First of all, thanks to so many of you, Angelina
from the Stockton Ca. shelter had her surgery
last Friday and she is just feeling great!
She has had several adoption inquiries and
she may have a wonderful home right there
in Stockton with a couple who has two other
Bichons!
This may be a God thing because with the
heat, we are of course not able to be flying
dogs as we normally do.
Our transportation secretary, Lynda DeHart
is about to throw up her arms when she learns
about so many of our flights being cancelled
due to the heat.
The airlines are very strict about this...and
we are all so happy that they are! They are
carrying very precious cargo and we applaud
their strict safety rules!
We just ask that if you are one of the ones
waiting for that Bichonly bundle of joy to
come to you via the airlines, try to be patient
while we get past this heat wave of the summer
of '06! We are watching temps daily, by the
hour, just for you!
Ok, here she is post-op, and her tail is
up and waggin'! (Angelina, not Lynda DeHart)
She feels so much better with those stones
out of there!

Angelina thanks you all so much! She is being
fostered with Darlena King!
Angelina isn't the only one feeling better!
Little six year old Max had liver shunt surgery
and uh-boy is he ever a live wire now!
Update! July 27, 2006
See a video of Max now! He is feeling just
great!
Max is all well now! See the movie!

Next, we did a transport this past weekend,
moving nine puppy mill Bichons out of our
Tulsa clinic, up to Evansville, Indiana,
where Dave Hagadorn met our Ohio Team Leaders,
Linda Fausey and Sharon King.
The Bichons were then driven by Sharon and
Linda to nine waiting foster homes throughout
Ky. and Ohio.
I know Dave, Linda and Sharon all got home
well after midnight, after driving all day
from early morning. Bless all of their hearts
and the hearts of the dozens of you who drive
these Bichons to waiting foster homes, and
give up their weekends to do it. We can never
thank you all enough!
Next, remember the Southern Comfort Maltese rescue folks from the great state of Tennessee,
that we helped a few months ago?
In Cartersville Ga., A SHELTER of all places
was auctioning dogs off that had come from
a puppy mill where the owner had died, and
most of them were just in terrible shape.
There were many Maltese.
Puppy millers were bidding against the rescuers
and were just furious that rescue was getting
these Maltese and were going to have them
spayed and neutered when THEY could have
"made 'em some money offa these dogs.
cause that's what their deceased friend woulda
wanted.", and no I am not kidding.:(
The day before the auction, these rescue
folks wrote to me to ask for some advice
about bidding at dog auctions. I asked them
how much money they had raised and they were
so proud to have told me that they had raised
a whopping $500.00!
I didn't have the heart to tell them that
they were in deep trouble with that small
amount of money.
Instead, we brought their plight to you,
and asked you to forward it to all of the
maltese lovers that you knew. Many of you
with Maltese came through and they were able
to save many Maltese that day from a fate
worse than death...another puppy mill.
Well, Mel has asked me to share this with
you all! WTG Southern Comfort Maltese Rescue!
Way to Go!!!!!!!!

Was very dismayed to see the grand opening
flyer for Petland. I am writing to ask you
where the pure bred puppies come from that
you sell?
In the past year I have become very aware
of puppy mills and the horrible and cruel
treatment of dogs in these places. Dogs with
splayed feet from being in cages for literally
years at a time, rotten teeth, fur so matted
it has become a hard shell. The mistreatments
go on and on.
For every breed there are rescue sites online.
Some have over 100 dogs that have been rescued
from puppy mills. Purebred dogs. When breeders
are finished with some of their dogs they
are sold at auctions only to be picked up
and bred again to literal death.
I feel that stores like yours only support
puppy mills. Please, check out some of the
rescue sites, look at the conditions breeding
dogs are in. They are truly horrible.
Puppy mills are under the restrictions, such
as they are, of the Dept. of Agriculture.
Dogs are considered livestock. Most don't
even get the amenities cattle receive. Policing
of these places is hard as they are often
hidden away in clean looking barns. Cages
stacked 2 high with these dogs never getting
out to move around. When one is adopted from
a rescue group they can only go into homes
where there is another dog so they can be
socialized. They shun at the hand that tries
to pet them. All they have known is cruelty,
never having had the chance to be petted
or spoken kindly to.
I am one voice but I speak from the heart
for many. Please reconsider selling pure
bred dogs in your stores. Stop helping support
puppy mills.

Hello Auntie Robin and Bonnie ,
I just got back from my dogtor and she said
I couldn't hear . Thats ok , at least I don't
have to hear the dog sucker thing going .
Dad said that I have a " hearing ear
dog " All my brothers and sisters that
is . My Dogtor told Mom that the reason I
don't hear well is possibly due to ear infections
in the past ; but right now my ears are good
and not infected . I've gained a pound since
the last time there and looking very pretty
.
My new job here is offical bed-weight for
Dad and head warmer . I cuddle close to Mom
to at night. I just love being close to thier
faces . I play and play on the bed , it's
so fun !!
My dear Aunties I'm so happy that the Watcher
of us all told you to send me to my Mom and
Dad . I live where I'm loved , played with
and laughed with . I'm clean , dry and have
plently of good food and treats . I get my
belly rubbed whenever I want it . Dad doesn't
mind when I smack him ( actually I'm petting
HIM )
All of us foster kids are truely lucky ,
we get to know love and be loved. Some of
us are still too frightened and un certain
of what this wonderful thing called "
home " , " family " and bestest
of all " loved and safe " Tomorrow
Mom will send in my adoption fee and I will
become a " real " dog . I love
all you all and would like to come and play
with you all . Especialy if you have a great
big bed to romp in .
All my love ,
Sugar aka Sugar Pops Paula?
Ok, we are going to attempt to pay all of
our vet bills again tomorrow night! What
fun that is for us! Monday comes faster and
faster each week, it seems!
On Tuesday (I am aiming for Tuesday...wild
horses MAY stop me, but I am aiming for Tuesday...)
we are going to have some surprises for you!
I will give you one clue and then wild horse
couldn't drag the rest of it out of me. (What
is the deal this morning with wild horses???)
The clue is..."The Mad Quilter is at
it again."
We will also have some brand new EBAY items
for you to enjoy and if we are lucky, Bayn
Carlson will grace us with another song and
another story from "Bayne's Corner."
(No pressure Bayn...haha!)
Tomorrow I will be on the road all day. I'm
going to a Duncan, Oklahoma shelter after
two four year olds that the shelter has asked
us to take.
Duncan, Oklahoma is almost clean to Dallas,
but we can't find anyone who isn't working
tomorrow to help transport these boys up
to a meeting place...say..OKC? Any last minute
takers? If so, please call me on Small Paws
Mobile One...(Don't get excited. It's not
a jet, it's just the SPR cell phone!) 918-638-5854.
I may have to head from there up and over
towards the west, to Stillwater, Oklahoma,
where two more Bichons are waiting in that
shelter. If they are safe, we will let the
shelter try to place them...if not, I might
be overnighting in the backwoods of Oklahoma
tomorrow night with God only knows how many
new Bichons with the last name of Small Paws!
I go after four..I came back home with eight.
I go after 8 and come home with 12. Do you
think I have any control over this? Do you
think I could stop it if I wanted too? Evidently
not....All My Love, Robin

Hi Vickie:
You were so kind to write to me when Girlfriend
was lost and I wanted to give you my good
news. Girlfriend dug out on May 3. I live in the country. Many acreages and
lots of coyotes, snakes, etc. Also new construction
everywhere. On Wednesday July 5, I read an ad in the
found animal column in our newspaper. The description did not really fit Girlfriend
except for the word "adorable".
Girlfriend is not very pretty, but she is
so very sweet. I called and I asked the lady
the question, do you mean pretty or just
wonderful. She meant just wonderful. She
had found this she thought puppy on June
15, one mile south of where I live. She was
totally matted, full of stickers, etc. She
was in a new construction area. Anyway, this
was Girlfriend. I have no idea how she survived
for a month and a half before she was found. I am so grateful for everyones prayers as
I know this is the reason she was found.
When she first came home, she acted like
she did not remember her name or her Mom
and brother, etc. However, she is now back
to her old naughty self. The ad read: Found
F Puppy 8 months ? 12 lbs. Yorkie mix. Adorable.
Call to identify. Girlfriend is 2 yrs old.
Her mother is Maltese and Dad some sort of
Terrier ?????. I just know that God led me
to read this and the lady to list it, etc.
Sorry to be so long winded, but I am so happy
and wanted to share this with you and Robin.
Thanks for all your concerns and prayers.

Dear Robin,
Please put out a prayer request on the SPR
list. Mike and I just heard some devastating
news. His cousin's sister-in-law, who just
gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named
Jake, has stomach cancer.
Her name is Melissa. She has been trying
to get pregnant for more than 10 years. She
finally did after her 5th in-vitro procedure.
The doctors thought she was going to have
a large baby, but when they did the C-section
on Friday, the baby weighed just six pounds.
He was surrounded by sacks of cancer. The
docs think that her tumor burst because she
had been having sharp stomach pains a few
weeks prior to Jake's birth.
Melissa and her husband Matt have been through
so much trying to have this baby. They were
high school sweethearts who married right
after college. What is also devastating is
that Melissa's mom died when she was two
years old - of ovarian cancer.
Melissa will be operated on this Tuesday
at a hospital in Syracuse, NY (50 miles from
her home). They will open her up to see to
what extent the cancer has spread. Thankfully,
it has not reached her bones. We don't know
if it is ovarian cancer at this time. They
plan to start chemo, but she will be too
sick to even care for her precious baby.
As far as we know, the baby is fine, thank
God.
Please....we need prayers at this time for
this young couple and their miracle baby.
This is just not fair. Thanks for any help
you can give.
God Bless,
Roe >

The beginning of July, I received this notice
about Rusty being lost. I felt so sorry for
the owner so wrote him this week to see if
he had gotten Rusty back. Sadly, Rusty has
not been found. Can we send out a Mighty
Prayer Warrior request that Rusty will be
found. Jim, the owner, is so distraught over
his beloved Rusty getting out and now lost.
Thanks, Lori Foster
Here is what he wrote:
Rusty is a 13 year old Irish setter with
white face, balding back, tail, and arthritis.
I live by myself and have had him since he
was a pup, He is deathly afraid of storms.
July 5th of this year I put him in his new
backyard, fenced, I just moved from Horn
Lake, ms, to Olive branch, about 15 miles
away. I drove back to Horn lake for a doctors
appointment. While I was gone and unbeknownst
to me, a terrible storm came up, his scratchmarks
are on a gate that I knew had a little play
and had propped a chair against. He doesn't
know the neighborhood, the collar info is
for old place. no one has seen him. I have
put up posters and advertised in paper with
$300 reward, I paid PETFINDERS to telephone
canvass a 20 block area. neighbors, groomers,
vets, dog pounds humane societies. All been
contacted from Desoto county to Memphis and
Germantown Tn. Posters and neighbors at old
house as well been notified. People have
walked door to door asking about him. No
one has seen him, no one knows anything.
He was all I had left out of life, and I
let him down..don't know what else to say.
Lori, you are very kind. Only an old dog,
there are much worse tragedies in life, Everything
I ever prayed about went bad anyway, but
since it seems effective for you, just pray
for Rustys health and happiness. That's all
that matters anymore. I realize how I sound.
I could never make anyone understand what
he meant to me. Maybe God took him cause
I loved him too much. This is not your burden,
it is mine, but I thank you, For caring about
Rusty. ..Jim

No matter what you have done, or where you
