I realized I had not shown you a picture of our little Annie. Here she is, please continue to pray for her!

This is our latest update on Annie, if you missed it. http://www.smallpawsrescue.org/pup3/march2407.html

I want to see this smile again.

This is the look of fear that so many of us involved in rescue have seen time and time again on the faces of so many dogs from the puppy mills, who have been abused and neglected, all in the name of the almighty dollar. May God have mercy on their souls.

We have another urgent medical situation in Ft. Worth, Texas, and this little one needs your help.

Meet 2 year old little McCoy. He was in a shelter near Dallas, waiting for help. They thought he was a poodle. Look at those halos around his eyes.

When I first saw this picture I thought this poor little boy just needed his toe nails clipped. Ah Contraire'.

You better hold on to your lunch. This is his metatarsal bones poking out after his foot was chopped off in some sort of an accident. Oh my God. Yes, we have him on a Morphine drip and IV antibiotics.

Subj: Re: McCoys estimate
Date: 3/23/2007 9:18:23 PM Central Daylight Time
From: Omalou@aol.com

McCoy is the 2 yr old male that we got Tuesday where is foot had been amputated above his ankle in an accident. His metatarsal bones are exposed. He is currently at our FW vet on IV's for antibiotics and pain. The vet has a surgeon that will come into the office and do the amputation for $900.00. Everyone at the vet said this is the sweetest dog we have ever brought in and we have a local couple that is wanting to adopt a 3 legged dog that does not shed. This would be their 3rd 3 legged dog. The other two have since died of old age."

We got a cheaper estimate for just a regular vet to do the amputation for $600.00, but we do need to raise that.

We may never know what happened to little McCoy's foot, but I have my sneaking suspicions that this may have been abuse. I have no way of knowing this for sure as this was a stray at a shelter.

The reason I'm thinking that this may be an abuse case is that it's not ragged like it would be if he got caught in a trap or like Lulu who got run over by a train but survived anyway, was.

And one of our foster dogs had to go to the ER last night. Yipes.

Subject: NEIGE in NC -- EMERGENCY 3.23.07

I authorized Angela Taylor to take NEIGE to the E-Clinic tonight at 10:00
p.m.;
He and Sam ( her dog ) got into a 2 lb bag of Hershey Kisses and consumed
the entire contents; at first she thought it was only Sam, her dog, but
when she got back from the E-clinic with Sam, Neige had begun vomiting and
diarrhea.
In addition to the issue of theobromine I am concerned about an acute
pancreatic attack from the fat content; by the time she discovered their adventure, it was too late for
Hydrogen Peroxide to induce vomiting;
E-clinics are terribly expensive; Sam's bill was 400.00.
Hopefully Neige's won't be so much, but I'd not bet on it.
KinNC>

As you know, I'm not able to come and raise funds as we need them right now, due to the search for Annie in Fl.

I need your help here, guys. We have a 12 year old that came in in Alaska last night. The vet called me with a $600 estimate for spaying and a tumor removal.

Hey Robin,

The timing couldn’t be better, because the Small Paws Quilt Shop is opening today with FOUR new spring quilts. If it’s OK, I’d like to earmark the quilt donations for those four little mill fluffs who just came in. $2839 is a lot of money, but I bet the quilts could put a pretty big dent in it. You know I have a special place in my heart for all mill dogs. I have one sitting at my feet who escaped the Amish, missing an ear and part of his tail, and another napping on the chair behind me who also owes his life, and an expensive ear surgery, to the generosity of Small Pawsers. To me, saving these mill dogs is the BEST part of Small Paws. Look at the pictures of the four dogs in the newsletter today, and compare those with the “Red Hot Mamas’ in the second newsletter. Those girls are ready for new homes after lives of misery, all because of donations. The four new dogs, with their sad, scared eyes, need that chance, too.

As usual, the quilts are available for a limited time, and each quilt is handmade to order. Please allow two weeks for the ancient quilter and the even more ancient Singer to get your quilt to you. They are about 32” square, 100% cotton fabrics, and fully machine washable and dryable. While most of them end up as fluff beds, they can also be used as wall hangings or table decorations. You can see other pictures on my website, www.christinejohnson.org, which has been updated with the new quilts. $50 each, and please specify a second choice in the “comments” section on the donation page.

Quilt #1: Nekkid bunnies! There can’t be a better name for an Easter quilt which features two different bunnies, Easter eggs, and a plaid.

Quilt #2: Spring floral. Pretty pastels flowers on white, polka dots, and a matching stripe. Welcome Spring!

Quilt #3: Puppies and Poppies! This red poppy fabric is just adorable. It comes with a red and black plaid and some Small Paws paw print corners. Is there a better color on earth for a fluff than red?

Quilt #4: Spring Tulips. A totally wonderful spring fabric featuring tulips, hearts, and a great paw print fabric. Jake’s favorite!

And now, for the special surprise! Robin, someone who orders one of these quilts will be getting the 500th (yes, five hundredth) Small Paws quilt. To celebrate, I’m going to hold a drawing from all the donors, and that one person will be getting a surprise along with their quilt. That’s all I’m going to say about that!

Chris>

And if you don't need a quilt, we still need your help! Imagine having your Bichon accidently having his or her foot shopped off and the bones being exposed. Good Lord. WHAT HAPPENED HERE?

We will probably never know. We do know this much. McCoy is family now. We are all he has. He needs us in a big way, as does Neige, and our little Alaska girl.

Can you please help us to care for them while I am away looking under bushes for Annie?

"Trouble In Paradise"

The second Book in the Cassie Grimes Mystery Series with a special acknowledgement to Small Paws Rescue!

In the book, under "Author's Notes & Acknowledgements", this paragraph appears:

A special thanks to Small Paws Rescue for their tireless devotion to rescuing Bichons from the most unspeakable circumstances. Robin Pressnall and her army of foster parents, volunteers and supporters are amazingly generous with their time and money on behalf of some of the most loving and trusting creatures on earth. They are the embodiment of the idea of "walking the walk."

Her business is in a lull, her husband’s lost his job and her best friend is so depressed she’s talking about suicide. Cassie Grimes is sure that things can only get better as she loads her dogs in the car and heads for Florida to work things out.

Fat chance. Nothing’s ever that simple for this dog-loving woman who seems to be a crap magnet. Shortly after arriving at the condo she’ll soon be forced to sell in the name of solvency, her wealthy best friend is arrested for the disappearance of her much older husband.

What’s a woman to do? Jump into the middle of things, naturally. With the help of her Bichons, Maggie and A.J., her disgruntled hubby and a couple of gun-toting geriatric party girls, Cassie can’t resist being an amateur detective. She’s not making any friends in the local police department because she keeps turning up in the middle of crime scenes. While trying to help her trophy-wife friend, Cassie uncovers a web of fraud, murder and extortion that have the bad guys trying to beat her up or blow her up or just plain shoot her. It gets so bad that Gene even suggests she hire her former boyfriend as extra security. Yikes.

What Cassie goes through in the name of friendship will keep you on the edge of your seat. That is, of course, if you don’t fall off it while laughing out loud. Once again, Pearson proves that everyday life can be not only exciting, but hilarious.

Of course, they are signed from Maggie and A.J. to the buyer's pooch, so please put your fluff's name(s) in the Comments section of the order form!

(Betsy Bunny, Annie (an SPR doggie), Ding-Ding and their Mom Debra have given me permission to use their picture.)

Do you or someone you know like to cross stitch? If so,this item might
be just the thing for you. Have your favorite photos converted into a
pattern that you can cross stitch. It can be a picture of your dog,
cat, child or anything you have a picture of that you would like to
cross stitch. You can support Small Paws Rescue and have fun at the
same time. 100% of the proceeds will go to SPR.
>
This would make a great gift for someone you know that likes to cross
stitch. You can buy the pattern or the pattern and the floss and give
it to them as a gift, or you can stitch it yourself first then give it
as a gift. When you are done, it can be framed or made into a pillow.
You will get a computer generated cross stitch pattern (not a kit). All
patterns are printed out for 16 count, but can be done in any size you
wish. The design is coded for DMC floss and will come on several
sheets of paper. All patterns are done in whole cross stitches.
Included with the pattern is an easy to read symbol key guide and a
color picture of your item. The pattern is printed in black and white
on a laser printer.

Betsy Bunny, Annie (an SPR doggie), Ding-Ding and their Mom Debra have given me permission to use their picture. Above is the digital picture of them and then how it will look after it is stitched. This pattern uses 50
colors and the finished size using 16 count canvas is 8 inches tall by
12 inches wide.

Hi Robin,

Also, Buckwheat and Tina are featured on the first two SPR postage stamps, at just $19.99 a sheet.

I'm hoping that some of you can help to maybe help us some until I can recover Annie and get back home. These Bichons need us, just like Annie needs us.

I thank God for each one of you. All My Love, Robin

Prayer Report
Subj: Gary's Surgery Update 10:30 PM Tuesday 3/20
Date: 3/20/2007 9:52:34 PM Central Daylight Time
From: JANEWAY59@aol.com

Hello Family & All:

Gary's surgery is over and the procedures went very well. He was in surgery from around 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM today. The surgeon was happy with everything -- so far so good! Thanks for all your prayers, calls, visits and thoughts today. One request from his surgeon and the ICU staff - if you are ill or have been around anyone who is ill, please avoid visiting the hospital. Thanks for understanding.

He started recognizing people, opening his eyes a bit and coming out of it around 6:00 PM. By 8:00 he was trying to spell out things he could not say with his fingers on the blanket, due to the breathing tubes in his mouth/throat. We got some smiles, and eyebrow moving and hand squeezing. The nurses took his breathing tube out around 8:30 and he was trying to talk a bit by the time 9:30 came around. They nicked the back of his throat pulling out the tube and he was not happy having to syphon the blood himself with a long wand. He had his eyes open at 9:30. I just called his nurse and she said he was doing well. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers while he is on the mend! Sorry if I missed anyone.

Love, Jane>

Dear Robin,

Thanks so much for your kind heart and compassion. I wanted to let you know that Mrs. O went to The Bridge somewhere between 3 and 4 this morning. She is dearly loved and missed by her flock. I went to Bird Jungle and have purchased another bird. She is a baby cockatiel and called a pearl mutation. She won't be weened off baby food for nearly a month, but I thought that the best way to fill this tremendous void is to replace the old love with a new love. To honor Mrs. O and the joy she brought to my life. Thanks again for all your compassion. Good luck with finding Annie, and please tell Chipper, Spunky Monkey, your canary and all the dogs I said hi!

Sincerely,
Marissa>

Dear Robin,

I know you are swamped with e-mail at the moment, but this isn't about recall info you can find on the internet.

I just wanted to let you know that Lucky doesn't have bladder crystals anymore. I decided to switch vets (for various reasons) and, after two visits over a few days, Mr. 'Speaker of the House' has been diagnosed with Cushing's Disease. I have never had to deal with this before, so I'm not sure what to expect. I've started doing research on this now as well. Lucky is going to the vet tomorrow for his 2nd round of tests to find out what type of Cushing's Disease he has. Rest assured, he has his "Mad Quilter" SPR Blankie, which Cheri has been kind enough to lend to him, with him at all times.

Please say a prayer that I will be fine. If I have my blankie, I am not there!

And I'm sure "Run Away Annie" is hanging out under a blankie that looks just like this too! No
wonder we have a hard time locating her! We all look the same!>
