Small Paws Rescue took covert action at an auction today, and oh man, I hope you guys believe we did the right thing!
September 29 Total Kennel Closeout
We went in today, unannounced, and did not raise funds in advance because this was a rare "middle of the week" auction.
I was hoping that we could send in a bidder with a set amount, recover these Bichons, and then come back and beg for mercy. Did we do the right thing? Oh man, I sure hope we did.
They were selling everything at this sale, due to the owner's poor health. This is what the owners had to say...
"SELLER’S STATEMENT: We have raised dogs for over 30 years to help supplement our income. After Walt’s heart attack and by-pass surgery, we decided to move to Oklahoma and increase the number of dogs for more income. We continued to acquire the best dogs that we could find. We now have a kennel full of beautiful, well bred dogs, that are doing very well for us. However, we have not been able to find reliable help and our kennel is just more work than we feel we can adequately care for by ourselves. We will be keeping a small group of dogs that we can easily manage and still enjoy time to ourselves. We only call a dog bred when she is showing bred and this should be a great advantage to you at the sale. And there are several showing bred now, for Christmas puppies. We hope you can take advantage of this opportunity to purchase some really good dogs. Thank You, Walt and Nettie Harris"
Yes, they are selling their dogs to strangers.
Some will go to kennels that don't take good
care of their dogs...BUT...the Harris's will
have their money, and after all, isn't that
what is really important here? The dogs are
good for just one thing, Income. Dogs don't
have feelings, or souls. They only have monetary
value. Now, please pardon me while I have
to go be ill.:(
Ok, our bidder just called. We were able to recover two females today and we spent $2000.00. This is who we got out.
One female was born on 11-13-03 and is an 11 month old that is VERY VERY pregnant. Small Paws recovered this baby for $1375.00 while five millers were in a bidding war for her, salivating, talking out loud about how many years of income they had ahead since she is just a "pup". After all, it is proven that she can get pregnant....she is about to burst! MY GOD SHE IS JUST A BABY HERSELF WHAT THE HELL ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING???
Ok, sorry, I just lost it but am calming down now. The other female we got out is also pregnant and was born 11-16-00 and sold for $625.00. I'll get pics as soon as we can. Our bidder is still at the auction now.
We will also need funds to vet these two girls. We need to make this up ASAP or we are going to be running short in our general fund, the one we pay vet bills from! Help!
If you have donated before to Small Paws Rescue with your credit card, please just e-mail me with your name and the amount you want to give, and we will do it all for you, automatically!

Robin--
I know I don't take the time to thank you
for all the hard work you do for Small Paws
Rescue, but please know that all the great
people involved with the organization are
always on my mind (and in my prayers). That
being said, I wanted to let you know that
I just received the first notice from my
company, SBC, that it is time to "re-up"
for our United Way Contributions. Last year,
I doubled the amount I contribute and designated
Small Paws Rescue as the recipient. It took
a little work because Small Paws was not
yet listed in our choices.
Please, in your next email, ask everyone
who already contributes to United Way to
direct some (or all) to Small Paws. The information
needed is on your website. If each of the
5,000 volunteers only designated $5 per month,
just think of the amount of money that would
pour in!!!
Thank you, again, for all you do.

<Subj: LaBelle of the Florida Nine

From: tail_waggin@hotmail.com

Hi Robin,
I just had to write regarding little LaBelle
of the Florida Nine that we rescued. Please
share this with the other SPR family members.
When I picked LaBelle and Brandon up in Wildwood,
FL and brought them home, they both looked
terrible! They both had ear mites and LaBelle
was so afraid of everything and everyone.
Brandon was later discovered to have heartworms
and it took almost two months to clear up
his little ears. Anyway, LaBelle lost nine
of her teeth when SPR had them cleaned and
developed such a cute grin from it. When
she finally started coming and wanting attention,
she would smile and wag her little tail at
you. I was so afraid that she would have
a hard time finding a forever mommy and daddy.
When I talked with Brant about her and it
was decided to put her on PetFinders, I made
up my mind that I would make sure that she
would have the best humans available or she
would just be staying right here with her
foster sissy Jessie and foster bubby Brandon.
When I got notice that someone was interested,
I think my heart was torn as to whether to
let her go or not. I must have spent an hour
on the phone with the prospective mommy and
some time afterward deciding whether LaBelle
should go or not. When I finally thought
about all that was told to me by the prospective
mommy I knew that LaBelle would be loved
forever. After numerous emails and a final
decision that the adoption was ready, her
new mommy called and was in tears of joy
that she now would have a little girl. We
made arrangements for them to come and pick
her up (they did not want to fly her) and
that is when Hurricane Francis decided to
make her appearance. We were all disappointed,
but we set another date, as we all know here
in Florida, that during the hurricane season
is not a good idea...LOL. Here came Ivan!!!
So, instead of staying here and waiting to
be blown away, we headed north. I let LaBelle's
new mommy and daddy know what was going on
and we set up a meeting place in North Carolina
not far from their home (we got a hotel near
by). Talk about a barking good time!! I was
thrilled when her new mommy and daddy showed
up with her new bubbies (not sure if the
people in the rooms next to us was...hahaha).
They brought treats for all the fur babies
and also brought ALL of the things that they
had bought for their new little girl to show
off. When her new mommy saw her, it was love
at first sight on both parties behalf. LaBelle
(who is now known as Calle Belle) snuggled
into her mommies arms and actually sighed
with a huge grin on her face, poor daddy
didn't stand a chance of not loving this
little one. Her new bubbies immedately fell
in love and wanted to give kisses and play,
but she wanted to say right where she was.
I can't say how wonderful it made me feel
to get to see this happen. Here is a little
one that has never known what love meant
who now has a forever mommy and daddy along
with two bubbies to spent the rest of her
life with. Even though I have shed tears
from losing her, I shed more happy tears
knowing that she will be loved forever. This
is why I am so proud to be a part of this
wonderful organization. Even though my little
one (Jessie) and my other foster (Brandon)
are not sure what happened, I think they
also knew that it was a wonderful thing to
be a part of. Through SPR, Jessie has many
new friends and loves each and every one
of the fosters as if they were her own.
Enough for now, so until later, take care,
stay safe and give all the fluffers a huge
hug from us.
Hugzzz & Puppy kisses,
Janet Igo, Jessie (the Border Terror...oops...Terrier),
Brandon (our little foster fluff), Boomer
(our part-time resident fluff) and Nikki
(the kitty)>
Ok, we have the following prayer request, and a thank you note, and I think that is everything until next time. I hope you guys think we did the right thing going in today to this auction on a covert action basis! Oh man, this was a tough call! Love, Robin
Thank You

Dear Robin and Bonnie,
I would like to take this time to say THANK
YOU to the both of you for the
beautiful Small Paws Okie Bichon Bash on
Saturday. Upon seeing you both again
this year warmed my heart. Listening to you
sing,Robin, brought tears to my
eyes and my heart to feel all the love, joy
and even sadness that we all have
shared over the past year. The luncheon was
delicious and the cold soda and
water felt so refreshing on a warm Tulsa
afternoon.
The husband/wife team that provided all the
music( and donated all their time
to
Small Paws-free), were amazing. When the
auction started, the feel in the air
was filled with excitement. My heart was on
overdrive when I was bidding on the
beautiful bichon bench( made by Greg Sarvela
and painted by Sharyn Sarvela-team
leader of MN and Iowa). I was so proud to
be the highest bidder on that
beautiful item and even more proud that all
the money raised from the auction
went to Small Paws-( saving one little bichon
life at a time).
Thank you for taking the time to make a special
bandana for each bichon that
attended the Okie Picnic. That was a very
special touch.I also want to say
thank you to Carol for making each of us
a pair of bichon earrings to remember
this beautiful memorable day for years to
come.Thank you to all the wonderful
BLANKETEERS that came to Tulsa. They provide
so much love and security wrapped
in a blanket for a little fluff who needs
warmth and security and find some in
a soft beautiful blanket
Dale, thank you also for the visit. You are
a wonderful man and a great
supportive husband to Robin. Thank you for
letting me get to know you better
this year. Sally Ann is a beautiful little
girl and it is so easy to see the
love that you have for her. Congratulations
on finding each other!!!!!
As with anything in life, there is always
a time to say good bye. I would like
to end this thank you with a huge hug. Thank
you for spending this past weekend
with all
Small Pawers. Thank you for being my family
and thank you for healing. Going to
Tulsa each year and seeing the two of you
and all my other Small Paws family is
so spiritually uplifting to me. Thank you
both for doing what you both do so
well. Give of yourself to others.May the
Lord continue to bless us all until we
meet again next year in TUlSA for the 7th
annual OKIE PICNIC.

Hi Robin,
I hope your dad is doing better now that
he is in therapy. I also hope you are taking
care of you and that Dale is all right too.
Doing the running like you two are takes
a lot of you, it's very stressful on the
body and mind. So you two take care of each
other.
I have a prayer request. I had a very early
morning phone call this morning from my niece
in Colorado. My brother had a heart attack
they think about 4 days ago, but just went
to the hospital yesterday morning. He had
open heart surgery this morning, one of his
major, major arteries was 100% blocked. They
put a stint in, but he is in serious condition.
Basically, the nurse told me, they are keeping
him alive with all the things they have him
hooked up to and they are not even sure if
he will make it. They are trying to let his
heart rest and hopefully repair it's self
some. Rick is his name. I was adopted when
I was a baby, by the best parents in the
world. But in 95 I was given my adoption
papers. After a few months work I found my
birth mother and my brother Rick. So I haven't
had Rick in my life for very long and I sure
hope God will let me have him in my life
a lot longer.
Robin, would you please pray for my brother.
And also ask the Small Paws Prayer Warriors
to pray for him too. It would mean so much
to me to have my Small Paws family praying
for my brother.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Penny Wickstrom
