As of the writing of this newsletter, the
search team is still looking for the elusive
Miss Annie in Florida. This is the latest
update from Vicki Nixon.
Folks, I have to tell ya that Vickie Nixon
has been on this case 24/7. She is the direct
contact with the search teams and I know
that she too, is tired. Please pray for Vicki
to have strength till we see this through
to the end.

Time
From: MamaBichon@comcast.net
To: Pup3@aol.com
Hi, Robin. Just wanted to give you and update
about what has happened today with Annie.
As you know, Annie was darted last night
(Sunday around 8:15 pm). Lori (Octogan Wildlife
Sanctuary) who darted her and the EARS volunteers
spent many hours looking for her in the dark
and were unable to locate her. Lori explains
that this is a very instinctual thing an
animal will do - "make themselves invisible"
until they feel safe again.
Today, Lori took care of her own animals
at the sanctuary and headed out to where
she darted Annie last nite (arrived at 3:45
pm today). Lori spent all the daylight hours
going into the bushes areas (between houses)
where Annie was darted. Remember, Annie is
now in a neighborhood area with houses and
some empty lots with Palm Meadow bushes.
Lori's goal today was to first try to "find"
Annie - not to just go out and dart her again.
Everyone who Lori saw on the streets in this
neighborhood this afternoon, she asked if
they had seen Annie - no sightings today.
Lori also drove around the surrounding residential
streets looking and went through the new
construction sites checking all nooks and
crannies. Lori's conclusion is that Annie
is sleeping off the anesthesia (if she didn't
run off the dart last night). If Annie didn't
run off the dart, she would still have movement
today, just be a little out of it. Lori did
report that she saw no wild animals or turkey
buzzards. She only saw one raccoon and an
armadillo. Again, Annie is in a residential
area and is very familiar with hiding out
and finding safety.
Tomorrow morning, Katie from EARS will go
out and do some searching between 6 - 7:30
am before her kids get off to school. Katie
expressed how very tired she is and I told
her that she needs to give herself a rest
and we all know how much she has given to
finding Annie. Please pray for Katie. She
has done so much to help find Annie.
Lori has meetings at her sanctuary tomorrow,
but if there's a sighting, I will call her
and she will find a way to get out to where
Annie has been sighted. Other than that,
Lori can devote time to the Annie search
on Wednesday.
I wish I had better news. I know how disappointed
I was after Annie was darted last night because
I thought it was finally over. God has His
own plan. Lori and Katie have both told me
they are not giving up. Annie is still out
there and they will still be looking.>
Ok, while the Fl. search team looks for Annie,
we still have many Bichons here, depending
on us.
You've told me to let you all know when the
Bichons need you.
Sometimes I wonder if we should take in one
more Bichon that is going to be expensive
to treat, because I know I will have to come
and ask you all for help again. I just hope
this is still what you want me to be doing.
Last night we paid $13,748.68 for just one
week of vet bills. This means that in the first 19 days of March, 2007, we have
paid vet bills totalling
$25, 433.31.
We still have baby Mandy in ICU at Texas
A&M and I just got word that four more
Bichons from the commercial kennels of Missouri
are coming on home to Small Paws, later on
this week.
And Buffy, the little girl in Arizona that
we feared may have been the victim of tainted
dog food, now has bladder stones as well.
It never stops does it? The estimate to get
this little girl out of pain is for between
$779.00 to $859.00.
Subj: Buffy
Date: 3/19/2007 9:54:27 PM Central Daylight
Time
From: jcrowl@mail2Nevada.com

Robin,
I received a phone call last week regarding
an owner turn-in. The owners found themselves
in great difficult regardng finances and
Buffy was sick and needed help. Without hesitation
I accepted Buffy into the Small Paws family.
After examining her it was decided that she
had a very upset stomach. Then we found out
she had eaten four cans of one of the recalled
pet foods in the past two weeks and that
became the main focus for a few days. Well
it turns out Buffy has four bladder stones
sitting in her bladder and they need to come
out. For Buffy's sake the sooner the better.
Poor little Buffy not only has lost the only
family she has ever known, but is sitting
in the doggie hospital waiting for the pain
of these bladder stones to be removed. Life
for Buffy has turned very scary and dark.
She is a very sweet little girl who just
doesn't understand what is happening. The
estimate for Buffy's surgery is a low of
$779 to a high of $859 and that includes
a $250 Good Samaritan Discount. Please let
me know when we have the funds so that Buffy
can have her surgery.

Hey Robin,
The timing couldn’t be better, because the
Small Paws Quilt Shop is opening today with
FOUR new spring quilts. If it’s OK, I’d like
to earmark the quilt donations for those
four little mill fluffs who just came in.
$2839 is a lot of money, but I bet the quilts
could put a pretty big dent in it. You know
I have a special place in my heart for all
mill dogs. I have one sitting at my feet
who escaped the Amish, missing an ear and
part of his tail, and another napping on
the chair behind me who also owes his life,
and an expensive ear surgery, to the generosity
of Small Pawsers. To me, saving these mill
dogs is the BEST part of Small Paws. Look
at the pictures of the four dogs in the newsletter
today, and compare those with the “Red Hot
Mamas’ in the second newsletter. Those girls
are ready for new homes after lives of misery,
all because of donations. The four new dogs,
with their sad, scared eyes, need that chance,
too.
As usual, the quilts are available for a
limited time, and each quilt is handmade
to order. Please allow two weeks for the
ancient quilter and the even more ancient
Singer to get your quilt to you. They are
about 32” square, 100% cotton fabrics, and
fully machine washable and dryable. While
most of them end up as fluff beds, they can
also be used as wall hangings or table decorations.
You can see other pictures on my website,
www.christinejohnson.org, which has been updated with the new quilts.
$50 each, and please specify a second choice
in the “comments” section on the donation
page.
Quilt #1: Nekkid bunnies! There can’t be
a better name for an Easter quilt which features
two different bunnies, Easter eggs, and a
plaid.

Quilt #2: Spring floral. Pretty pastels flowers
on white, polka dots, and a matching stripe.
Welcome Spring!

Quilt #3: Puppies and Poppies! This red poppy
fabric is just adorable. It comes with a
red and black plaid and some Small Paws paw
print corners. Is there a better color on
earth for a fluff than red?

Quilt #4: Spring Tulips. A totally wonderful
spring fabric featuring tulips, hearts, and
a great paw print fabric. Jake’s favorite!

And now, for the special surprise! Robin,
someone who orders one of these quilts will
be getting the 500th (yes, five hundredth)
Small Paws quilt. To celebrate, I’m going
to hold a drawing from all the donors, and
that one person will be getting a surprise
along with their quilt. That’s all I’m going
to say about that!

"Trouble In Paradise"
The second Book in the Cassie Grimes Mystery
Series with a special acknowledgement
to
Small Paws Rescue!
In the book, under "Author's Notes
&
Acknowledgements", this paragraph
appears:
A special thanks to Small Paws Rescue
for
their tireless devotion to rescuing
Bichons
from the most unspeakable circumstances.
Robin Pressnall and her army of foster
parents,
volunteers and supporters are amazingly
generous
with their time and money on behalf
of some
of the most loving and trusting creatures
on earth. They are the embodiment of
the
idea of "walking the walk."
Her business is in a lull, her husband’s
lost his job and her best friend is so depressed
she’s talking about suicide. Cassie Grimes
is sure that things can only get better as
she loads her dogs in the car and heads for
Florida to work things out.
Fat chance. Nothing’s ever that simple
for
this dog-loving woman who seems to
be a crap
magnet. Shortly after arriving at the
condo
she’ll soon be forced to sell in the
name
of solvency, her wealthy best friend
is arrested
for the disappearance of her much older
husband.
What’s a woman to do? Jump into the
middle
of things, naturally. With the help
of her
Bichons, Maggie and A.J., her disgruntled
hubby and a couple of gun-toting geriatric
party girls, Cassie can’t resist being
an
amateur detective. She’s not making
any friends
in the local police department because
she
keeps turning up in the middle of crime
scenes.
While trying to help her trophy-wife
friend,
Cassie uncovers a web of fraud, murder
and
extortion that have the bad guys trying
to
beat her up or blow her up or just
plain
shoot her. It gets so bad that Gene
even
suggests she hire her former boyfriend
as
extra security. Yikes.
What Cassie goes through in the name
of friendship
will keep you on the edge of your seat.
That
is, of course, if you don’t fall off
it while
laughing out loud. Once again, Pearson
proves
that everyday life can be not only
exciting,
but hilarious.
Of course, they are signed from Maggie
and
A.J. to the buyer's pooch, so please
put
your fluff's name(s) in the Comments
section
of the order form!
