Gem of the Day: "Logan, the Sky Angel Cowboy November 11th, 2007"

13 year old Logan understands God's love for us.

(When one of our members lost her beloved Bichon, Buddy, in a tragic HBC accident last week, Small Pawser Montez Brown sent this to me.
It's a recorded phone call into a radio show from a 13 year old boy and I hope it will bless your heart as it blessed mine. I've been e-mailing with the DJ who took the call. He used to work at a Tulsa radio station. He knows that Logan's call will be going out now to 23 countries and thousands of Small Pawsers, and now Logan knows that as well.
It's all about God's understanding when we lose a loved one, including our precious Bichons.)

We have this update on little Bedford, the 8 month old that was HBC (Hit by car) in Southern California last week!

Now he is ok, except he's not a he! It's ok to read this! It's just that HE is really a SHE!

This is the update sent my Joyce Meier. We found a better deal for him, uh., for her! She has to be on antibiotics for a few days before the surgery. That's why they are waiting until Friday.

Hi Robin,

I wanted to give you an update on Bedford. First of all, I have bad news and I have good news. The bad news is that we no longer have Baby Boy Bedford, the good news is that we have Baby Girl Eleanor, or Ellie. I thought you would want a nice strong name for this little girl! Since the dog I picked up from the shelter had pelvic fractures I did not take her out of the crate. The shelter said the dog was a male, well, Baby Ellie is a girl. As you know I took her to City of Angels Advanced Critical Care on Thursday. Friday afternoon while at my vet's office with another shelter dog I was telling my vet about the dog with the fractures. Her associate, Kathy Lehnhard does FHO surgeries and they give us a rescue discount. I left Ellie with City of Angels through the holiday weekend and picked her up today, Monday, November 12th. She had a pain patch and pain medication so other than being car sick she did well with the long drive. The bill for the 4 nights along with medication came to $544.43. She is now at my local vet's office, Stockdale Veterinary Hospital. She is going to be put on antibiotics and make sure her chest is stable and her surgery will be on Friday afternoon. The price to do her surgery at this office is estimated at around $1500.00. Since the estimate at City of Angels was $3500 - $5000 we are saving quite a bit of money plus she is safe and sound and close to me.

I will let you know how she does on Friday evening.

"Trouble In Paradise"

The second Book in the Cassie Grimes Mystery Series with a special acknowledgement to Small Paws Rescue! In the book, under "Author's Notes & Acknowledgements", this paragraph appears:

A special thanks to Small Paws Rescue for their tireless devotion to rescuing Bichons from the most unspeakable circumstances. Robin Pressnall and her army of foster parents, volunteers and supporters are amazingly generous with their time and money on behalf of some of the most loving and trusting creatures on earth. They are the embodiment of the idea of "walking the walk."

Her business is in a lull, her husband’s lost his job and her best friend is so depressed she’s talking about suicide. Cassie Grimes is sure that things can only get better as she loads her dogs in the car and heads for Florida to work things out.

Fat chance. Nothing’s ever that simple for this dog-loving woman.Shortly after arriving at the condo she’ll soon be forced to sell in the name of solvency, her wealthy best friend is arrested for the disappearance of her much older husband.

What’s a woman to do? Jump into the middle of things, naturally. With the help of her Bichons, Maggie and A.J., her disgruntled hubby and a couple of gun-toting geriatric party girls, Cassie can’t resist being an amateur detective. She’s not making any friends in the local police department because she keeps turning up in the middle of crime scenes. While trying to help her trophy-wife friend, Cassie uncovers a web of fraud, murder and extortion that have the bad guys trying to beat her up or blow her up or just plain shoot her. It gets so bad that Gene even suggests she hire her former boyfriend as extra security. Yikes.

What Cassie goes through in the name of friendship will keep you on the edge of your seat. That is, of course, if you don’t fall off it while laughing out loud. Once again, Pearson proves that everyday life can be not only exciting, but hilarious.

Of course, they are signed from Maggie and A.J. to the buyer's pooch, so please put your fluff's name(s) in the Comments section of the order form!

Dear Robin and all Small Paws Friends,
I just wanted to write to you and thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for all the letters I have received after the loss of my baby girl Daisy.
I can not believe all the letters I have received!
There are so many wonderful people out there.
It has been a few weeks now since I have lost her, but I have gained a lot of strength from all the letters I have read from all of you.
I would love to answer each one of them, but there are so many of them!
I know Daisy is in a much better place now, but I still cry all the time for her.
But thanks to all of you, I have seen how much people really do care!
Thanks to all of you, and once again Robin, Thank you for letting Daisy be a part of my life!
I love you all very much!

<Good morning to all the Small Paws workers.

I wanted to send an email to thank ALL of you for all the work and efforts you put in regarding adoptions and rescues.

I am a recent recipient of "Bob Dylan" from Small paws rescue.
For all that care, Bob is a beautiful wonderful little boy.
he adjusted very well to my bichon, and cuddled up to me that night.

he still has allot of coming out to do, as he only been here for 5 days, but so far he stole all of my dogs toys, stole his chewys, and got comfortable in his bed.
He is just starting to play, and only had 2 accidents in the house ( my fault).
Seeing my Bichon try to be the alpha male is the funniest thing, they race up and down the stairs to see who can sit on the higher step!

If all goes well and I get married one day ill look to adopt a third Bichon from you!

Here is a picture of Bobs new friend and home.
Thanks again to everyone involved and its people like you that take care of Gods creations!

Good morning ladies, All is not well here. The tumor removed two weeks
ago was cancer and there is more in the bladder wall. I have an
appointment with the oncology specialists at UNC Chapel Hill on Dec 6.
They will go over everything with me and schedule surgery to remove the
bladder. The urologist here said all lymph nodes in the surrounding area
looked completely normal, so that may be a good sign that the cancer is
still contained to the bladder. Don't know yet for sure.

Need more of those positive thoughts and prayers.

Subject: My Husband

Hello Ladies,

I have very bad news for you and waited until today to let you know. About three weeks ago Mike was diagnosed with stomach cancer that had metastized to the liver. With no treatment he had about two months to live. That was a Thursday. The following Sunday morning I took him to the emergency room because his blood pressure had dropped to double digits and his temp spiked to 101. He was very weak his color was very yellow and he was very tired. And he was dehydrated and had a hard time breathing. They admitted him immediately to the hospital. Kaiser, Woodland Hills.

He was there for five days. They gave him oxygen immediately and started an IV to hydrate him. He was doing fairly well at home after the 5 days. Our daughter and granddaughter came last weekend to spend time with Mike (Lisa is a Nurse Practitioner). She and Vicki (our other daughter who lives with us) took care of us. Thursday we went to the oncologist for the first time. He stated that at this time this type of cancer, which is fast growing is not curable however, it is treatable. Our hope is that by following his recommendation of a strong chemo every three weeks, the cancer will slow down. Mike was at the chemo lab about five hours yesterday and thank God, he has not been sick to his stomach yet. He is very weak and tired. His weight has dropped a lot, of course we tease him about that. He is on a high calorie diet now.

We have oil and a cloth from the Shrine of St. Nictarios both from Aegina (in Greece) and here in Southern California. Many, many people are praying for us.

Cosmo & Tiffany think our company is for them. Cosmo really love Mike's brother and sister.

Love, Nickie>

Cherokee Legend

Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth's rite of
passage?

His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and
leaves him alone.

He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not
remove the blindfold until the rays of the morning sun shine
through it.

He cannot cry out for help to anyone. Once he survives the
night, he is a MAN.

He cannot tell the other boys of this experience because each
lad must come into manhood on his own.

The boy is naturally terrified. He can hear all kinds of
noises. Wild beasts must surely be all around him. Maybe even
some human might do him harm. The wind blew the grass and
earth and shook his stump, but he sat stoically, never
removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could
become a man!

Finally, after a horrific night the sun appeared and he
removed his blindfold. It was then that he discovered his
father sitting on the stump next to him. He had been at watch
the entire night, protecting his son from harm.

We, too, are never alone. Even when we don't know it, our
Heavenly Father is watching over us, sitting on the stump
beside us. When trouble comes, all we have to do is reach out
to Him.
