Gem of the Day: “This is my wish for you: Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, and love to complete your life.”
~Lynnie Buttercup~

Lenny aka Rocky

Lenny aka Rocky weighs 18 lbs and was rescued from a kill shelter. He is a lovable bichon mix - perhaps poodle or schnauzer with a beautiful coat of silky white hair. He is approximately 9-10 years old.

Lenny/Rocky is blind in his left eye and only has a few teeth. His blindness was caused by being hit on the head which also affected the hearing in his left ear, but none of this has stopped him from doing anything.

He is very sweet and well socialized. Lenny/Rocky loves going on road trips or just going bye-bye in the car. He likes other dogs and plays well with them. He also enjoys his toys and going outside.

Lenny/Rocky likes attention and comes when he is called. He likes to be petted and rubbed. Rocky is a little dog with a unique and loving personality who really enjoy his life.

Ok, we have updates on the Andrew Sisters, yes all THREE of them thank God.

Laverne the little black Beeshey poo puppy that was mostly dead in Friday morning for we don't know how long, is not out of the woods yet.

Laverne was looking like she was about to assume room temperature again, all weekend long. The ER vet suggested that she probably had brain damage from being without oxygen for so long, and did we want to put her down?

I may be over cautious when making that decision, but it's not one you can take back. I asked them if she was suffering.

No. She wasn't suffering AND she had not had a seizure sice Friday evening. She was taken off of sedatives at that time and was now only on IV fluids and glucose for her blood sugars.

I asked them to just keep her going until I could get her back over to Dr. Russell. We have seen dogs come back from neuro damage. Case in point was a Bichon named June, who is ow living in Arkansas. She had a heart murmur that couldn't be fixed and she tried to die on the operating table when she was spayed.

June was NOT bustin' out all over and she would NOT wake up from anethesisa. DAYS went by. We prayed and she slept. Finally she came out of it and today she is alive and well and has all of her facilities about her. (Not bad for a natural platinum blonde.)

Yesterday, Laverne could not hold her head up or sit up without falling over. I was afraid she was no better today when I took this sjort video around noon:
Click here to see the short video if you have dial up.

Click here to see the short video if you have high speed.

BUT THEN, I'll be if she didn't sit up and hold herself up for a picture!

Then, when I returned to see her at around 4: 00 P.M. our vet tech told me that she ATE and DRANK on her own this afternoon, and that she was up sort of walking around in a circle because she had to GO. (Hey, if ya gotta go ya gotta go.)

Come on Baby Laverne! Come on you can do it! Several folks want to adopt you if you can just come on and make it through this!

As I say, she's not out of the woods yet, but she's not still in the icy pond! She can see daylight ahead!

We do not know if this group of three came in from the ills with a virus or what. Parvo test on all three were negative. They are all three also being tested for distemper, because Lavern had siezures and was mostly dead with bloody diarhea.

At the ER on Friday night, the other two Andrew Sisters started having loose stools. (Hope you are not having breakfast now. If you are, hope isn't chocolate Malto Meal, but I digress.)

Many thanks to Small Pawsers, Dave Hagadorn, Don Rorschach, and Patty Shearer for giving up part of their Father's Day Weekend to drive these girls down to Texas A&M!

On the way down to Texas A&M in Patty Shearer's car, Maxine and Patty (the puppy not the Small Pawser) had the trots again. When they arrived at A&M on Saturday evening, they were both dehyratated and were put on IV fluids in ICU, later that night. We were right to take the in through their ER, instead of waiting for a regular appt. during the week.

Maxine

Patty

The Andrew Sisters Heart Babies

BOTH Patty and Maxine DO have grade six heart murmurs, but they have to find out what is causing this other virus like problem., before they can go to surgery.

Maxine has been sent over to Internal Medicine (It's like across the hall at A&M from Cardio) and if she can stop having loose stools they will send her back over to Cardio tomorrow.

I've been in contact with A&M about 5 times a day. They are all over this and are aware that the group's alto singer is still here in Tulsa, trying to remember how to stand up.

SO, that's where we are with the Andrew Sisters. With every hour their meter is running round and round. I am thanking God for our online auction becase these gals are going to need some extra help with their vet bills!

WHen I was holding them the other day I heard something coming from their chests. I thought it was their heart murmurs but now I am thinking it was THEM saying "CHA-CHING! We gonna cost you guys some BIG dollars!"

If you want to help us with the vet bills, (aside from what we have raised and will use for their heart surgeries) this is how to do that.

Joe LaBeau, a Bichon Dad at jrsnortie@wowway.com wants to issue a $50.00 matching challenge for the Andrew Sisters' "Above and Beyond Their Heart Murmur Sugeries Fund"! Thank you Joe!

"Trouble In Paradise"

The second Book in the Cassie Grimes Mystery Series with a special acknowledgement to Small Paws Rescue!vIn the book, under "Author's Notes & Acknowledgements", this paragraph appears:

A special thanks to Small Paws Rescue for their tireless devotion to rescuing Bichons from the most unspeakable circumstances. Robin Pressnall and her army of foster parents, volunteers and supporters are amazingly generous with their time and money on behalf of some of the most loving and trusting creatures on earth. They are the embodiment of the idea of "walking the walk."

Her business is in a lull, her husband’s lost his job and her best friend is so depressed she’s talking about suicide. Cassie Grimes is sure that things can only get better as she loads her dogs in the car and heads for Florida to work things out.

Fat chance. Nothing’s ever that simple for this dog-loving woman who seems to be a crap magnet. Shortly after arriving at the condo she’ll soon be forced to sell in the name of solvency, her wealthy best friend is arrested for the disappearance of her much older husband.

What’s a woman to do? Jump into the middle of things, naturally. With the help of her Bichons, Maggie and A.J., her disgruntled hubby and a couple of gun-toting geriatric party girls, Cassie can’t resist being an amateur detective. She’s not making any friends in the local police department because she keeps turning up in the middle of crime scenes. While trying to help her trophy-wife friend, Cassie uncovers a web of fraud, murder and extortion that have the bad guys trying to beat her up or blow her up or just plain shoot her. It gets so bad that Gene even suggests she hire her former boyfriend as extra security. Yikes.

What Cassie goes through in the name of friendship will keep you on the edge of your seat. That is, of course, if you don’t fall off it while laughing out loud. Once again, Pearson proves that everyday life can be not only exciting, but hilarious.

Of course, they are signed from Maggie and A.J. to the buyer's pooch, so please put your fluff's name(s) in the Comments section of the order form!

Do you or someone you know like to cross stitch? If so,this item might
be just the thing for you. Have your favorite photos converted into a
pattern that you can cross stitch. It can be a picture of your dog,
cat, child or anything you have a picture of that you would like to
cross stitch. You can support Small Paws Rescue and have fun at the
same time. 100% of the proceeds will go to SPR.

This would make a great gift for someone you know that likes to cross
stitch. You can buy the pattern or the pattern and the floss and give
it to them as a gift, or you can stitch it yourself first then give it
as a gift. When you are done, it can be framed or made into a pillow.
You will get a computer generated cross stitch pattern (not a kit). All
patterns are printed out for 16 count, but can be done in any size you
wish. The design is coded for DMC floss and will come on several
sheets of paper. All patterns are done in whole cross stitches.

color picture of your item. The pattern is printed in black and white
on a laser printer.

Betsy Bunny, Annie (an SPR doggie), Ding-Ding and their Mom Debra have given me permission to use their picture. Above is the digital picture of them and then how it will look after it is stitched. This pattern uses 50
colors and the finished size using 16 count canvas is 8 inches tall by

Hi Robin,
I've created a new section in our CafePress shop - The logo is different, lighter, and might appeal to more of our members.

You might want to mention it in the next newsletter you do - people getting ready for Summer events might enjoy some new logo wear.

Also, Buckwheat and Tina are featured on the first two SPR postage stamps, at just $19.99 a sheet.

Maybe it will help to raise some funds for when it's raining Bichons.

We have this from one of our members:

Subject: Treats Not Healthy
Date: 6/16/2007 6:32:38 P.M. Central Daylight Time
From: Rebecca.Woodley@verizon.net

Dear Robin,

We have been using Pup Corn (a healthy dog treat) for our dogs,
unfortunately we found that it has a high phosphorous count. My vet's
office examined the food that the prescribed and my boys treats to find
that the Pup Corn is the culprit. Pup Corn claims on their label to be a
healthy dog treat. My vets office called and was able to get the
information from the company. Now Snowball and Brady are on some expensive
meds to try to bring it down. Doc is very reasurring that they will not
have any problems and the meds will work. I just would like it if you
would please let others know that they should not feed their pets these.

Thank you,
Rebecca Woodley>

And from Jan Crowl, our Vevada Team Leader we have this tidbit! Thanks to all who participated!

Subject: Third Annual Bichon Coffee Break
Date: 6/16/2007 3:00:45 P.M. Central Daylight Time
From: jcrowl@mail2Nevada.com

We had our Bichon Coffee Break this a.m. at The District. A shopping area here in Henderson that is dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in all the stores except the restaurants. I have attached a picture that is most of the group that attended. It is very informal, everyone brings their own lawn chair, their fluffs and we gather in an area that is out of the sun, purchase our favorite morning beverage from one of the establishments and just visit. We attract a lot of attention, tell people about Small Paws and just have a good time. I set out a donation jar for Small Paws. This year we received $42. $32 in cash that I will forward on to SPR via my credit card and a $10 check which I will drop in the mail on Monday.

A good time was had by all.

Jan>

Ok. I think that's all for now. Please keep praying for Baby Laverne. This really is still touch and go. ALl My Love Robin

P.S. No news is good news from me on a Holiday weekend. If anything were to ever change and we were to actually lose someone, I would come right away and tell you. If you don't hear from me on a weekend when we have a critical fluff, no news is good news!

Always remember. God loves you more than anyone else ever has, and more than anyone else ever will. YOU are the apple of His eye!
He knew you and loved you before he knitted you together in your mother's womb.
All the days ordained for you were written in His book, before one of them came to be.
YOU are VERY special to God! Yes YOU!

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey&qusot;, I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
Godspeed Humphrey Sisco. Godspeed.
