Gem of the Day:
Fragile Circle
"We who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than our own,
live within a fragile circle, easily and
often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still
would live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only certain immortality,
never fully understanding the necessary plan."
~Irving Townsend~
Terri and John, we are lifting you in prayer
and holding you in the palms of our hands
today. Godspeed precious little Bailey. Godspeed.

Good afternoon Robin,
I have some very sad news. It is with much
regret that I made the decision to put Bailey
to sleep today. I had him for 12 years. He
was 3 months old when I adopted him from
the pound. As you remember, he was diagnosed
with a heart murmur, cancer, and tore his
ACL last fall. I didn’t think he would make
it until New Year’s but he did. He did it
for me. He knows how hard the divorce has
been between me and John. John was with me
today and was the best dad in the world to
Bailey. Riley, aka Corolla Beach Carl, is
sad as well. When we adopted him from SP
in June 2006 we didn’t know how Bailey would
react. They ended up best friends. I would
like to ask you and our SP family to pray
for Riley, John and I. Honestly I don’t know
how I’m going to make it. I took off yesterday
to take him to the emergency vet, today and
tomorrow.
This is the saddest day of my life. My heart
hurts, my tear ducts hurt, and I don’t know
what to do with myself. I’m so depressed.
Please have the SP prayer warriors pray for
me. It hurts even to think and breathe.
Thank you, Robin.

problem, hopefully!
Ok, we have several urgent emergencies so
let me tell you about them. For those whose
paws do not type, I come to you asking for
medical help for them. Can you please help
us to help them? These are injured and very
ill Bichons. They are lucky enough to have
the new last name of Small Paws. Now, we
need to get them out of pain. We will supply
all vet contact information to anyone who
may be new and wants to confirm any of this.
We really can't do this important work without
you!

At the Irving, Texas shelter, (sound familiar? Yup.) a stray Bichon was brought in after being
HBC (hit by a car) last Tuesday.
In the mean time, we were notified of another
white fluffy dog that they had listed as
a Bichon. Come to find out he was a Shih
Tzu. We notified Lone Star Shih Tzu rescue
and were preparing to go in and spring him
for them.
Small Pawser Don Rorschach of Irving Texas,
went to spring the shih tzu on Monday morning,
and while he was there, found out about this
other baby, limping, with a dislocated hip
due to being hit by a car.
They told us his time was up and they were
going to put him down THAT MORNING and that
if we wanted him we had better take him out
NOW.
They had him listed as a poodle. We were
going to go ahead and remove him from the
shelter and try to find a poodle rescue to
take him, after he was safe from the big
E.
Well, he was matted to the skin. (The dog,
not Don. Don is actually pretty clean shaven.)
When I heard that Don had him safe in the
car with him, I wanted to shout out "Bravo!",
thus the name!

"Bravo's" hip is dislocated and
he can put no weight on that back right leg.
These pics were taken at the vet's office
where they had to shave the mats off. Underneath
was a white Bichon!
So, by trying to help to rescue a Shih Tzu
and what we thought was a Poodle, we were
able to save a Bichon!
Breed rescues out there! Work with each
other when you can! When you walk a shelter,
take note of who else is in there and get
the e-mails going to their respective breed
rescues!
Your efforts will come back to reward you
all! After all, Shih Tzus and Poodles are
people too! :)
The vet tells us that Bravo needs an FHO.
A femoral head ostomy.
We want a Board Certified Surgeon to do this
surgery, because if there are complications
later, they don't like to go back in on someone
else's work. and If there is trouble later,
you may HAVE to get a Board Certified Surgeon,
so we like to just start out with one. (These
are little things we have learned after rescuing
6000 Bichons in the last 8 1/ years. For
Orthopedic work like an FHO, start with a
Board Certified Surgeon if possible!)
We're going to ask Dr. Skip Tanger in OKC
to do this surgery. Bravo's bill from start
to finish will run about $1500.00. He is
in pain and we need to get this done as soon
as we can.
Vickie Furstenburg, Co-team Leader for Northern
Texas, and Glennda Bruce, Team Leader for
Southern Texas, are both begging for foster
homes. We are having to board our rescues
in both of these areas due to a lack of foster
homes. This is a very populous state and
yet, we are finding no room for these precious
Bichons, who have no one but us.
Bravo needs a Foster home for after his surgery.
We don't want to put him in a boarding facility!
We need you, if you have room in your heart
and home for a temporary Bichon, we need
for you to be the bridge between homelessness
and a forever home.
It is ok if you work! Hey! We all work! We
need you.
I ask you most sincerely from my heart, can
you please offer a small place in your home
for a huge white fluffy heart? The rewards
will be endless. You can do this! Small Paws
will of course pay all bills associated with
fostering.
Speaking of the Irving Tx. shelter, there are two more POODLES in there who need to be rescued as soon as possible. Every poodle rescue we have contacted so far down there, is full. If you know of any poodle rescue who would take these two, we can help to pull and possibly transport. This is a kill shelter. I would say that time is of the essence.
Then, hop on over to North Carolina with
me. We have another baby Bichon born 10/12/06,
with another suspected ectopic ureter, a birth defect where the urine is bypassing
the bladder altogether, and is spilling out
of the body uncontrollably.

Baby Daisy was born 10/12/06. She is only
four months old and needs our help.
They only do this surgery at two places in
Charlotte N.C. We had estimated $1500.00-1800.00
for this surgery but were told by the vet
who saw baby Daisy today that this estimate
was low.:(
Before we can even think of getting to her
surgery, we have to do diagnostic testing
to confirm their suspicions, and those usually
run around $700.00.
Then, if we haven't excited you enough already,
we also took in two bonded 8-year old sisters that came into
rescue on Valentine’s Day.
Now do you think they were up to date on
their vetting? Oh nooooo. Not even maybe.
One of them has teeth falling right out of
her mouth as I am typing. Sheesh and ouch.
I want to show you what we are dealing with
when it comes to vet bills, broken down for
each dog. And this vet is giving us a great
deal! Still, we will need nearly $800.00
to pay for their vetting from start to finish,
including extracting rotten teeth, that is,
the ones that haven't already fallen out.:(

Maggie and Abbie at the vet today.
Well, Robin, you hit the cost nearly exact.
Their teeth are terrible. Just like mill
dogs. Dr. scraped junks of calcium the size
of dried peas off with his fingernail.
Maggie is missing several teeth, both molars
and incisors.
Both dogs need a serious weight reduction
regime. Maggie is 16 pounds – 1 oz., and
should be about 14 max.
Poor little Abbie is 16 pounds 7 oz. And
should be about 11 pounds max.

Thank You's
Dale and I and Spunky Monkey Pressnall want
to thank the Small Paws Rescue Blanketeers for sending the following gift to Spunky
Monkey after his near miss with cancer. These
ladies are the cream of the crop! Thank you
all so much!

Spunky the Monkey Man on top of HIS binkie
that came in the mail, made specially for
him by the Blanketeers under the direction
of Diana McAnnally. He knew it was his from
the first moment he saw it. If Chipper tried
to lay on it Spunky would raise his lip as
if to say, "MINE!"

This is the fabric. It's a soft fleece.
This is the blanket that our vet tech, Kathy
Epps brought to me that dreadful Wednesday
morning when our world came crashing down.
Spunky MOnkey rode to the oncologist's office
on this, on my lap. He also rode all the
way to OKC this way, to see the surgeon.
The minute I saw this blanket I was comforted,
knowing that all of the Blanketeers were
already praying for us. We are so grateful
for the miracle that we received. After so
many of you prayed. amazingly, two well qualified
veterinary specialists were suddenly wrong
about the diagnosis of cancer. Thank you
God!
Also we want to thank Cynthia McFall and
Janet Ritenhour for the yummy doggie cookie
basket that arrived at our front door on
Saturday! We have never felt so loved and
Spunky has never been so spoiled! Thank you
all!
Oh man. We just got devastating news. This
is about Molly, an 8 year old Bichon belonging
to Glenda Bach, one of our precious Team
Leaders. Oh Glenda. I don't even know what
to say. My heart is breaking for you. This
is too close to home. It could have happened
to any one of us. We love you. We are just
so so sorry.
Hold your Bichons close to you and love them
with all that you've got. Things can change
in a split second.
Thank you so much Marti, for telling us.

Glenda called this afternoon to tell me that
her precious 8-yr old Molly crossed the bridge
around 3:30am. The vet's office was calling
her every couple of hours to give her updates.
They did everything they could for Molly,
but it was her time to leave this world.
She had an auto-immune deficiency disease
that the vet said was probably genetic, a
result of poor breeding.
Glenda and her husband are grieving their
loss in Florida with their grown children
and grandchildren. They will miss Molly.
She was a special fluff and they were blessed
to be her human parents. They will pick up
her body when they get back to Chicago and
take her to be cremated.
Please keep Glenda in your prayers as she
deals with this loss when she gets home.
There were no symptoms, no signs of illness
or disease before yesterday when they rushed
her to the emergency vet. This diagnosis
was a total surprise.

Thanks to all who prayed for my two friends.
Here are the wonderful updates:
My friend Lynn wrote: Ed went to the cardiologist
today and was told he can return back to
work on Feb 19th. I am shocked that he can
do this but she said his heart damage was
almost nothing compared to he would be dead
if he hadn't been at the hospital when this
happened. I am jumping up and down for many
reasons tonight :-) Will be nice to get back
to normal living again :-) Thanks so much
for all the support and being so helpful
with your words of encouragement . I guess
2007 isn't starting out so bad after all
is it?
And my friend Kevin wrote to tell me that
his new-born son, Emerson, is now a healthy

Dear Robin, my name is Angela Taylor (Yes,
I'm the one you called about two weeks ago
about Neige in North Carolina.) My school
and I are in major need of prayer. I am a
school teacher in Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools
and I had to face something very scary at
school this week. I teach out in a trailer
with 11 other people in trailers. Last weekend
and Monday night someone took a magnum (a
big gun) and shot bullets into our trailers
while we were not there. (Thank goodness!)
Mine was not hit, but the one directly across
from me and the one we pass by everyday to
get into the building were. The bullets actually
went thru the trailers and out the other
side. Thursday the principal put us on a
lockdown after some students reported a man
with a gun in his hand on campus. (A lockdown
means no one leaves their rooms, our doors
are locked, our lights are out, our shades
are closed and all of us huddle in the corner
of the room.) I tried to remain calm while
trying to keep 18 third graders calm. They
never caught the person. The scariest thing
is that my trailer is a quarter mile walk
from the school! (We have major construction
going on between us and the main building.)
Immediately after (with no police to guard
us.) we had to walk up to the building (all
1/4 mile!) to get to our awards assembly.
I was a nervous wreck the entire time. I
have to admit I'm afraid to go to work. I'm
afraid to work in my room at all before or
after school. Please pray that more security
will be provided and that the police will
catch the person (s) responsible. Send to
all!
In God's Mercy,
Angela Taylor>

Robin,
I just received this news from my friend
and former neighbor, Bill. His wife, Leslie,
is the kindest, most generous and cheerful
person I have ever known despite living with
crippling lupus her whole life. Please ask
the group to pray for them.
“I just realized tonight with all the stuff
that's been going on and all the stress,
that I totally let you fall through the cracks.
I am truly sorry for that. So anyway, you
ought to know that Leslie is gravely ill.
She has been in ICU for a week and went on
a ventilator last Friday. This started out
as pneumonia, and you know how susceptible
she is to that and how sick she can get so
fast. She is deeply sedated with the machine
running and they have given her several different
drugs, as well as feeding her through a tube.
The bacteria seems to be taken care of but
now the problem is with trying to bring her
back from the sedation. Her heart is having
A-fib when they try to remove the sedation
and they have to deal with that. She will
probably be on the machine for another 4
days according to what the doctor told me
this morning. We are praying for the best
over the next few days, but can do nothing
else but wait.”
We have had miracles this month. Please pray
for another one for Leslie.
Thanks,Shirley >

Hi, Its Sandy and my family is in need of
a pray request. Cal, my niece Karma's husband
was in an auto accident in which he ran a
stop sign. Both Cal and Marie (the driver
of the other vehicle) are both ok with no
permanent injuries, however, the county prosecutor
wishes to have Cal (pastor of a Methodist
Church) convicted with a 4th degree felony
assult. If this is the result, Cal will lose
his pastor license and will no longer be
able to have security clearance for his job
in the nuclear power industry. The prosecuting
attorney is unwavering in the charges and
a police report that seems to be inaccurate
in statements made by Cal. Cal's attorney
has tried to get that statement thrown out,
with no luck. So please pass along the prayer
request and help us save this family from
the unnecessary hardship.
Thanks,
