Last Tuesday night we paid $3770.30 for one week's worth of vet bills.
(We had many more vet bills than this that just haven't gotten here yet, probably due to the Holiday. Next week they will probably all hit at once!)

Stephanie Hunter tells me that so far we have raised $640.00 as of 10:32 a.m. this morning for our newest heart murmur babies.

We have almost 1/4 of the funds needed to to send one of the two heart murmur babies to Texas A&M.

Because of your help, we've now completed 54 heart murmur repairs at Texas A&M over the past nine and a half years. We thank you so much for this!

This is 5 month old "Strudel." His heart has a hole in it and is not able to send the blood through his body as needed. He has that look that the heart babies have when they don't feel good.

Labor Day Louise ( "Weezie" ) is really bad. She is almost one year old and you can hear her murmur one one foot away from her body without a stethoscope. She is way past having the "I don't feel good look." She is more like at the "I only want to lay my head on your shoulder" look.

The good news is that some of you have issued matching donation challenges!

This first one is a doozy and would go to fund 2/3 of one of these life saving surgeries!

Don Rorschach at don.ro@verizon.net, from Irving Texas has issued a challenge.

In case you're wondering, no, we never ask our members to donate or to issue these matching challenges. This is something they do all on their own!

If someone is issuing a matching challenge, it really was their idea and they saw the need in the same newsletters that you are reading right now!:)

Ok! Are you ready?! Don has issued a matching donation challenge for, are you ready, NO? THEN YOU NEED TO GET READY! HA! $2000.00. That's TWO THOUSAND dollars! THANK YOU DON AND ROBYN!!

Now in my way of thinking, the chances of someone being able to match this amount may be slim.

But in God's way of thinking, He tells us he wants us have life and he wants us to have it abundantly!
“I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10 ).

I believe that we should absolutely expect a miracle, and that perhaps one of you, or several of you going together, will be able to take advantage of this very generous donation from Don and his wife Robyn, in order to give life abundantly, to little Strudel and to Weezie!

Then in turn,. this will happen!

I truly, from the deepest place within me, believe that these little ones, these Bichons that are rescued through Small Paws, are meant to be a beacon of light in a world of darkness.

I believe that they are little white ambassadors, telling a hurting world of God's unconditional love for the people who love these Bichons!

Just as we love these little white dogs, and give so much to make sure they have what they need, God loves us in exactly the same way.

He loves each one of you more than anyone ever has and more than anyone ever will. You are LOVED! Do you hear me? YOU, yes YOU are loved by God and by Small Paws Rescue, and that, ladies and gentlemen, you can take to the bank!

Now I'm not good at choosing one over the other, and since I don't know any of us who are, please pray that funds can come in for both of these little ones, for little Weezie and for precious little Strudel!

That sounds like the possible makings of a country song.

"Let's fix their hearts. Their achy breaky hearts. Let's all see how much we can give.
If we fix their hearts. Their achy breaky hearts. Then Weezie and Strudel get to live!

I know. Don't give up my day job! HA!

Ok, in addition to Don's very generous challenge, we have these wonderful challenges for you!

From Judi Gad we have this challenge! Thank you Judi! So much again!

Hi, Robin

I'd like to issue * 20 * challenges, each for $5.00. That means that I challenge 20 people to donate $5.00 each - within the next 24 hours. If that goal is reached I'll double my $100 donation and make it $200.

So, countdown. :)

Please let me know as soon as the 20 people have accepted my challenge so I know how much to have you put on my credit card.

Love, Judi>

And from Yvonne Otsby we have these words! We just love that Yvonne! Look at her dog's names! HA!

Hi Robin,
It's true. After a holiday everybody is broke and tired. That is why I am submitting a challenge everyone can join in on. I challenge all the web users to dig in their piggy or puppy banks and pullout $5.00. Yes, only five dollars for each Bichon in their household. I have 5 bouncy, happy, bright eyed fur-butts sitting next to me as I type this. The two broken heart babies, Weezie and Strudel deserve a chance to enjoy a happy full life. So come on, Small Pawsers, if $5.00 each is running you short, send $5.00 for the whole herd. Let's make the pot overflow.

I wish I was closer to you so that I could help make runs with these babies, etc. I look at these pictures and absorb what you write, and I feel pretty helpless. We are so fortunate--Baron (Small Paws), Alphie and I. Baron had some aggression issues and has turned around beautifully since we got the "dog whisperer" you suggested, Robin. Both boys are different dogs than they were and everyone comments. They are both just "loves." I think Baron was just scared that he would be abandoned again and was very insecure. Now he finally holds his tail up high, curled, and is enjoying his life. Because we are so thankful to all be together and because Baron is here because of Small Paws, we are going to stretch this month and give an extra $50 in addition to our monthly pledge from Alphie and Baron---and I ask anyone else who has been as blessed as we are to do the same. We need these guys to love and cuddle and others need them, too. Check is in the mail! Carol Bowen>

The gift shop is now sold out of tickets for the 2007 Blanketeers raffle quilt. Thank you to everybody who has purchased them and helped us sell so many in such a short time.

There are still a few tickets in the hands of Blanketeers, and these will be available - first come, first served - at bashes or picnics we attend this Summer. (we will have a very few at the NW bash Aug 27 in Arlington, WA and there should be a few at Tulsa.)

The drawing will be held and the quilt awarded at the Okie Picnic in October. You need not be present to win. We'll get it to the winner if they're not at the picnic.

Printing is limited to 1000 tickets, at $5 each, and we believe they will sell out well before the drawing at the Oklahoma Picnic, October 27, 2007.
(Claudia Bilotti of Stamford, CT won the 2006 quilt! It appraised for $3400.00!)

"Trouble In Paradise"

The second Book in the Cassie Grimes Mystery Series with a special acknowledgement to Small Paws Rescue! In the book, under "Author's Notes & Acknowledgements", this paragraph appears:

A special thanks to Small Paws Rescue for their tireless devotion to rescuing Bichons from the most unspeakable circumstances. Robin Pressnall and her army of foster parents, volunteers and supporters are amazingly generous with their time and money on behalf of some of the most loving and trusting creatures on earth. They are the embodiment of the idea of "walking the walk."

Her business is in a lull, her husband’s lost his job and her best friend is so depressed she’s talking about suicide. Cassie Grimes is sure that things can only get better as she loads her dogs in the car and heads for Florida to work things out.

Fat chance. Nothing’s ever that simple for this dog-loving woman who seems to be a crap magnet. Shortly after arriving at the condo she’ll soon be forced to sell in the name of solvency, her wealthy best friend is arrested for the disappearance of her much older husband.

What’s a woman to do? Jump into the middle of things, naturally. With the help of her Bichons, Maggie and A.J., her disgruntled hubby and a couple of gun-toting geriatric party girls, Cassie can’t resist being an amateur detective. She’s not making any friends in the local police department because she keeps turning up in the middle of crime scenes. While trying to help her trophy-wife friend, Cassie uncovers a web of fraud, murder and extortion that have the bad guys trying to beat her up or blow her up or just plain shoot her. It gets so bad that Gene even suggests she hire her former boyfriend as extra security. Yikes.

What Cassie goes through in the name of friendship will keep you on the edge of your seat. That is, of course, if you don’t fall off it while laughing out loud. Once again, Pearson proves that everyday life can be not only exciting, but hilarious.

Of course, they are signed from Maggie and A.J. to the buyer's pooch, so please put your fluff's name(s) in the Comments section of the order form!

As promised we have this update on little Kodi for you!

Kodi came into rescue at one year old with a sever liver shunt.

Thanks to so many of you, she had liver shunt repair surgery last week. It ran right at $3600.00, just $400.00 shy of the high estimate. We have not gotten the bill yet, and it is one of those that will be coming to be paid next week. We DID raise the needed funds for Kodi, and we thank you for that!

Subject: Re: Small Paws Rescue - Kody
Date: 9/5/2007 8:28:03 P.M. Central Daylight Time
From: carterkl05@yahoo.com

Here is an updated picture of Kody from today - one week post-surgery. She is scheduled to get her sutures removed next Tuesday. She will then need "hospice care" for 8 weeks while she heals and further testing for her bile count. The 2 month mark will be a huge determining factor as to her future health due to the testing required at that time. The Dr. warned that a lot can happen during those two months and she will possibly develop a new shunt or little fibroids in her liver. He said that she may need to be on medicine for the rest of her life. If all goes well, she'll have normal, healthy life span. If something changes for the worse, her condition will shorten her life span.
She's a great little dog. I forwarded the bill to Sue - I think it was right at $3600, but I think Sue was going to see if we could get that any lower.
Thanks, Kristine>

Prayer Request

Our Small Paws Senior Legal Counsel, Angela Paulsen just called me. They are over at OSU vet school. here in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

They have this three legged dog named Jack. Jack's a mixed breed short brown very friendly and loving doggie.

They just found a tumor on his kidney, and Angela called asking for a stop, drop and pray prayer requests. She has seen the miracle healing power of prayer at work in Small Paws over all of these years.

Thank you for praying for little JACK PAULSEN.>

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
Godspeed Humphrey Sisco. Godspeed.
