Gem of the Day: “The more intensely we feel about an idea or a goal, the more assuredly the idea, buried deep in our subconscious, will direct us along the path to its fulfillment.”

This is a little different kind of newsletter. Something wonderful and rather miraculous has happened and I believe it will benefit Small Paws, one way or the other!

Maybe I better 'splain, Lucy.

One of our Small Paws volunteers from Florida, Pam Lagano, at plagano@laganoassoc.com, did something last spring that made me smile a little at the time.

I NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS THOUGHT A THING IN THE WORLD WOULD EVER COME OF IT.

So imagine the shock I am in today as I sit here typing to all of you. (AND YOU ARE GOING TO BE SHOCKED AND STUNNED AS WELL WHEN YOU HEAR WHAT HAS HAPPENED.)

As most of you know, I drive a 1998 Red Volvo T-5 Wagon, named "Glory", who knows the way to every commercial kennel in Mo.

Yes, she has a personality. She also has 141,000 miles on her and she is becoming increasingly expensive to keep healthy and running.

I have to have a dependable car. I can't be stranded out in God-only-knows-where with a car full of rescued Bichons who have been living in God-only-knows-what conditions, in the heat, cold, and sometimes ice, that we have here in Oklahoma, Mo., Ar., Ks., and Tx.

I love my little Volvo for several reasons. One is how safe she makes me feel. She has a steel cage around her, and in case of an accident, she would protect our precious cargo in the back from being smashed. This gives me great peace of mind with each and every rescue.

I trust me driving, but I don't trust some of the other drivers out there, so I am happy to have that steel cage around us all.

Well, Pam Lagano must have believed me when I told you all to DREAM BIG.

She nominated me for the "Volvo for Life" award. This is a national award, and I was just so honored to be nominated by Pam.

NEVER IN MY WILDEST DREAMS...(And you all know I have had some wilddddd dreams!) would I have thought that this would go anywhere.

I know that many wonderful and deserving people were nominated for this prestigious award, and Volvo had the tedious task of choosing only five semi-finalists from each state. This means that 250 people across the country are now semi-finalists.

Your's Truly has, by some absolute miracle of the Lord, made it as a semifinalist as one of the top five nominations from the great state of Oklahoma.

I learned today that I am one of the semi-finalists nominees. After I picked myself up off of the floor, I learned more.

This is the way they choose the winners, (Yes, there are several awards and winners...click here for a list of the different awards they give! I am reasonably sure I'm going to get a certificate, and we will show it for the world to see on the home page, but I digress...)

This is the way it works. They let everyone's friends and families vote for them, online. This goes on through FEBRUARY.

Then, after everyone has exhausted the patience of everyone they have ever met or hope to meet, the 18 top vote winners, are then sent to a list of judges like you can't believe, including Paul Newman and Caroline Kennedy and no I am not kidding.

The only way I could possibly stay in this thing to that point, when there are so many amazing and well deserving "nobel peace prize type human beings", (See previous winners here...) is that...well...I don't know if any of them happen to know 6000 people in 20 countries on a first name basis.... :)

If I were to win the Volvo for Life, it would be the official Small Paws Rescue vehicle. Not only would we not have any more car repair expenses, but everyone in the world would then come to believe in miracles, because we will have all witnessed one, first hand.

If I won either of the cash prizes, the $50,000.00 award or the $25,000.00 award, we would purchase a Volvo for Small Paws with those funds! This would still be on the line of miracle of miracles happening and many people worldwide would be converted as believers because how else would we be able to explain that, I ask you, now?.

If I won the Volvo for Life certificate, which all of the rest of us 222 semi-finalists who didn't get enough votes would get, we can post it on our SPR home age and be proud that Pam Lagano dreamed big!

I guess this is a big enough deal that I would be interviewed by the local news folks here, which may possibly garner some more votes for the home town gal and for our magnificent obsession.

Ok, now that you have picked yourselves up off of the ground too, remembering that this will hopefully help Small Paws, may I ask you to please go and vote like there is no tomorrow??? Glory is getting tired, and is "now on her third set of tires", she explained.

VOTE HERE

I'm hoping that any rescuer or animal lover, who has ever been helped by anyone in Small Paws, may also be able to take a moment to go and vote.

I don't know for sure, but I might be the only animal rescuer up for this award. I haven't read all of the nominations, but if you want to feel really intimidated, hey, go read them!

I don't believe they have had many animal rescuers nominated, and that's probably why my name is still up there! HA!

Now you may have to wait a second as it may take a second to load. Soon you will see a map of the country. Scroll down under the map and click on Oklahoma. You will see my picture holding two small, little white furry creatures, and the wonderful nomination made by Pam. This is all very surreal to me, as I am sure you can imagine.

It's sort of like reading your own obituary, where everyone says wonderful things about you, that you never knew about when you were still alive and kickin'.

Now, people are telling me they have been able to vote twice. I don't like that myself as any one of the nominee's friends or family could sit by the computer and vote over and over again, but then again, they didn't ask me to make the rules for this deal.

I have notified the Volvo for Life people of this fact, and asked them if they intended it to be this way or did they mean it to be that each person is to have only one vote. I haven't heard back yet.

Well, now you know the surprise that I got today. WOW. This was a big one.

I love you guys and hope it is ok with you if I close with a few pictures of Glory. It's been a long, hot summer and she has been such a good girl. I know it seems odd for me to have a relationship with my car, and no, my washer and dryer don't have names.

Only my car. She brings Glory to God with each and every rescue of his precious creatures. There isn't a breed that I can think of that she hasn't transported, and she's never let me down once. Not even maybe. All My Love, Robin

Chihuahuas, Scotties, Westies and Bichons came on home on this day from Stigler, Oklahoma.
