As many of you know, there is no one else in the country who has this much experience in doing heart murmur repairs for their breed.

In the past six years, Small Paws Rescue has taken 21 Bichons in for heart murmur repair surgery.

Now, we have another little one who desperately needs this surgery. "Daisy" is in Roanoke Virginia and we persuaded her breeder to turn her over to Small Paws, as opposed to euthanizing her.

Ok, we don't have much time. This baby has a grade six PDA (patent doctus arteriosus ) heart murmur.

They grade these on a scale from 1-6. A grade six is the largest one you can have.:(

This is the same surgery that we did for baby Marcy, the story that is seen monthly on Animal Planet.

IF we can raise the funds needed for Daisy's surgery, I will fly there to Roanoke Va. to pick her up on Monday morning, fly her back down to Austin, Texas that same night, then get up early the next morning and drive on over to Texas A&M, where we have had so many previous successes.

The Heart Murmur Reunion Bichons!

We have a tentative appt for 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday Morning at the Small Animal Clinic of Texas A&M University. I have to see if we can raise these funds first, before we can actually take her in.

Daisy weighs only 3.3 pounds. Texas A&M has coiled Bichon puppies for us all the way down to 2.5 pounds, so this is no problem for them. You see they use a coil procedure where a tiny coil, (they call it a Texas Heartworm!) is inserted through the femoral artery, and gently guided up to the heart while being watched on a video machine, (fluoroscopy) where they can see it. It is then guided INTO THE HOLE IN THE HEART, causing an actual blood clot to form, thus FILLING IN THE HOLE! The blood clot then becomes permanent tissue and stays there forever, filling in that hole! How cool is THAT! It is not an invasive procedure and they wake up from the surgery ready and rarin' to go with maybe two stitches! They then have a normal life with a normal life span!

After we lost nine month old Mikey, from heart murmur repair surgery, up in New York City, I promised you all that if we ever had another one come in, in any other part of the country, I would fly there and pick the baby up, and then fly it back down to Texas A&M.

Thanks to our Fairy Dog Pilots, I'll be doing this again, this coming Monday IF we can raise the $2000.00 it will take to save this precious little life. That's what the surgery runs,

Robin--
I know I don't take the time to thank you for all the hard work you do for Small Paws Rescue, but please know that all the great people involved with the organization are always on my mind (and in my prayers). That being said, I wanted to let you know that I just received the first notice from my company, SBC, that it is time to "re-up" for our United Way Contributions. Last year, I doubled the amount I contribute and designated Small Paws Rescue as the recipient. It took a little work because Small Paws was not yet listed in our choices.
Please, in your next email, ask everyone who already contributes to United Way to direct some (or all) to Small Paws. The information needed is on your website. If each of the 5,000 volunteers only designated $5 per month, just think of the amount of money that would pour in!!!
Thank you, again, for all you do.

Ok, we need to know what to do here...if we should go ahead with the plans for this baby. Please let us know what to do...time is running out for baby Daisy. Tuesday is the soonest they can see her. Oh man...I hope we can pay for this by then! Love, Robin
