First of all, Baby Roxy came through her
surgery with flying colors and is now re-couperating
with Small Pawser, Lee Farrow, in Colorado!

Baby Roxy had TWO ectopic ureters.
They have now been surgically repaired!
Thank you all so much!
Next, we have an urgent emergency and are
trying to save the life of one of our rescued
Bichons.
We told you about Rita and My Girl, a couple
of weeks ago. They are a 12 year old pair
of Bichons that were owner surrenders.

My Girl is still smiling. She's not ready
to give up yet!
My Girl came in with several things wrong.
She had very bad teeth, and a heart murmur.
But before either of those things could be
addressed, they discovered a mass of some
sort on her larynx.
They have been treating her with antibiotics
and anti-inflamitories but folks, we are
going to need to do something here.
The vet tried to aspirate the mass and he
was not successful. It COULD be something
as simple as an abscess (an infection), or
it could be cancer.
We don't put a Bichon down because they MIGHT
have cancer. After all, there is chance this
is an infection or a benign mass that could
be removed. The vet does NOT feel it is time
to put this girl to sleep, yet.
This is what we need to do for My Girl or
she is going to begin to choke to death and
we won't let any of our Bichons go that way,
This is urgent. The foster Mom, Denise, asked
me to please relay to you how urgent this
is.

$400. ultrasound alone
$614 .ultrasound + aspiration and in house

$702. ultrasound + aspiration and outside

maybe a little extra for sedation
$120 repeat bloodwork if needed
Thats w/o discount. She said it was up to
the doctor. I will to ask Dr Hirsh to write
a referral letter.
So lets say $820.
Please stress the urgency. I can get her
in Wednesday.>
From Joanne Rause,
Robin,
I just spoke to Dr Hirsch 703-969-6429 about
the mass in My Girl's larynx. She tried to
aspirate it but missed the area because My
Girl was uncooperative. She has placed the
dog on two antibiotics and low dose steroids.
She found a high white blood count which
could indicate abscess but she cannot rule
out cancer. The next step would be to order
an ultrasound and try to get another aspiration.
Her main objective is to keep the mass from
growing any larger because it will close
off her ability to breathe.>
Yes, I know My Girl's a senior.
Yes, I know this is a lot of money to spend
on a dog.
But I also know what you, as an organization,
want to support. You want us to take care
of the old and the sick. To give them a home
until God takes over.
What would we be teaching our young people
if we told them to throw the old away just
because they are old?
One day, God willing and the creek don't
rise, we may just wake up old, with a growth
that needs medical attention.
In January, we paid $23, 119. 55 in vet bills.
Last night we paid $6268.40 for one week's
worth of vet bills.

"Trouble In Paradise"
The second Book in the Cassie Grimes Mystery
Series with a special acknowledgement to
Small Paws Rescue!
In the book, under "Author's Notes &
Acknowledgements", this paragraph appears:
A special thanks to Small Paws Rescue for
their tireless devotion to rescuing Bichons
from the most unspeakable circumstances.
Robin Pressnall and her army of foster parents,
volunteers and supporters are amazingly generous
with their time and money on behalf of some
of the most loving and trusting creatures
on earth. They are the embodiment of the
idea of "walking the walk."
Her business is in a lull, her husband’s
lost his job and her best friend is so depressed
she’s talking about suicide. Cassie Grimes
is sure that things can only get better as
she loads her dogs in the car and heads for
Florida to work things out.
Fat chance. Nothing’s ever that simple for
this dog-loving woman who seems to be a crap
magnet. Shortly after arriving at the condo
she’ll soon be forced to sell in the name
of solvency, her wealthy best friend is arrested
for the disappearance of her much older husband.
What’s a woman to do? Jump into the middle
of things, naturally. With the help of her
Bichons, Maggie and A.J., her disgruntled
hubby and a couple of gun-toting geriatric
party girls, Cassie can’t resist being an
amateur detective. She’s not making any friends
in the local police department because she
keeps turning up in the middle of crime scenes.
While trying to help her trophy-wife friend,
Cassie uncovers a web of fraud, murder and
extortion that have the bad guys trying to
beat her up or blow her up or just plain
shoot her. It gets so bad that Gene even
suggests she hire her former boyfriend as
extra security. Yikes.
What Cassie goes through in the name of friendship
will keep you on the edge of your seat. That
is, of course, if you don’t fall off it while
laughing out loud. Once again, Pearson proves
that everyday life can be not only exciting,
but hilarious.
Of course, they are signed from Maggie and
A.J. to the buyer's pooch, so please put
your fluff's name(s) in the Comments section
of the order form!

Your photo.
Your picture turned into a pattern for you
to cross stitch!
(Betsy Bunny, Annie (an SPR doggie), Ding-Ding
and their Mom Debra have given me permission
to use their picture.)
Do you or someone you know like to cross
stitch? If so,this item might
be just the thing for you. Have your favorite
photos converted into a
pattern that you can cross stitch. It can
be a picture of your dog,
cat, child or anything you have a picture
of that you would like to
cross stitch. You can support Small Paws
Rescue and have fun at the
same time. 100% of the proceeds will go to
SPR.
>
This would make a great gift for someone
you know that likes to cross
stitch. You can buy the pattern or the pattern
and the floss and give
it to them as a gift, or you can stitch it
yourself first then give it
as a gift. When you are done, it can be framed
or made into a pillow.
You will get a computer generated cross stitch
pattern (not a kit). All
patterns are printed out for 16 count, but
can be done in any size you
wish. The design is coded for DMC floss and
will come on several
sheets of paper. All patterns are done in
whole cross stitches.
Included with the pattern is an easy to read
symbol key guide and a
color picture of your item. The pattern is
printed in black and white
on a laser printer.
Betsy Bunny, Annie (an SPR doggie), Ding-Ding
and their Mom Debra have given me permission
to use their picture. Above is the digital
picture of them and then how it will look
after it is stitched. This pattern uses 50
colors and the finished size using 16 count
canvas is 8 inches tall by
12 inches wide.
Remember 100% of the sale will go to Small
Paws Rescue!
This can be yours for $15.99 includes shipping.

when it's raining Bichons.
Diana
I'll try to get out another "Happy Adoption
Stories and Pics" newsletter as soon
as I can. Right now, we need to focus on
raising some funds for My Girl.
Bichons are one of the longest lived breeds.
My Girl could live to age 16-18 and we have
seen a Bichon live to age 22, and no I am
not kidding. Yes she was blind and deaf but
she was not ill, and she still enjoyed being
held and loved by her Dads. God rest your little soul, Gramm Starr, Grand
Dame of the AOL Bichon Parade.
We also have 11 Bichons coming in from the
commercial kennels this week, in addition
to 4 that came into SPR over the weekend.
That makes 15 more commercial kennel Bichons
this week, with the new name of Small Paws.
I'll tell you about their needs later on
this week. Right now, and yes, this is urgent,
My Girl needs us. Her Foster Mom, Denise,
needs us. I am praying we are going to be
there for them both. All My Love, Robin

I am requesting prayers for my sister's dog
Ozzie. Ozzie is a mixed breed that she adopted
from a New York rescue group. He is only
5 years old but was diagnosed with cancer.
Without chemo he would live 6-8 weeks. My
sister has started the chemo. He gets a treatment
once a week for 25 weeks and still has only
one year to 18 months to live. She is devastated.
We are praying for remission of the cancer
but are also concerned for his quality of
life for his remaining time.
Thank you, Donna?

Hi Robin, I was hoping you could ask everyone
to pray for my brother Joey? He has Downs
Syndrome is 58 years old and has lived with
me for 16 years now. Friday morning at 6:00AM
he was up and well and then at 9:15AM I went
into his room to find him on the floor and
in a puddle of blood around his head area.
He could not get up! I called the ambulance
and off to the hospital we went. Well, many,
many mistakes were made but that is another
story for later. After taking from Shirley
Maclaine's character in Terms of Endearment
this afternoon at 4:15PM and Demanding Someone
from administration, a social worker, a Neurosurgeon
and an orthopedic specialist or the News
papers and TV News Stations were being called
all of a sudden the MRI report from 24 hours
before showed up with catastrophic spinal
cord injury. Joey has bilateral upper extremity
paralyzes. He was rushed into surgery and
had extensive surgery done. He is in ICU
now and will be there for at least 6-7 days.
He still has all his paralyzes and only God
through prayer and time will tell if he will
regain any of his losses? Please, Robin would
you ask everyone to pray for my little man
Joey? Please ask God to do what is best for
my little sweet man? Thank You, Robin and
Thank You to all that pray for him. Rita
