000.00. Shoot. They
just now called and are having to move her
back to a local ER for IV pain meds through
the night at an added cost of $500.00 because
they can't leave her unattended at the surgeon's
office, on IV pain meds. Her heart needs
to be monitored overnight.
We simply can't let her lie there in pain.
We have one new matching donation challenge
that was sent earlier, and Deborah asked
me to use it for the next emergency. Well,
it's the next emergency. Thank you Deborah!
From Deborah Frederick at dfed@sbcglobal.net
Hi Robin,
Please issue a new
matching challenge for
$400.00.
Deborah
We have just got to get her out of pain.
The dogtors said she is on as much pain medicine
as they can safely give and she still screams
when they turn her over every four hours.
She still has deep pain sensation in her
back legs and is able to urinate and dedicate
on her own but she can not stand or walk.
Her pelvic bones are broken in four places.
I'm here and will all issue matching challenges
for this precious girl.
