Gem of the Day: There are only two options regarding commitment. You're either in or out. There's no such thing as a life in-between.

Small Paws Bichon "Lulu" has been hit by a train and needs our help ASAP. THIS IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY.

Small Paws Rescue Information About Our Programs

Dear Small Pawsers,

This is an emergency mailing of the Small Paws Rescue Network.

One of our rescued, adopted Bichons has been hit by what the vet thinks was a train. It is little "Lulu" in Ohio.

This baby was recently adopted by an elderly couple in New London, Ohio. She got away from them last weekend, and we only learned about it today.

Well, Lulu was found today by animal control, and her rabies tags led them back to her owner. KEEP THOSE TAGS ON YOUR DOGS! IF THEY ARE LOST IT MAY BE THE ONLY WAY THEY ARE ABLE TO MAKE THEIR WAY HOME TO YOU!

Sadly, Lulu has one severly broken leg.... badly broken and...Oh God...one of her paws is missing totally...it has been severed. The other legs are missing several toes.

She needs emergency medical attention and the owners say they are not able to give her the care she needs...and they have decided to turn her back into Small Paws.

The owners couldn't even drive her to the hospital so Jen Battaglia and her husband...Jen is only about 22 months pregnant right now! (She says Weebles DO wobble and they DO fall down!) are racing now, 45 minutes away, to pick this little girl up and take her to the emergency room!

Another of our Ohio volunteers, Linda Fausey, is racing to the owner's home to get the owner surrender form signed so that we can treat this baby.

Folks, this is going to be expensive. It would be much less expensive to put this baby down. Poof...one shot and we would be done.

But...if we do that, she won't be able to give and receive love from a human being...I believe this is what we have been charged to do for her and every Bichon in our care.

The animal control vet is amazed at the good shape she is in. She isn't in shock and is eating...even with all of this severe damage. They would have euthanized her if she was not saveable.

The problem is that tissue is dying and if we are to save that leg...we will have to go in TONIGHT surgically.

We had emails into all of the animal controls in the area. They KNEW this was a Small Paws dog and that we would come in, teeth barred, hair on the back of our necks, fighting tooth and toenail for this baby with everything we have. I believe they are watching to see how a first rate breed rescue handles it when...oh say...ONE OF THEIR DOGS HAS BEEN HIT BY A TRAIN FOR GOD'S SAKE.

Folks, is that what you want us to do? Do you want us to try to save her?

If so, we need your help. No amount is too small. THIS IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY AND MUST BE HANDLED IMMEDIATELY.

Robin--
I know I don't take the time to thank you for all the hard work you do for Small Paws Rescue, but please know that all the great people involved with the organization are always on my mind (and in my prayers). That being said, I wanted to let you know that I just received the first notice from my company, SBC, that it is time to "re-up" for our United Way Contributions. Last year, I doubled the amount I contribute and designated Small Paws Rescue as the recipient. It took a little work because Small Paws was not yet listed in our choices.
Please, in your next email, ask everyone who already contributes to United Way to direct some (or all) to Small Paws. The information needed is on your website. If each of the 5,000 volunteers only designated $5 per month, just think of the amount of money that would pour in!!!
Thank you, again, for all you do.

As soon as I know more, I will update you. No time for spell check..sorry..Love, Robin
