If you want to adopt a puppy, we do save all puppies that we get into rescue for people who are grieving the loss of a beloved pet or of a person in their life. We believe that these babies can be heart healers for broken hearts! If you are in this catagory, on our application Small Paws® Rescue Online Adoption Application where it asks for the name of the dog you want to adopt, please instead write the word "GRIEVER", so that we may know you are grieving. We can't promise puppies to everyone because we don't always have puppies in rescue. If you think that you may want to apply to adopt one of our Bichons that have been rescued from a commercial kennel, they do need to go to an adult home with at least one other dog in residence. There are several reasons for this. These Bichons have not had much human contact...they have lived in small cages with wire floors and were used for one reason...for breeding and making money for the "dog farmer" (Yes, that's what they really call themselves) who owned them. These mill rescues aren't used to being around children who make sudden sounds and movements as they go about playing. Please don't ask us to forgo this rule. We have this rule for the protection of your children, grandchildren and for the Bichons. If we don't KNOW that a Bichon we have is safe with children, we don't want to take a chance with your little one's precious face.:) The reason these Bichons need at least one other dog in residence is that your dog will teach these babies to trust, to go OUTSIDE, and to take treats from your hands! We learned early on that when we placed these dogs in homes without another dog, they came back to us over 95% of the time. If you would like to apply to adopt one of these very special Bichons, you might take a look at this. It tells about working with these rescues, about house-training them and socializing them. Rehab If you still want to apply to adopt a puppy mill rescued Bichon, (if we haven't scared you off yet...HAHA!) this is an online application!
