Baby Roxy is available for adoption! You do not have to be a griever to apply to adopt little Roxy!

Fill out an online adoption application!

Roxy is an adorable female bichon puppy of 4 months. Her DOB is 10/11/2006. She came into the Small Paws family with ectopic ureters, meaning her urine was not going into her bladder as it should have. She has had surgery to correct this problem and has completely recovered. Her bladder is gradually stretching to hold more urine. She is starting a new medication to improve the slight leaking she is still having. It only has to be given once a week. For the time being, she is wearing diapers to protect the furniture and carpet.

As of the end of February, she is weighing close to 8 lbs. She loves everybody, big dogs, little dogs, kitties, men, women and children. She would probably be best with children 8 yrs and over. She sleeps in her little bed or in the foster parents' bed. Roxy would do best with another dog in the home for companionship or an owner that is home much of the time. Roxy is being happily fostered in Colorado.

Adoption information is posted below. Turn up your speakers!
We have music for you!

If you missed our last newsletter, here it is. http://www.smallpawsrescue.org/pup3/feb2307.html

If you are missing some of our newsletters,
this link has directions about how to fix this problem, hopefully!

First of all, all sorts of people, our MI. SPR Team Leader, neighbors, golfers, animal control and the sheriff are all in hot pursuit of our little Orphan Annie in Rotunda West, Florida.

It's a retirement community in the round, laid out like a wagon wheel.

The last we heard an alligator was hissing at our Bichon and at the neighbors trying to rescue her.

Folks, I think God may have very well SENT that alligator and this is why. After it hissed at Annie, she ran back up through the side yard of the house and went flying down the street. This is a residential neighborhood and not a busy street.

BECAUSE the alligator was hissing at them, and because we called the sheriff and animal control to come and protect them from the alligator, the professionals are all now out there and may assist in our search!

Now think about it. God COULD use an alligator to help us to find Annie. I often said if God can use me, He can use ANYBODY!

Vickie has rented a golf cart is is plowing full steam ahead up and down that golf course and the street in front of it. She has with her a blanket to throw in Annie if need be, and treats to try to get her to come to her.

Folks, Vicki Nixon is one in a million. She is young and can run like the wind. Yes, SHE IS A RUNNER! Why do ya think we sent HER down there?! HA!

As soon as we know we have said Bichon in custody, you will be the first to know!

Ok, do you have your breath yet?

Thanks to all of you, little Bravo had his hip surgery on Friday, in OKC! He is just doing great! Wanna SEEE?

This is Bob Shearer, Patty Shearer's husband, giving Small Pawser, Sheri Magil, a smooch on the cheek as she picked little Bravo up for foster care. Many thanks to Small Pawsers Don Rorschach, Debbie Snider, Barbe Von Netzer, Linda Evans, and Bob and Patty Shearer, who helped drive to either get Bravo to OKC or to get him back down to Texas! They are all under the direction of our North Texas Team Leaders, Vicki Furstenburg and Marilyn Brewster!
By the way, Sheri is near Corpus Christi, not near Dallas, as I told you last week! (Hey! Just call me The Geography Queen!)
It was a ways further, but our folks shared the drive and got him on down to Sheri, after surgery to repair that hip that was injured when he was hit by a car, two weeks ago, tomorrow!

From: luvbirds@cableone.net

Patty,

Here he is playing with a toy in Small Pawser, Sherri Magil's foster home!

Bravo is safe in Ingleside. He wanted to sleep out of the sun on the way back. He went to the passenger seat & snoozed. At one point he was belly up!! He has gone tinckles hoping around on three legs at one point and on his fixed leg at other points. He has drank lots of water & eaten before getting a nap. I have read the Vet notes & will put warm compresses on & excercise his leg twice a day. He does look good in his new collar and he does like his new blanket & toy. thanks to you and your funny husband for making this plan come together. Thank anyone I may have missed. I will email in another week to keep you updated.

Luv,Sheri>

And we have this update on little Daisy in North Carolina. She is another puppy with an ectopic ureter. We did the testing and got this from her foster mom!
Subj: Re: DAISY - Radiology Report
Date: 2/23/2007 1:45:07 PM Central Standard Time
From: skkeene@bellsouth.net

The radiology reports are inconclusive so my vet will have to repeat the IVP, this time with a catheter inserted, which will mean some anesthesia (because Daisy is the Princess Wiggle Worm). The radiologist thought that he may have seen a pelvic bladder, in addition to an ectopic ureter, which would mean a separate surgery to resolve. I think my vet may not have done the procedure properly, as she is redoing it at no additional expense. She said that she thinks it is significant that Daisy sometimes does squat and pee and doesn't leak all the time. But we still will have to wait to next Wed or Thurs to get the results. The IVP will be repeated on Tuesday. In the meantime, Daisy and Corky are having a ball chasing each other and wrestling. >

Ok, we're going to be sharing some happy adoption stories with you this morning!

This is the work that all of you have supported!

If you are a foster Mom or Dad, if you have prayed, if you've donated, if you've driven, if you've helped set up a booth at a pat fair, YOU have a huge part in each of these amazing heart warming stories!

I believe with all of my heart that this is what God had in mind for His precious Bichons, for them to give and receive love with His human children. Enjoy!

From Gale Renner, Hiwasse, Arkansaw, at 68lemans@cox.net

Subject: Hello from Sugar

Jody:

Sugar and I are quite happy to learn that Brett Farve is returning for at least one more year with the Packers. There are a few more records I would like to see him break before he really retires from football. He has been such an institution for NFL football and the city of Green Bay I would like to see his name appear at the top of all passing records. Move over Marino! How I would love to see him play in person before he finally retires.

Sugar sends his love. It is hard to realize that on the 15th of this month he will have been a member of the Roadcap household for a year. He has been such a joy. I just can't understand for the life of me how anyone could have given him up for adoption; he is such a sweet loving fluff. But to say the least, it was our gain and their loss when they surrendered him to Small Paws and we became his forever parents. Your efforts and time in providing him with a good foster home until we could adopt him is most appreciated.

Suagr and Kasey Leigh get along just wonderfully and they very much enjoy their Bichon Blitzes at least twice a day. They regularly engage is spirited wrestling matches and love to chase each other around the family room and around our back yard. It is a hoot to watch them engage in a game of tug over one of their many toys. One will snatch a toy and then the other will give chase. When the toy is dropped, the other snatches it and runs away only to be chased by the other where they engage in a lively game of tug. I only wish I had half the energy and zeal they have.

Winter was late in coming to Virginia this year. December and the first half of January were down right balmy. Good for the heating bill but hard on our flowers and trees. But boy, it is here now! We finally got a sizable snow with more expected early next week with temperatures to match. Now, I know we don't have the winters you have but when we have overnight temperatures in the single digits and day time highs that don't get out of the twenties, it is down right cold for us. One thing I noticed with Sugar is that though he doesn't seem to be a big friend of grass (he will go out of his way in his daily walks to avoid walking in the grass and would much rather stick to the sidewalks or street surface), he seems to love the snow. Figure that out!

Sugar has become a favorite of our pet groomer. Every time we take him in for his regular grooming she greets him by calling him her "handsome little devil". She always makes sure she grooms Sugar and not one of the other in house groomers. She has gone as far as stating that except for his underbite, he would have made a good show dog; that he has the perfect eyes, build and a thick coat of fur that holds its cut and shows very well.

Well, I have to go now so please give our greetings to your husband and your fluffs; and please stay in touch.

Steve and Denise Roadcap; and Kasey Leigh, Sugar Bear
and Gus (the "Wonder Cat" - We wonder how he
puts up with the antics of Kasey and Sugar)>

Subject: Re: SPR Corey

Corey is doing great! He is happy and healthy. He has made himself at home and he fits right in! He loves to snuggle and likes the new king sized Tempurpedic bed we bought to accommodate the two Bichon bed hogs! He likes to sleep on the Tempurpedic pillow next to my pillow. He still has an accident every once in awhile but its usually when I am just not paying attention. He's getting the hang of it though. He loves to go in the car and even went with us to a superbowl party last Sunday. He and Garcon had a blast playing with our neighbors two Westies. He is still a little shy around strangers but it only lasts a few minutes. He went to the groomer with Garcon and they both came back very happy and handsome. Corey has helped Garcon to not be afraid of the groomer and not to pout about it when we get home! Here is a picture of Corey that I took when he got back from the groomer. He is resting after running around outside, its hard to take a picture because he's usually on the move! Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to adopt Corey. I can't say enough good things about the Small Paws Rescue. Thank you for everything that you do, Andrea >

Hi Shirley,

Bella is such a joy. She's growing up into such a sweet little girl with quite a distinctive personality. She gets along
very well with our other "girls" Bitsie (spr) and Bianca. One of their favorite things to do is blitz thro' the house and
out the doggie door full speed around the back yard and repeat it all over again! I've seen her play so hard that she
literally plays until she drops. When she had her little surgery (spaying) she was a very unhappy little girl and didn't move
around much for about two days. Of course we pampered her and she was fine by the end of that week. Since she's such
a tiny little fluff she can't get up on the furniture so we bought her those little doggie steps, now she can take a nap on the
sofa quilts with the others! As I type this the three of them are napping on the sofa nestled among the quilts and pillows they
look so comfy I'd like to join them!

Our thanks to everyone at Small Paws for this opportunity to give a forever home to our Bella!

Robin,

First of all, I want to tell you how happy I am that God answered your prayers and took the cancer away from Spunkey Monkey. If anyone deserved a miracle, you did. God is indeed good!

I also want to tell you that I adopted an SPR 7 1/2 y/o fluff last week. We picked her up from the airport Saturday, Feb. 10 in the evening. I am sending you a copy of a thank you note I sent to Bonnie and Vicki for taking care of the adoption for me. You have such wonderful people working with you and I am grateful for all they did for me.

I bought a six month old puppy right before Bob passed away and I decided that she was getting bored and needed a friend. She will be one year old on March 12. I know after Vanna gets acquainted and feels safe here, that she and Mandy will be great friends.

These pups are going to be so much company for me.

Love, Joan Hayes

Subject: Thanks for Vanna

Bonnie and Vicki,

Well ladies, it's been a week already and I want to thank you both for all you did to help with the adoption process and getting Vanna here to me. I know how hard you both work on these things to make everything go smoothly. Vanna is a little sweetheart. She is still leary of me and stays safely away but does watch me closely. I hope she will feel safe enough to start moving around the house soon. Right now she stays in her "safe" little place as long as I am in sight. When I go in to shower or if I go downstairs to use the computer, she will get up and about and I can hear both dogs romping around. As soon as I appear, she retreats. I try to pretty much ignore her and they told me not to make eye contact so it will take time, as Mary Ellen told me.

Vicki, the pick up at the airport couldn't have been easier (once I got driven to the Airport). Pat dropped me off at the AA incoming flights door and I just stepped inside and there I was at the area where they brought the dogs. There was a small office there where I went in to sign for her and then we were off for home. Her flight was a little late but that gave us a chance to look around the airport and stop at a pub for a beer and nachos. (like a celebration) I bought myself a pretty Starbucks mug at their shop as a reminder of Vanna's arrival.

I couldn't believe how good Vanna was on the car ride home. I held her and poor little thing was as still as could be. She was probably scared to death but she wasn't shaking or making any noise. Needless to say, Mandy was so excited to see a furry friend arrive at her own house! Of course she wanted to play but after she found that didn't work, she has been gentle with Vanna. She has been good for Vanna and I think Vanna has been very good for Mandy. I'm sure by summer, they will be best of buddies.

Vanna goes down the deck steps to the yard with Mandy to go potty. She runs all around the yard and seems to feel right at home out there. They both come in together without being called.

I feel sure now that I made the right decision in adopting a rescued fluff. I just feel so sorry for all she has been through and now she has to make another adjustment. If only she could understand English when I tell her this is her last move and she is now in a forever home.

Thanks so much to both of you.

Joan Hayes>

Subject: Boris Gudinov formerly known as Louis Gudinov

Hi Melissa:

Boris is settling in extremely well. He has a habit of taking every single toy out of the toy bed and putting them in different rooms. He also will get on my bed during the day and rummage around Bills night stand and mine and take things like eye glasses, cuticle cream, spoons, and thing that is not tied down back to his bed.
He also likes to take shoes, clothing, bras, socks, belts and pile them on the floor so he can sleep on top.
(Maybe the name Louis Vuitton was appropriate) but then again, Boris Gudinov was a Tzar. He responds to his
name, does not have a mean bone in his body, does the bichon blitz with regularity, and can moon walk and do the bichon wave at the same time.

He is starting to bond with Norma, my Shi Tzu, she exhibits the quiet jealousy - you know that look of the big soulful eyes. But to be fair, she is showing Boris the ropes and sharing with him her toys. She and Carmen (the yorkie) have a problem understanding why he has this need to actually pickup their food dishes while their eating , walk away with them in his mouth and then stack them next to his. It's really funny - but of course we don't laugh and look at the same time.

Hopefully, he will start CGC (canine good citizenship) classes next week with other puppies. At this point he has no idea of what cement or snow is, not a clue. But, we're leaving for the country today. Even though we still have a lot of snow maybe I can find a patch of green. He has been using the wee pads moooost of the time, really mostly hit or miss - but we'll get their. The weather will break starting in March, and then the outdoor work will really begin. He loves walking on a leash, doesn't seem to be bothered by the noises of NYC, likes to explore everything where you get to the point of saying okay Boris time to go. We've walked him for an hour and no luck with the pottying. I really feel that that the city and surfaces and throwing him off.

He's a wonderful fluff that if filled with curiosity, love, kindness and a great spirit.

So, Melissa - you and your husband can be proud of your little fluff Max for showing Boris the early ropes of what the good life good be like in a FOREVER HOME.

And, to you Bonnie, a big thank you for you directness, patience and the work of the wonderful organization of
Small Paws Rescue.

Fondly,

Deborah Berger & Boris Gudinov>

<Subj: A SPR Story
Date: 2/25/2007 8:53:00 PM Central Standard Time
From: cm.stowe@charter.net

Almost 2 1/2 years ago, we attended the OK SPR picnic and brought home Ft. Pierce Frannie and her 4 babies that were born during the picnic! You may remember the litter that gave us all sarcoptic mange! Oh, that was fun. I had 10 dogs with mange over Christmas! But that is another story!

One of the little girls was finally adopted right near where I live by a single mom with a teenage daughter with cystic fibrosis. I later learned that this girl was a twin whose sister died at 3 years of age from cystic fibrosis. They had lost another pup that had been family, so they adopted Aline, one of our puppies. Well, in the more than 2 years since the adoption, this teenage girl has gotten extremely ill with her disease. A double lung transplant appeared to be her only hope. She has been housebound for most of the last year, and Ali has been her constant companion. She was put into the hospital several weeks ago in crisis. An organ donor was found, and an emergency double lung transplant was performed at 3:00 AM on Valentine's Day. She has done wonderfuly since then and has finally been removed from ICU. Well, an aunt who was tending Ali during their absence smuggled Ali into the hospital this weekend for both Ali and her girl's sake. I am told that after much tail-wagging, kissing, and greeting, both girl and her dog finally settled down and fell asleep together on her hospital bed. Oh, the healing power of the many SPR missionaries out there, the four-footed ones, I mean.

I wanted you to hear another success story of one of your babies.

I trust Spunky Monkey is doing well, and you are, too.

Carol M. Stowe
aka Mom, Grandma, Whitedoglady>

We hope you have enjoyed these happy adoption stories! And, we saved you from having to work out today. You all probably got your cardiac excersize by reading about Annie and the alligator, down in Florida! I know I did!

Let me call Vickie and see if I can get an update. Hold on.

Ok, she was whispering to me on the phone since she is out on the golf course. A lady named "Lynn" one of the residents there is driving them around in a golf cart, looking. They are headed back up to the street now.

We know Annie is alive and that she is OUT THERE in the area and that we are determined to reclaim her and bring her back home to Michigan to her Foster Mama who is going to adopt her!

If these happy adoption stories have touched your heart, or if you would like to help us to raise the reward money for little lost, and "almost et by an alligator, Annie" this is how you can do that.

A special thanks to Small Paws Rescue for their tireless devotion to rescuing Bichons from the most unspeakable circumstances. Robin Pressnall and her army of foster parents, volunteers and supporters are amazingly generous with their time and money on behalf of some of the most loving and trusting creatures on earth. They are the embodiment of the idea of "walking the walk."

Her business is in a lull, her husband’s lost his job and her best friend is so depressed she’s talking about suicide. Cassie Grimes is sure that things can only get better as she loads her dogs in the car and heads for Florida to work things out.

Fat chance. Nothing’s ever that simple for this dog-loving woman who seems to be a crap magnet. Shortly after arriving at the condo she’ll soon be forced to sell in the name of solvency, her wealthy best friend is arrested for the disappearance of her much older husband.

What’s a woman to do? Jump into the middle of things, naturally. With the help of her Bichons, Maggie and A.J., her disgruntled hubby and a couple of gun-toting geriatric party girls, Cassie can’t resist being an amateur detective. She’s not making any friends in the local police department because she keeps turning up in the middle of crime scenes. While trying to help her trophy-wife friend, Cassie uncovers a web of fraud, murder and extortion that have the bad guys trying to beat her up or blow her up or just plain shoot her. It gets so bad that Gene even suggests she hire her former boyfriend as extra security. Yikes.

What Cassie goes through in the name of friendship will keep you on the edge of your seat. That is, of course, if you don’t fall off it while laughing out loud. Once again, Pearson proves that everyday life can be not only exciting, but hilarious.

Of course, they are signed from Maggie and A.J. to the buyer's pooch, so please put your fluff's name(s) in the Comments section of the order form!

Your photo.

Your picture turned into a pattern for you to cross stitch!
(Betsy Bunny, Annie (an SPR doggie), Ding-Ding and their Mom Debra have given me permission to use their picture.)

Do you or someone you know like to cross stitch? If so,this item might
be just the thing for you. Have your favorite photos converted into a
pattern that you can cross stitch. It can be a picture of your dog,
cat, child or anything you have a picture of that you would like to
cross stitch. You can support Small Paws Rescue and have fun at the
same time. 100% of the proceeds will go to SPR.
>
This would make a great gift for someone you know that likes to cross
stitch. You can buy the pattern or the pattern and the floss and give
it to them as a gift, or you can stitch it yourself first then give it
as a gift. When you are done, it can be framed or made into a pillow.
You will get a computer generated cross stitch pattern (not a kit). All
patterns are printed out for 16 count, but can be done in any size you
wish. The design is coded for DMC floss and will come on several
sheets of paper. All patterns are done in whole cross stitches.
Included with the pattern is an easy to read symbol key guide and a
color picture of your item. The pattern is printed in black and white
on a laser printer.

Betsy Bunny, Annie (an SPR doggie), Ding-Ding and their Mom Debra have given me permission to use their picture. Above is the digital picture of them and then how it will look after it is stitched. This pattern uses 50
colors and the finished size using 16 count canvas is 8 inches tall by
12 inches wide.

Remember 100% of the sale will go to Small Paws Rescue!
This can be yours for $15.99 includes shipping.

Hi Robin,
I've created a new section in our CafePress shop - The logo is different, lighter, and might appeal to more of our members.

You might want to mention it in the next newsletter you do - people getting ready for Summer events might enjoy some new logo wear.

Also, Buckwheat and Tina are featured on the first two SPR postage stamps, at just $19.99 a sheet.

Maybe it will help to raise some funds for when it's raining Bichons.

Diana

We have the following prayer requests. Pray people pray! All My Love, Robin

1. Please pray that they can catch Annie before an alligator does. There are a lot of men playing on the golf course and she is afraid of men she doesn't know. Of course Vicki is out there making new friends of each one of those men, passing out her card and saying, "She about 1 foot tall. 12 pounds. Blonde. VERY BLOND. Brown eyes. Poofy hair. Quiet. Doesn't talk much. Smart enough to outfox a gator. Ya can't miss her."

Robin,
Just a quick note to remind all the SPR Prayer Warriors to be praying for my neice Karma and her husband, Cal! Cal will be going to court on Tuesday & Wednesday for running a stop sign on a road he doesn't normally travel. Cal has alot to lose if convicted. He was injured an also a lady, her name is Marie. The county prosacutor is hoping to send Cal up the river! Cal is a man that works for Our Heavenly Father and we are hoping and praying and so is his church that he walks a free man this week. Please, if you could put this in the Spr newsletter so an abundance of prayers and miracles will flood the court home this Tuesday and Wednesday.

Thanks so much,
Sandy Danklefsen>

(Editors Note. Benny was not an SPR Bichon. He was placed through another rescue group. But he needs SPR prayers to help him to find his way home!)

I saw a lost ad in the paper for a puppymill bichon, Benny, who is lost. Benny is only 8 months old and was finally in his forever home and when they walked him, he got spooked and pulled out of the collar and took off. It's now been a week and they cannot find him and have not had any sightings. Benny has to be so scared and being a puppymill puppy, he won't go up to anyone. Please, Mighty SPR Prayer Warriors, pray for the safe return of little Benny so he can have a life that he so deserves. Benny was lost in the Olive Branch, MS area so could be in MS or TN since it is right at the border.
Thanks,
Lori Foster

I am coming to the wonderful prayer warriors we have here at Small Paws. My husband has been in country (Iraq) now for 5 weeks. He is working 12 to 16 hour days 7 days a week. Yep that is for the last 5 weeks he has worked 35 days with out a break. He is staying busy investigating the downing of the helicopters. As you all know from the news in the last 5 weeks there has been 5/6 go down. Today I got a email from my husband and he just sounded spent. He is missing our daughters so much. I am sure not getting a lot of rest doesn't help.

"I do miss them very much!. Can't to see them and hug them again. God I do miss them so very much. Crying just thinking about. Sorry. Just having a hard night thinking about them. Will do better in the morning. Just a bad night. Don't worry yourself. I'm hanging in there. Its hard, but I can do it."

Please pray that his and his fellow troops get a break in the action and some rest time and that they figure a way to keep the choppers safer! Also that Steven gets through this deployment and is home safe soon.

Thank you
